Great book for every skill level. Looks good on the coffee table too for ad ertising your new found interest.
Edit: boy scouts can certainly create an interest, and if you know some basic to advanced rigging, that's great. One "issue" though is the way certain knots create stress points; always makes for a weaker knot, but typically doesn't matter. On a body it matters in ways it didn't before. Point being that there are important safety considerations that are not covered in boy scouts when applying techniques to kink.
With a reputation for safety, you will likely never run out of volunteers. :)

There's a lot there. I would start by watching some YouTube videos. There are also two books you should grab

Learn the single and double column ties and a simple square knot and you can do a lot. The most important thing is learning how to tie knots that don't get tighter.
As far as rope types, I like linen jute. This stuff is really nice.

Types really come down to personal preference and purpose. Also get some medical scissors in case you need to get the rope off in a hurry.
Maybe most importantly, you need a sub who likes letting you practice. Good luck and have fun.
When you are ready to go rope, check this rope out as a good starter rope. And this book will show you the ropes when it comes to knot-tying.
These books are not great, but they have a few useful ties:

Loading them onto a tablet and paging through was good enough to learn while tying the girl.
