To be fair, a sea sponge is an organic item--it's an animal! As such, it will disintegrate in your shower eventually, just like any other organic item would, including, eventually, a natural brush (and just like a typical loofah definitely will NOT--since they're plastic :).

You may try a Konjac Sponge, though they're not meant to be used with soap, and they also disintegrate since they're plant matter.

Another alternative is a true loofah, though they are not particularly soft like a plastic loofah.

Or, if you really don't want to try something organic (plant or animal), you could get a recycled plastic loofah.

Do you think a konjac sponge would be comparable to a natural fiber loofah sponge like this one or is there something about the texture that is special?

I just recently realized that I actually have the plant that produces the natural fiber loofah sponges in my backyard, so I tried one out yesterday! Should I get a konjac plant too? :P

I'v used natural loofahs in the past and they are definitely great exfoliators. I've seen them pretty cheap at natural food stores and there's a 3pc set on Amazon (Add-On) for less than $8 here. :)

People do call them that sometimes, but they are more properly termed poufs or puffs, to avoid confusion with the more abrasive natural loofah. Natural loofahs are made from the luffa plant and generally look something like this, this or this (they can make them in pretty much whatever shape) and they have a coarse texture designed to exfoliate (remove dead skin cells). Bath/shower puffs/poufs/poofs (however you want to spell it) on the other hand are generally made of synthetic fibers (usually nylon) and are much softer and easier on the skin, more suited for regular washing. Bottom line, a bath puff on your vajayjay wouldn't be so bad, but a natural loofah would probably hurt.

In that case, look into a loofah. There are different varieties but that's a basic tool for exfoliating, which is getting that old, dry skin off after/during a shower.
