Do you have any floor space in your bedroom?you could make a fully enclosed play space out of this stuff, and/or lay a cardboard floor with it so they aren't touching any of the carpet.
To minimise fights, (and because ours get slightly different diets) we got ours used to eating out of two separate bowls on different levels of the cage. To start with they would both eat out of one and then the other, we had to physically block in between them with our hands to seperate them.
