If you have cats or other pets that like to sit on you, get a bed tray to put over you while you sleep. It can also be useful in general to hold stuff so you don't have to reach to your sides. I used this one and it worked out perfectly. I think this one is cheaper but can't confirm it's identical. It might be better since you don't have the side slits. My cats were trying to poke their heads in the sides so I had to stick a pillow there to keep them out lol.
Make sure you have everything you'll need set where you can reach it, and nothing heavy that will need to be moved. I got some 5-gallon buckets from Home Depot to hold cat litter right next to the cat boxes, and a plastic container for scooping it up so I could avoid moving heavy litter bags for a while. Basically just think about all the things you do that might require strength or reach, and figure out workarounds for them. A loofah on a stick can make washing a lot easier and let you wash your hair sooner than you otherwise could. I was washing myself in the sink the day after surgery, instead of waiting a week like you hear everyone doing. Tools, yo. :D
Long-reach toilet wipe. I found that helpful. They're like $7 so better to have one on hand in case you need it. Though with your mom there you might be fine. I kicked my mom out pretty much as soon as she brought me home from the surgery center. I don't like having people around when I'm feeling bleh.

Breakfast table thingy I love to use my laptop in bed, but it is so bad for the motor thing. This would be perfect to let me safely use my laptop while laying down and improve my posture.
