Tina Peterson is in my parent's ward in Bountiful, UT. She is not a BYU professor, she is a stay-at-home mom who has a Bachelor's in Near Eastern studies from BYU. She collaborated on a book about Isaiah that anachronistically explains how Isaiah so very clearly and obviously talks about mormon prophecies.

I don't know if she can read hieroglyphics, but I do know that she can read Hebrew. She often holds classes for the ward/stake, teaching them how to read Hebrew.

She's pretty damn religious and is a weird TBM, honestly thinks that she prophesied the gender and personality of her first two children, and is generally full of it.

Tradition holds that Mary was near 14 or so. While St. Joseph was near 50. In the protoevangelium of James it details the reason why. Mary was born to Sts. Joachim and Anna, after a long period of bareness. She was dedicated to the lord and raised in the temple, when she was old enough, for puberty it was decided that she couldn't live there. So from the men who could be caretakers, Joseph was chosen and they became betrothed.

You can read about it with commentary and other historical things from this book: "Mary as the Early Christians knew her'

He's not /r/Reformed, but I really enjoyed reading The Real Mary: Why Evangelical Christians Can Embrace the Mother of Jesus by Scot McKnight.

What a great desire! I heartily fifth the recommendation to pray the rosary daily! Here is a video (I think I saw it posted here somewhat recently, but in case you didn't see it...) on the rosary by Fr. Don Calloway, MIC. It's a good video.

I recently finished total consecration to Jesus through Mary and I cannot recommend it enough. This is a link to St. Louis de Montfort's method for consecration. It also includes links to parts of True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary written by that saint which can be read for free on that site. (If you like physical books, you can also find it cheaply on Amazon)

I used 33 Days to Morning Glory for my consecration preparation. Use whichever you want.

You can also consider reading the Life of Mary as Seen by the Mystics. A short compilation of several Catholic mystics relaying Mary's life as told by Mary when those mystics had visions of Mary. I was quite skeptical about this book, but my mom lent it to me and I decided to give it a try. It brought me closer to Jesus, Mary and St. Joseph. I have found this book helped me tremendously with meditating on the mysteries while praying the rosary.

Encyclopedia of Mary is an extremely rich resource for what you're looking for.

As the world descends into chaos, Christians are thinking deeply about how to stem the tide. Many options and suggestions have been presented to deal with Christian persecution and cultural decadence, but none can hold a candle to The Marian.

The Martian Plot

When astronauts blast off from the planet Mars, they leave behind Mark Watney (Matt Damon), presumed dead after a fierce storm. With only a meager amount of supplies, the stranded visitor must utilize his wits and spirit to find a way to survive on the hostile planet. Meanwhile, back on Earth, members of NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring him home, while his crew mates hatch their own plan for a daring rescue mission.

I have a four-way tie for best mariology.

In no particular order:

Marian Mystery by Denis Farkasfalvy

Queen Mother by Ted Sri

Daughter Zion by Joseph Ratzinger

Mariology by Matthias Joseph Scheeben

If you're looking for books directed at a more popular audience (i.e. if you're not a theologian), then the following are very good:

Behold your Mother by Tim Staples

Hail Holy Queen by Scott Hahn

EDIT: Here's a great bibliography my professor made for a mariology course.

EDIT: Just as a caveat, my interest in mariology is mostly biblical. Apparitions aren't a huge interest of mine. So the above reflects that. Though there's plenty on dogmatic/systematic mariology there too.

Yes it goes into depth on each mystery and has a short and long version prayer for each. The long versions have entire scripture readings you can recite.

It’s well worth the $3 it cost on amazon

These are the classic books on Mary and on the Rosary. Their fairly cheap too. Don't know about getting them in Portuguese but they are very popular, I assume if you look around you will find a translation.

I’d recommend the work by Aiden Nichols “There is No Rose: The Mariology of the Catholic Church”

https://www.amazon.com/There-No-Rose-Mariology-Catholic/dp/1451484461

Read some of the reviews on the product page that give a good synopsis of the book and give a glimpse into how profound Mary’s role is as co-redemptrix.

I do not think that Christianity can be understood without Mary.

I agree with other recommendations around considering postponing the wedding, but I wouldn't break off the relationship yet... As a former agnostic myself, I used to find belief in the resurrection a bit of a stretch given how long ago it was and I felt like God had basically "been silent" for a few thousand years which didn't seem to make much sense to me. I started reading about miracles at Fatima and other Catholic Marian apparitions and doing my own independent research and realized that there was more than the material world can explain... I've attached a few books I read on my journey that were helpful but have tons more if she ends up having the interest in considering...

Definitely keep everything in prayer as well, but it sounds like you definitely are being called to the truth of the Catholic faith, and you need to really consider how challenging it will be to raise kids in a "mixed" religious family. We'll be praying for you.
