For a glass protector, I have the Yootech one and I'm happy.
I just got mine today and installed one and had the same issue, sent an email to support.
Hopefully they'll refund me too.

When you mentioned about the Rhinoshield screen protector, I went to Amazon to take a look at the reviews on it, and almost all of them say that the screen protector either goes right to the edge of the AMOLED display, or is a bit shy and still exposes it.

The best one that I've tried is the Yootech TGSP, and they've even released a newer version that would cover slightly more than the viewable display itself.

Yootech has really good reviews.
I dropped my pixel XL about 5 feet and it landed on the screen side. This was only 48 hours after receiving it. Looked at the screen and it looked cracked. I peeled the screen protector and it absorbed the fall. The screen is fine. This is the protector I have on it (it comes with two of them). This is the case I've been using, got it for 3 bucks on a sale a few weeks ago.
