Again you saw a deal or special offer....that exact timeframe is the exact deal I purchased. To be specific I purchased a code from amazon which was buy X, get X more time. The purchase balanced out to $9.99/month and the deal doubled the time only but what I paid for was a group of months for $9.99

Some of the codes go on sale but I’m not aware of any option ever to subscribe for 12 months.

According to this article "Microsoft offers more than 100 games as part of Xbox Game Pass, which is available starting at $9.99 a month on either Xbox One or Windows PC" and this listing on Amazon also has a 6 month membership going for $60, working out to $30/3 months. Granted, that Amazon listing is for the Xbox One as I couldn't find anything like that for PC.
