In another thread, OP said it was from Amazon, and someone else provided a link. Hopefully it is the right one :). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C4IS4Q2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_gTYsCbZ1VQ2DF

Amazon! It's great, has a nice wide with and feels pretty sturdy.

Got the bath tray from Amazon, thanks to another r/LushCosmetics poster. Kicked up bath time exponentially. Gimmie a sec. I’ll get the link

I rarely take baths I’m more of a shower girl but get yourself one of these babies and always keep extra dry hand towels near to help dry your hands when you need to turn the page.

Bath stuff? For some mums, bath time is the only substantial "Me-time" that they get, so license to treat themselves might be nice, with bath bombs, candles and you can get bath caddies that are specially made to hold a book and a glass of wine.

A bluetooth speaker might make a nice mood-setter, too; Betron make some great ones and while they aren't waterproof, they're only five volts and probably less than fifteen bucks so replaceable :)

Molecular Bio phd student here, recently diagnosed. It depends on the paper and what I'm trying to get out of it, but there's a few things that help.

  1. Get a pen that I really like (I have a weird sensory thing with pens) and jot my thoughts down in the margins regularly as I read. Even stuff like "wtf does this mean?". Or if there's a reference after a sentence about something I'm really into, circle the ref and make a note to look it up later (which I almost never do). Making little notations keeps me engaged.

  2. Accountability and deadlines. Having a plan to discuss the paper, whether in a journal club or a class or with lab mates or whatever, is one of the only things that will reliably force me through a paper. I need to fear disappointing someone in order to get motivated. As I've become the most senior person in my lab, I realize that if we have a journal club and others don't understand the paper, I'll be the one they look to for help understanding. This has really helped push me through.

  3. Nuclear option: print out the paper(s), grab some pens and highlighters and a glass of water (or beer), run a bath, and read papers in the bath. Being soaking wet and submerged in warm water with no electronics in sight makes it much harder to get distracted. I tell myself I cannot leave this bathtub until the paper is read through. If I come across something I don't know and need to look it up, I just note it and push through. If it's important enough I'll look it up when I get out of the bath if it doesn't become clear. Having one of these is useful.

  4. There's a playlist on Spotify called "Aphex Twin Chill" that's just all of Aphex Twin's ambient mellow instrumental tracks. This is my reading soundtrack. Or, if I'm not feeling music, the app called A Soft Murmur is a mixer of a variety of background noise (rain, campfire, birds, etc).

It has gotten easier over the years, and adderall changed the game SIGNIFICANTLY. But I still feel like I'm behind all my colleagues in my ability to keep up my lit review. They just read papers right there in the lab office space. I had to make a little sensory deprivation cubby that i'd hide in with my headphones on next to my desk on the floor. I knew I seemed insane, but it's the only way I could read. And I never suspected I had ADHD...

My sister uses this one because of the wine glass holder. I put a chair next to my tub and use voice commands on my laptop. I don't read physical books :p Another benefit to that is I can netflix in my tub too.

Treat yo’self.

Also, I recently bought this for my back and neck and it’s life changing.

Edit: I just saw you don’t take baths :(

Mischief Managed!

There's an overarching theory behind how these will all help with a school experience. Which is, basically, that you need to have fun in between studying. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy, goes the saying.

  • So, since we're talking about wine, I thought I should point out that one of my favorite ways of enjoying wine is with a nice bath. And what better way to make that prospect quite a bit safer, than with this piece of heaven?
  • Next, we come to brooms. What else would a wizard or witch ride? You know what else is interesting about witches? According to Harry Potter, they basically enjoy a tickling sensation while pretending to be burned at the stake (I swear I remember this from the books). Since they're already having fun with it, I think they should have even more fun by turning the flames colors.
  • You know who wears a lovely hat? Well, bonnet. A pretty, floral bonnet. Captain Mal Reynolds. I could surely use this to maximize my time enjoying Captain Mal's world.
  • This one is a tough one. Because there are so many books I could want, but that's such a traditional explanation... So, since we're talking about books as a journey, I really wanted to put a choose-your-own-adventure book. But it hasn't come out yet, so I'll have to content myself with this journey provoker.
  • Moving on to trunks. Trunks are storage, right? And I've got a bunch of jewelry that's just begging for a home. This looks like the perfect place for it.
  • Finally, we come to capes. Superheros, wizards, Sherlock Holmes. All these people have a history of wearing capes. And wizards are a strange people, and we sometimes need to work to understand strange people. This book might help guide the way.
