If you don't need speed go for something like this WD Drive. This will be the best bang for your buck if you don't mind the speeds and you can't go wrong with a WD Drive.

Yes it would work to make plotting faster on SMR type drives that are normally painfully slow like seagates. Keep in mind copying over the plot still takes considerable time, its not going to be a quick copy and paste job like everything else.

it writes incredibly fast with an SSD but a normal WD hdd will still be considerably quicker.
