You can teach a dog to respect a fence even if they could easily jump it. As long as there is a physical barrier that the pup can see they can learn to respect it.
My golden learned to respect decorative garden fencing that wasn't even a foot high.
For a lab I would use something a little more substantial since it's also going to be the perimeter fence. Something like:

Would be fine until the teenage months when your pup might push the boundaries and maybe even jump the fence or push it over.
In my opinion one shouldn't leave a young dog unsupervised in the yard so you'll have lots of opportunity to reinforce proper behaviour when it comes to the fencing. Never lift or carry your pup over the fence. Never encourage your pup to go to the other side of the fence. If you do the idea will form in their head that they can go back there.
If they've never gone there they have a much stronger chance of never trying to go there.
