Swissgear backpacks are amazing. I have an Ibex backpack. Worth every penny. My first lasted me 4 years (I used to go through backpacks in 12 months or less). Second one has lasted me 2 years so far.

This swiss army backpack has lasted all 3 years of my college career, a study abroad, several trips and vacations, and a bike tour through Europe. I always carry my laptop and usually some pretty heavy books at it has withstood the abuse quite well.
You can get it in 15" and 17" laptop compartment sizes. I highly recommend swiss army in general. You can find them at Best Buy or maybe Target if you don't want to order online.

I own the Everki Titan, but its probably a little too big for what you are looking for. Previously I owned the Swissgear Ibex, which is a fantastic bag but it is also on the larger side.
Either bagless to avoid the line or my work backpack, sans work gear.

I use a variant of it for my own laptop - (while not a 17" beast it's going to be a lot more portable in something like that).
I'm in the same situation and one of these bags will deceivingly hold just about everything you can think of needing - and because the weight is on both shoulders it never feels too heavy.

I use this for my ~15 or so inch laptop, and tons of other stuff for work... and it is great. I'm not sure it has as much padding though, and I would ask your same question on the Amazon question and answers part just to be sure that that particular product is good for you
My own opinion -- I think it would fit fine. (Again - the Alienware looks more durable)

There are about 5 models, varying in size, and they are really well designed, and high quality.
I've had mine for almost three years now with no issues.
(I can fit my very large laptop easily in the pocket. Or 14 LPs. Or two large frozen pizzas)
I recently bought a swissgear bag for about 95 dollars at best buy for work so I could bring my personal HP 17" laptop on trips with me. I have to bring a 12-13" tablet pc and a 15" laptop with me on all trips, so the 95 dollars to be able to bring a personal machine was worth it right there. There is more than enough storage for whatever you could possible want to bring. I wouldn't check the bag though. There is enough room for the laptop, but not a ton of room for some asshole to throw the thing.

I bought a Swiss Gear for this exact purpose. Not only is it perfect for this, it is also the best daily carry backpack I have ever owned. On a daily basis, I have my MBP 13", iPad Pro 10.5", and my Fujifilm XE-3 with two lenses. Each device basically has its own zipper compartment, which is super handy. It also has various smaller compartments for small tools, cables, chargers, pens, meds, food, etc.
The camera and the lenses I keep in a much smaller Timbuk2 shoulder bag that easily slides in and out of the main compartment. (I got this bag at an REI garage sale for cheap, so I couldn't find a link for the exact one) I don't know how big your camera is but if it is a similar size to mine, you will have no problem fitting other stuff into the main compartment as well. The benefit to this smaller bag is if I want to set my backpack down and walk somewhere else with just the camera, I will have everything I need to do so, including extra camera batteries and SD cards.
I highly recommend this bag.

It is big enough for the 15r3, and pretty nice quality.
It looks a bit pricy on Amazon currently. I was able to use my Dell gift card to purchase it through Dell. It is really spacious, and only seems a little larger than other bags.

It doesn't look like much, but man it is the most durable backpack I've ever been exposed to. I've had mine 8+ years through hell and high water (I'm an on-site construction manager) and its still in good shape.
When I use it as a technician bag, I put 1 or 2 toolpouches in the middle pocket with my laptop in the back. Works much better than you would think.
