Oh man, dropping my schedule/structure feels so good. It feels like taking off uncomfortable dress pants and then putting on fuzzy pajamas instead.

I'm working on making it less of a PITA, and I've found a couple things that seem to be working:

  • I have a physical planner. I found that, for me, writing things down makes them stick more than typing them into an app
  • When I'm getting back on the wagon planning-wise, I super low-ball the number of things I put on my to-do list each day. This last time was literally a week of: brush teeth, use mouthwash. Anything else I happened to accomplish was a happy bonus. And then once I felt comfortable and ready, I started adding one or two other small tasks.
  • I bought stickers and at the end of every day, if I've done a reasonable job of accomplishing the things on that day's list (note: reasonable, not necessarily perfect), I pick out a sticker and put it on that day. This way I get a (tiny) reward, and I can easily see my progress as I look back over previous days.

TL;DR: Baby steps. No really, the tiniest steps you can think of.
