and then I took my soldering iron and went at it with some black electrical tape and heat-shrink tubing

I had a remote & module left over from my last bike, which is why i opted to do it this way rather that buy a new kit from a site like ledglow.com

My method is not for the faint of heart. I recommend buying a plug and play 6 or 8 pc kit, rather than trying to make your own kit like I did, but to answer your question the LED's were from amazon with that first link.

If you have an old pc fan, cut the wires off that and splice the fan's connector/wires to your LEDs. Then you can just easily plug and unplug them from your motherboard in any extra fan slots.

It's a pretty cool light, but it's an ugly black box that attaches to the door (you can see it on the bottom left of the storage compartment). It runs on AAA batteries and uses magnets for activation.

That's the ones I used they are trial and error though for whatever reason the manufacturers don't make them exactly to fit so I bought like 3 sets and returned the ones I didn't need. I also found if the prongs aren't exactly reaching inside to just bend them slightly with a flat head screwdriver.

Use Amazon to buy blue LED strips, an inline dimmer, and a power supply. Place them wherever it is convenient to you.

You can get a 16 foot roll of strips, but you probably only need a few small sections. I just bought 4 1-foot sections for 7 bucks to add to my DIY light hood.

Edit: To avoid having to do anything resembling soldering, you can use sockets like these to connect to the wires on LED strips. With waterproof strips like this, you can use an inline dimmer and plug it all right to a 12v power supply.
