A lot of the K3 and Kenwood owners I know have gone with the Yamaha CM500 with an adapter. It's a computer headset, but there are many many reviews by ham operators that say for the money it can't be beat. I have a Heil Proset with the IC element and the CM500 and most people can't tell the difference when I switch between them.

Yamaha CM500 for sure, but I've also had very good results (and reports) using the Creative Fatal1ty gaming headset (though I've had to choke the living hell out of it with ferrites when running the amp). It appears the Fatal1ty has been replaced with a newer model, but the specs seem the same.

To interface to what radio? Lots of people with Elecraft K3 and KX3s are very happy with the Yamaha CM500, myself included. For portable ops I use the apple earbuds or anything small with the hand mic. For at home I use a footswitch or VOX with the CM500. They can be had for between $40 and $50 USD depending on retailer. I wouldn't buy something more fancy as a radio with appropriate EQ will make any mic sound appropriate.

When I first started, a couple of my fellow ham friends recommended the Yamaha CM500 to me.

I bought some Yamaha CM500s for about $60 USD (£39.90).

Here on Amazon you can get them for $55 USD (£36.59)

I loved them for about a year until they aux broke (Ironically plugging it into a device it came with, which I didn't entirely know what it was). The audio is great and the mic is nothing short of a massive deal. I've never had anyone over an audio call or video game say that it's not good enough or that I was too far away from it.

It feels great, too. I have a rather large head and it fits perfectly and the padding is amazing. Only possible downside, really, is that they don't look "swag" or "on point" etc.

TL;DR: Yamaha CM500's are great and you should feel great, too.
