What year? u/BrakeFastBurrito may be onto something. Another common problem is the voltage regulator connector that is by the front drive sprocket is too small and gets hot then melts and then creates a poor connection and gets even hotter. See this thread. Its easy to check the connector and see if there is melting or burn marks. It took me a few weeks to figure out the plug was my problem and not the stator or the regulator. If this is the problem be sure to get the correct terminal crimping tool or don't even try it.
