Amazon is a life savers for new parents - you are overestimating IHMO.

Diapers - At most 10 / day, probably 8 / day. Will go down when baby sleeps through the night, and after 1 year it will be 5 / day. $20 for 84 - subscribe and save @ amazon or about $30 / 2 weeks.
Diaper cream - lasts 6+ months. $8 on amazon.
Baby wipes - 1000 will last 6+ months. $25.
Baby shampoo, cream, oil. Buy one and use it for 6+ months.

Baby formula - ready to feed is expensive, use baby formula powder and mix it yourself.
Baby clothes - get hand-me-downs / buy used. A baby's wardrobe will change every 3 - 6 months so the clothes don't really get heavily used.

But is she a patriot enough to wear these diapers: https://www.amazon.com/Honest-Company-Diapers-Stars-Stripes/dp/B00ZJ2NOCA

I lucked out, my sister had a baby about 8 months before mine was born, and he grew pretty quickly. My sister also went a little crazy with the ordering, so she had almost two of the huge boxes of pampers unused for size 1. Our baby registry was on Amazon, so we got $100 for diaper/baby stuff that we ordered some size 2s Huggies when the time came. I just ordered Luvs, and those were the first diapers I actually paid for, and I got lucky that there was a sale on Amazon (for size 2 at least). Less than $20 gets you 216

I don't think they have the wetness indicator, but so far it was pretty easy to tell if he needs a changing.

> If you live in the USA, your healthcare cost will go up significantly, since you are adding dependents to your insurance.

This wasn't my experience. The difference in coverage between self plus one to family was marginal. (I actually don't even think I had self plus one then, it was self or family)

>You’ll need furniture: crib, changing table, bassinet, mattresses and sheets to go with them. Probably a dresser for all of the baby’s clothes.

These are one time expenses. Many aren't even necessary for the first year. Used items are acceptable for all of these.

>Diapers!!! Tons of them

Cloth diapers or amazon family make this fairly inexpensive. 252 size 1 diapers are $21 ($19 with coupon)

>Clothes!!! Tons of them

This is as expensive as you make it. Infants don't need a revolving wardrobe. Onesies are like $2 each new. Used clothes, since the child will grow into a new size each time you blink are very prudent. I clothed my daughter in consignment sale items for 4 years at minimal annual cost.

>Food. Breastfeeding doesn’t work for everyone, so you may need to supplement / replace with formula. And after a few months, they start needing “real” food.

Formula was my biggest expense for the first year or so. Around $100/month for a while on subscribe and save. Honestly, it became much cheaper once we went to real food.

>Child care. Who is going to take care of the baby?

I addressed that.

>Other baby supplies: Car seats, stroller, diaper bag, toys, bottles, breast pump supplies, blankets, towels, wipes, books, medicine, thermometers, bibs, pacifiers, bowls/plates, spoons, baby tub, high chair... I could go on.

These are also as expensive as you make them out to be. Apart from the car seat and stroller, most are nominal expenses. Breast pumps are (generally) covered by insurance.

I never said it was cheap. Just not expensive.

>(My suggestion is to ask for gift cards, or return all diapers and most clothes if you have a baby shower, then buy as you need)

This is very good advice. A huge swath of things we got at the baby shower ended up collecting dust until we finally gave them away.

I love Sam's club brand diapers, but they're not the most crunchy for sure. However, Amazon just started their own line that's comparable to some of the more natural lines and you can purchase in bulk and use their subscribe and save discount.

Edited to add link:

I was surprised to see those items so expensive and I think I found some that was for less, hope these kinks works:

Luvs Ultra Leakguards Disposble Diapers, Size 2, 228 Count, ONE Month Supply https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F6G42R9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_h5iMBbASRSSFQ

If you can replace those wishlist items I’d be happy to help with some diapers for our little one?

We just switched to diaper pants for my 19 month old actually! We got a monthly subscription on Amazon for Huggies Slip-On so we get 128 diapers for $33 (as opposed to $42 without a subscription).

Parasol also makes them and I wish they were more affordable because we used to use their regular diapers and they are my absolute favorite, but the cost is ridiculous. With them you get 96 diapers for $43 ($55 without subscription!)

We originally got a small pack of the Huggies slip-ons from Target (had to order online and pick-up in store) so I could try them first before getting a full subscription. They’re great! My toddler hates having to lay in his back for diaper changes so these work perfectly and are really absorbent!

Amazon! Here’s the link. It may only apply to the larger quantities.

Also don't be afraid of diapers! You can just order whatever size. This giant size box will last about a month at any size. Bigger diaper means less per box but bigger diaper means bigger kid and less to change. The box really does last about a month. All of them are around 25 dollars for the big box.

We use whatever diaper finds its way to us (mother in law gave us tons at our baby shower, friends with a slightly older baby keeps outgrowing his and hands them down to us, we forgot to buy them so just ran to the store and bought whatever was available)... BUT, we really like Seventh Generation diapers! They are so soft and natural feeling and I love the undyed look. Also, some of our friends use a compostable diaper service Earth Baby though it's only available in be Bay Area.

I found that putting my son in his regular daytime diaper - Pampers (babydry or cruisers) and then putting GoodNites Bedtime Bedwetting... pull-up over his diaper works.

u/tinatrying · 1 pointr/BabyBumps

So this IS a great deal, and I don't want to disparage Op...it's a super awesome find, but I want folks to know:

FYI that Seventh Generation usually has "middle of the road" reviews. http://www.amazon.com/Seventh-Generation-Touch-Cloth-Diapers/dp/B00TOCKWAI/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

Usually, they are ranked lower in the natural diaper category than bambo nature or Naty, both because they still use a lot of man made components (note in the description that the BACKSHEET (the part facing out, and not touching the baby) is where most of the real cotton is.

Usually they rank lower than more mainstream diapers like pampers, Huggies, or even honest, because they tend to be oddly shaped and seem to leak more.

Before you commit to a few super packs, watch some YouTube reviews because these neither serve the goal of being closest to nature OR being the best on leaks. Both pampers and Huggies currently have Amazon family (formerly Amazon mom) sales for a single subscribe and save delivery with close to 50% off when you stack the manufacturer and family coupons.

Just another option.
(still a great find, OP!)
