We took our daughter to Rocky Mountain National Park this summer right before she turned two and we had a blast! She loved the mountains and water, and we let her run/climb/explore as much as much as she wanted. I do recommend taking along a structured carrier for long hikes. We bought a Deuter Kid Comfort 2 with the rain/sun shade and it fit both of us comfotably.

We love this bag! (I’m the mom 😊). It has a place for a camelback bladder and tons of storage. My husband carries all the climbing gear and I carry Sammy and all the baby gear.

Like a hiking backpack. That's our plan when baby is a toddler and walking but still not big enough to do long walks/hikes/shopping trips. Distributes the extra weight of a bigger kid much more comfortably.

This is what we did. We went in looking for a Kelty and ended up with a Deuter because it seemed to work better for us. Another family in there at the same time as us wanted the Deuter but their toddler bawled every time they put her in it, so they got the Kelty.

It has a detachable sun shade that we leave at home because he just pulls it out and throws it on the ground.

I nurse in public with my luminiere carrier. It’s pretty easy now. It didn’t work as well when LO was little. For the first few months I used the cuddlebug wrap. Luminiere carrier

Not really sure, we just kind of phased out using it. We also use this hip seat that might help you if he hates being strapped in. It’s a knockoff of a much more expensive one, but it works fine, and it saves your back if you need to be holding a huge baby all the time!

When items like this exist in our world there' s no reason to think they couldn't in the settings of dnd. Maybe some kind of retractable leash for the child/kobold harness so they can remain attached but dismount at will? (Or move around on the harness freely)
maybe a larger foot stand that sticks out the back more. Could always engineer a howda that attaches to a backpack and the kobold sits above the backpack at around/above the Goliaths height?

I think it is best to use what baby enjoys. If baby isnt happy you wont be! But, simply as future reference,

https://www.amazon.com/Clevr-Country-Backpack-Carrier-Midnight/dp/B07CZ6231N/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=Clevr+Cross+Country+Baby+Backpack+Hiking+Carrier&qid=1556044535&s=gateway&sr=8-3

This is the exact pack that we use. Like I said in another post, he was not a fan until recently so you may need to wait a little while.

Don't have much info on their actual deficits, but a piggyback harness may be useful and is easier to manage than holding the child or using a wagon in rough terrain and on hikes. Something like this Piggyback Rider

Biggest suggestion...stay in either Osaka or Kyoto and do trips from there to the other one. Switching hotels is pain, even more of a pain with a 2 yr old. Each is only about 45 mins away from each other. Take into consideration there is not a whole lot to do in Kyoto at night, which might not be a problem since you have a 2 yr old but you could also consider making Osaka home base as it has more to do at night.
I'd say two days in Osaka not one. Lots more to see than can fit into a day, especially if you go to the Aquarium as you can be in there for a long time.
For Kyoto, three days is the best starting point. Try not to cut shorter than this. Four days is nice but you could also consider a day trip to Nara. Nara is really nice and has the whole deer thing. Of course be careful as the deer are SUPER friendly...sometimes too friendly especially if nipping at a child.
Biggest tip for travelling with a young kid...get a Carrier Backpack. Something like:
https://www.amazon.com/Deluxe-Toddler-Backpack-Country-Carrier/dp/B00LH7MEMM/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1518110448&sr=8-4&keywords=backpack+child+carrier
Do not do the stroller thing. Lots of stairs, uneven ground, tight spots, etc etc.

We're going for the Beco Gemini. Best value in Baby Bargains and great reviews. We were also given a couple of slings that i don't think I'll use because of lower back problems.

You can make this hands-free with this product.

We have a rigid, metal frame, hiking backpack carrier that does well with larger children. It’s conceivable that you could modify it to close the leg holes and get a well trained pitt bull to sit comfortably in it in a normal dog way. You could maybe lower the seat to make more room for her to be better contained and possibly strap her in securely with the shoulder straps. She could sit there and watch over your shoulder. If you’re crafty enough to modify it, it might work.
