I think this is the trade paperback with the Hulk Gang.

Coming from a Marvel Cinematic background, I would recommend:

  • The Ed Brubaker Captain America line, as this will most likely play heavily into the upcoming Winter Soldier film. The book continues well after the initial Winter Soldier storyline, and it's all really good.

  • The Warren Ellis Iron Man: Extremis storyline, as this covered a decent amount of the major concept from Iron Man 3, as well as the origin from Iron Man

In addition, since you've already read Whedon's Astonishing, I have to recommend Morrison's New X-Men, the storyline that Astonishing builds heavily from. Claremont's Dark Phoenix Saga is a great classic story, if you're unfamiliar.

As for Wolverine, a recent favorite of many is Old Man Logan. This is a self-contained 'future' story, so it's not canonical, but it's good. The Claremont/Miller Wolverine is always a classic, and heavily influenced The Wolverine.

Old Man Logan is the only Wolverine story that I've enjoyed since sometime in the 90s.

Good picks!

Also, I have a stupid question. Do you get the entire story if you buy the graphic novels like this? Like is all of Infinity Gauntlet or Old Man Logan contained in these collections? I'm always confused when looking for story arcs to buy.

So there's an ongoing Old Man Logan with multiple volumes but you want the stand-alone beginning, [Old Man Logan by Millar/McNiven] (https://www.amazon.com/Wolverine-Old-Logan-Mark-Millar/dp/0785131728/ref=sr_1_1).

That and X:23: Innocence Lost are the two best books to go along with the movie Logan.

Then from there Claremont/Miller Wolverine.

Enjoy!

This is the beginning of the story. The story continues with 50 issues where he goes back in time to prevent the actions from happening.

So, for some more details:

Old Man Logan, written by Mark Millar, was originally a 2008 storyline in the Wolverine ongoing series, comprising Wolverine Vol. 3 #66–72 and Giant-Size Old Man Logan #1. It was a stand-alone alternate-world story about a bad future where the villains took over, with him being one of the few heroes left alive (being virtually unkillable), but in retirement with a wife and kids. It was an eight issue story, and ended there.

Come the Secret Wars event in 2015, the gimmick for that event was that all the books ongoing got cancelled, and were replaced with various miniseries of alternate universes, since the main crux of Secret Wars was that the entire multiverse had been destroyed, with the only remains being Battleworld, a hodge-podge of tiny remnants of different realities forced together as the last survivors of the multiverse.

One of those miniseries was Old Man Logan, written by Brian Michael Bendis, took place in a setting where the world of the original Old Man Logan was part of Battleworld. In the story, Old Man Logan discovers something is generally wrong (since the citizens of Battleworld are forbidden to travel to other areas outside their own universe's), and exploring the nature of Battleworld. The miniseries ends with him fighting alongside a huge group of heroes in the climax of Secret Wars, and then waking up in New York city in the freshly remade Earth-616, the primary Marvel Universe.

This led into the (still currently) ongoing Old Man Logan series, written first by Jeff Lemire, and then Ed Brisson, which features Old Man Logan in the new Marvel Universe, aware that he's a transplant from an alternate future, and initially trying to head off what he considers the inevitable future (with some flashback/forward to his original timeline, some details retrofitted to match up with the current Marvel U's ongoing).

Yay, comic books! Anyway, the first one to read would be Mark Millar's Old Man Logan, then Bendis's Old Man Logan Vol. 0: Warzones!, and finally pick up with Lemire's Old Man Logan Vol.1: Berserker, with some Secret Wars thrown in if you feel like a bit more context.

I was about to answer that but looks like centipededamascus explained it real well. But no prob! And if you're interested in alternate reality stuff, I'm sure you'd love Old Man Logan. Its about an aging Wolverine who gone into hiding and has quit fighting/using his power s in a world where the villains have taken over and teamed up to wipe out all the heroes and Wolverine is the only surviving hero along with an aged and blind Hawkeye. Its a great read and available here
