Apparently they did the same thing with, like, every one of L. Ron Hubbard's fiction books on Amazon

I started reading Black and White 1 by Taiyo Matsumoto. I really enjoyed it. Matsumoto has created these two kids that are tough and go around beating up Yakuza. He uses this great style that is a cross between Japanese manga and European comics. The drawings are playful and cartoony but not in a manga kind of way. It's the drawing that really makes the book. I haven't finished it yet but the story is minimal. We learn about the boys devotion to one another and their antagonism toward the gangs around them. It's a fun read that I would recommend.

Sale discounts for new manga in US:

  1. Rightstuf holiday sales: 50% off. Only for select series, but includes popular titles like Berserk and Jump stuff.

  2. Barnes & Noble buy 2 get 1 free: ~33% off. Often you can get more than 33% with additional coupons and some volumes aren't at retail price to begin with, BUT you have to play around with the numbers because they take the cheapest things as free.

  3. Rightstuf publisher sales: 33% off.

  4. Rightstuf non-sale: 25% off. They often give out 5~10% off coupons with orders, which can lower this more.

There are also other retailers like instocktrades which give 40% off regularly, ebay for used stuff with relatively common coupons (going up to 20% off), and Amazon where volumes go for 50% off randomly (for example, Grand Blue Dreaming vol. 2 right now).

Canada has Indigo, which goes up to >50% off: detailed sales info

A lot of these are pseudo-random/not in a particular order (like vol 20, 21, and 22), but there are often 2-3 in a series that qualify. I also found some (listed at the bottom) that weren't part of this deal but had coupons to use to get them for an immediate discount.

RWBY: Official Manga Anthology Vol. 1 & Vol. 3

Rurouni Kenshin Vol. 7: Includes vols. 19, 20 & 21 & Vol. 9

Dragon Ball omnibuses: Vol 5, Vol 13

Tokyo Ghoul: re, Vol. 11 & Vol. 8 & Vol. 13

Radiant Vol. 5 and Vol. 6 - Is this even technically a manga??

Mixed 3-for-2 and coupon deals within a series (but you should probably collect these series in their box sets to save money):

Bleach, Vol. 64 is $8.68 - $2.02 coupon.

Bleach, Vol. 68 & Vol. 69 & Vol. 70 & Vol. 73

Bleach Box Set 3: Includes vols. 49-74

Naruto (3-in-1 Edition), Vol. 23: Includes vols. 67, 68 & 69 is part of the 3 for 2 deal.

Naruto, Vol. 67 is part of the 3 for 2 deal.

Naruto, Vol. 72 is $8.45 - $1.79 coupon.

One Piece, Vol. 76 is $8.66 - $2.00 coupon.

One Piece, Vol. 77 is part of the 3 for 2 deal.

One Piece, Vol. 78 is $8.36 - $1.70 coupon. Same price as vol 76.

---

Interesting stuff part of the 3 for 2 deal:

Shigenori Soejima: Art Works Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 - From Persona artist Shigenori Soejima.

Lone Wolf and Cub Omnibus Volume 1

Final Fantasy Ultimania Archive Volume 2 and Volume 3

In addition to what's already been said there's also a bunch of spin-offs and one-shots:

I just found out that Barjack Rhapsody technically comes after Last Order Volume 2. You might want to edit your post so people don't read it before starting Last Order.

There's also Ashen Victor, which wasn't reprinted by Kodansha:

It should probably be read after the Battle Angel series.

Ya see, I'm not too sure what you listen to and I'm not good with picking just one item. If you don't, I'm gonna throw a few suggestions your way.

  • Rush's 2112. Just recently listened to them/this album for the first time last month-ish. People said it was great, and it is.

  • This Will Destroy You- Young Mountain. Don't know if you're big on Post-Rock, but I really recommend these guys.

  • Vangelis- Blade Runner. Don't know if you like synthesizers, Blade Runner or that noir feel in your music, but if you do, this would definitely be a good addition to your collection.

I'll stop there as to not make this any bulkier. Hope one of those is of interest to you.

Again, not good with decisions so either Yu-Gi-Oh cards, used manga or Jedi sticker.

But for real, What up doe? I'd be more than happy to suggest other albums if you really want.

Manga seems an obvious choice here, something like Yotsuba to could be fun. Others to check out are Kamikaze Girls and Nana

In terms of mythology and folk lore:

Lafcaido Hearn's ghost stories are quite fun.

As is this book on Japanese monsters - The Book of Yokai

Lastly, I am a literature person so I have to recommend at least one piece of literature. Perhaps something like Banana Yoshimoto's Kitchen or Soseki's I Am a Cat could be good a young reader and serve as an introduction to Japanese literature. Though admittedly the Soseki may a little much for 12 years old. It is a great book though!
