Top Reddit comments about Diving & Snorkeling Equipment:

I travel a bit and wanted something that could come with me easily. Built a sff computer and bought two hard cases to hold everything. I wonder when/if Oculus will have a case that will hold everything because it was getting annoying to carry all the separate boxes around.

Everything you would spend getting a D4 to work underwater is likely better put toward a rated dive light. As fun as it would be to convert this sub's darling into something that can survive those pressures, the specific requirements that diving lights are prone to kinda conflict with the mission of the D4.

Big things to keep in mind:

  • Pressure is the enemy of your switch. Most diving lights utilize magnetic switches, because traditional clicky or e-switches compress at anything past maybe four meters underwater.

  • Your light has to be more waterproof than you might think. Again, due to pressure, single o-rings may not be enough to keep your light sealed.

You would be hard pressed to find a container for the D4 that would both allow for use of the e-switch and be able to manage the intense amount of heat the thing generates.

Instead, look into another light that might fit your requirements. I know that ThorFire makes a dive light with three XPL emitters in deepish reflectors, which should give you more throw. I don't have any experience with it myself but its worth looking into.

Our resident luminary ZeroAir also reviewed a couple XTAR dive lights (one and two) that you might want to peep at. The first one, the XTAR D36, might be more of interest to you as it puts out more light than the D4.

Stop. Never force anything with a fountain pen.

Sounds like you need some silicone grease, available from pretty much every fountain pen retailer. I use this and it's pretty much enough for a whole lifetime. Be careful with hardware store silicone greases and stuff because it might not be the right thing--if you don't know what to get, order it from a fountain pen retailer.

Anyways, get the grease first. Then you can unscrew the 618 piston mechanism from the pen by not pulling out the clutch knob. Lubricate the piston and put it back together.

Edit: wait a second--your Wing Sung might have come with a little tube/converter full of a clear grease. That's silicone grease and you can use that if you still have it.

(Yes, I recylced my own comment)

The good, first dive computers that are generally thrown around for little money are

  • Cressi Leonardo or Giotto
  • Mares Puck Pro+
  • AquaLung i300
  • Suunto Zoop Novo

Small caveat: Suunto currently has a little problem with their computers. If I saw one for a good price I wouldn't care.

The differences are VERY small. You can't really go wrong with any of those. Just look for a good black friday offer or buy one used.

    >accepts Nitrox up to 40% but I know that is pretty common.

IIRC they all can do Nitrox.

EDIT: Posted before the 600 pounds-budget was mentioned.

i wore the purple shirt here to a no-gi class and at least one person assumed that meant i was a purple belt. they figured out pretty quickly that wasn't the case. I didn't even realize the colors were all the belt colors. i just like purple. whoooooops.

u/IsMyNameTaken · 4 pointsr/beards

Yes, there will be some long term degradation of the rubber if you use petroleum jelly. Try and find some silicone grease instead. Something like this should work: https://www.amazon.com/Trident-Silicone-Grease-Jar/dp/B00V2G2BWQ

u/Lazerr · 3 pointsr/knifeclub

Spyderco Domino/Dice is a good choice if you want a fliper. The Domino does come in CTS-204P, but just over your price range by 15 bucks or so.

I hear good things about the Boker Plus Vox F3.

Or wait for some of the upcoming Zero Tolerance knives - http://zt.kaiusaltd.com/knives?newF=746

u/SnowHeroHD · 3 pointsr/ElectricSkateboarding

For that price you could have a separate lanyard for each remote plus 30 spares lol

Also they have the ones with the buckles for like $10~

Here’s the same company flatland collabed with and has a buckle for $8

I bought this one today. I just got my open water this past weekend so i'm by no means an expert on the subject but the reviews looked decent and I wont be pushing its limits any time soon.

Didn't get to use them, though. Stupid Irma.

u/pomaplata · 2 pointsr/podcasting

It’s seahorse 92f

It’s not as thick as a Pelican but it’s far less and I’ve had zero issues traveling. Way worth it.

You'll find your sweet spot soon with the breathing. A lot of pros train with breathers, maybe you could try that until looking straight down becomes habit. Trying to do a bunch of changes at once can kinda screw with your equilibrium.

And thank you. I'm sorry to hear your scoliosis is causing issues as well. Have a great day man.

I have a Cressi snorkel set I got on Amazon for ~$40 that I've been very happy with.

Edit: this is the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CILSU78/ref=twister_B07CHZMHL7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

u/ioncloud9 · 2 pointsr/scuba

I got a similar light made by the same OEM (Brinyte). This one has multiple beam intensity settings, push button activation, a red led setting, and a ball attachment arm to attach to a lighting tray. It also takes both 18650 and 26650 batteries. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JS97Q7S/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_qNERCbSB3SCJK

u/G00DGUYGABE · 2 pointsr/triathlon

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01IFXYV08/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1494513438&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=xterra+wetsuit&dpPl=1&dpID=51nlQN40AeL&ref=plSrch

This is a pretty goo deal on an xterra volt I just invested in, shipped 4 days before it said it would too.

I'm not sure about the differences between triathlon and surfing wetsuits. The first thing that comes to mind is how hard it would be to take off quickly, which is accounted for in tri wetsuits. It looks like the Patagonia has a front-zip though, so I'm sure it wouldn't be hard.

Pocket knives are a lot like watches, people don't notice them and if they do they're usually fans. In the past seven-ish years of carrying a pocket knife I've had maybe two people say something: one was a security guard telling me "no" and the other was a girl who noticed my grass green Paramilitary 2 against my dark blue jeans pocket. In my experience, if you don't look like a tacticool 2a guy wearing a "Protected by Glock" tee, people won't be squeamish about you carrying a knife.

Also, there are different knives. People are going to react differently to this knife than that knife.

u/-not-serious- · 1 pointr/Swimming

I've used this one for a while, haven't encountered any real issues.

u/mcliudlin · 1 pointr/pine64

Update: I ordered this adapter and it seems to be working!

I usually pack all my stuff in a carryon, though my kit is optimized for that kind of silliness, and I don't pack a drysuit.

That being said, I'd say you could check the suits, fins, masks, BCDs etc with very little fear of damage, but do carry-on your regulators, computers and underwater cameras if you can. I use an Akona Pro regulator bag for my regs, console and computers - it's well worth the $40 (even if the velcro straps inside are pretty much useless).

u/WokeAlexJonesOnJRE · 1 pointr/xboxone

I play on vga monitors. Prefer it much more than to big tvs where you're feet away. I use this converter and have never noticed input lag and I mostly play pvp games. Sitting on a 1.5kd in Destiny 2's trials.

u/Zak · 1 pointr/flashlight

The flashlight I'm seeing in this listing appears to be designed for two 18650 batteries. 10440s should be too small to make contact, and if you did manage to connect them with spacers, would not be able to output as much current as this light is likely to demand, or would have a runtime of about 3 minutes if they could.

Although I don't like their gis at all, Sanabul rashguards are legit. Less than $20, ranked, and vented armpits

u/GottaRiskIt · 1 pointr/scuba

You can get them on amazon here

They work really well, taken one of those down to 90-110 about 4 times now.

I bought an Xterra mens Large Volt wetsuit on Amazon for a good price. I'm 6'4" and 182lbs and it fits great on me - used it at a HIM and Full IM

u/ericunderwater · 1 pointr/scuba

Buying new:

Zoop = 200

SPG = 60

Compass = 25

Total = 285

-

AI comp = 370

-

I got my SPG second hand for about 30 USD, don't think there's a second hand market for computers or compasses though. Maybe the AI console could be had cheaper second hand. I'd need to refresh myself on what components degrade in what ways.

u/Human_Ballistics_Gel · 1 pointr/scuba

I've been considering this one, it seems to be very positivity reviewed, though some complain about getting ones with dead batteries.

Mares Puck Wrist Dive Computer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00106GVLA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_EpTlxb0DMHJ7V

$150 free shipping or ($155 prime shipping)

u/DonFrio · 1 pointr/diving

I like these kits from cressi. Cressi Scuba Diving Snorkeling Freediving Mask Snorkel Set, Clear Transparent https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CILSU78/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_RdL4AbYNDM2VK

There’s better but those are good enough to dive so very much good enough to snorkel.

Advice: use a lighter and burn the glass deep black then clean before your first day on the water to prevent fogging

u/Maune92 · 1 pointr/scuba

Globetrotter by Akona https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M32S1J5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_XePHAb9C1PSVW

Akona PRO Regulator Bag https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I14IOKA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_egPHAbWR9V1XK

I use these. I can fit:
-2.5mm wetsuit
-27lbs Lift, plate and wing style BC
-reg bag fits in there, I put mine at the bottom and it was fine.
-I but my comp in a DGX comp bag in the reg bag
-3mm? Neoprene shorts
-2 lights(check airlines battery policy)
-booties
-2 or 3 wrist gauges
-fins attach to the side
-mask

I think there might have been a couple other small things as well. I was able to carry this onto the plane easily. I had to take a couple things out at security, but they didn’t have a problem with it.

I’d highly recommend both of these products.

As for camera, I’m a rookie and use a Gopro, so I’m not sure about that.
