My GSD has really low toy drive, but he does have a few favorites. Here are my 5:

  1. Kong Squeakair Tennis Ball, Medium. This is his favorite toy of all time. He'll fetch it, play keep away with it, bury it in a hole and dig it back up over and over, hide it under the couch and throw a fit until I get it out, and lay around with it while we watch TV. I'm not wild about the felt (bad for teeth), but no other balls come close to this one.
  2. Kong Classic, Extra Large. We have the Extreme but chewing isn't a huge issue in this house and the extra malleability would probably hold his interest better. I gave away all our other puzzle toys because the Kong is way more versatile and lasts longer.
  3. A French Linen Tug with Handles. Not necessarily this one. I've had other tug ropes but these are more versatile without being bulky.
  4. This GoDog Plush Pig. I have no idea what it is about this specific toy, but Bruno loves it to death. When he wants to play, this is what he brings over.
  5. West Paw Zisc. Not a favorite in this house, but Bruno periodically goes through Frisbee phases and this is our go-to because it glows in the dark. EDIT: if we're counting chew toys, #5 better be a bully stick. Those are critical.

My Rosie LOVES those little squirrels. I also love this pig toy-- I got this for my Sophia years ago and it's still hanging in there, though it's looking a little sad now. My girls love their "miss piggy"

The best thing I EVER did was get my puppy a Tug Rope Toy - like this one - heavy duty, he absolutely loved it. These are cheap and LAST! Playing fetch is easy. And he loved to play Tug!

Rope Toy Set - This one is a set of 4 rope toys. Let him have his pick!

Our pit mix, Juice, LOVES playing tug of war and jumping at the spring pole we made her. That's an old gif of when it was low enough for her to reach without jumping or getting on her hind legs directly under it.

We've replaced that torn up shirt with a fire hose toy, but she has a really hard time gripping it since it's long and vertical instead of horizonal.

Does anyone have any indestructible toys they could suggest that would present a better bite target?

lol, I give these to my dog

Yeah their ropes are like stupid strong woven. I've had mine for a couple months and it's barely frayed. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XJ2H9SR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_.AHgAbFAQ5AJV

Those are still food based, I think. Have you tried something like a benebone or perhaps, braided rope chews. They're not edible, obviously, but they do sate the chew and kill everything urge. That log has helped many a foster pup.

So treats and food here are your friends. Also with socialization it's more of exposing the dog to the new things and providing positive experiences, so generally speaking that means feeding around those things, but not so close to them that they make the dog nervous or uncomfortable. That's what's called a threshold.

I wouldn't be too worried about him turned aggressive permanently, he is a puppy and at this state is very malleable. You get to shape his experiences of the world and choose what he's exposed to and manipulate his reactions. I don't know if one of your children is more brave than the other, but if one of them is then you can use them to help. Have the kid put food in a bowl for the dog and simply push it over to them and back up a little bit. See if he's comfortable with that. Ideally you're trying to teach the dog that good things come from your kids, so you'll want to break up meals into several portions for the dog, 4-5, and have them dole them out that way.

If your children are too young or unable to do that in a calm way and otherwise leave the dog alone, you'll have to find a friend with an older one to help you. The biggest thing here is to not allow the dog to practice the aggression and become habit.

There is also a chance that it could be play behavior and you have to be the judge of that. If it seems like it's guarding type stuff, it's more likely aggression. If there's play bows and stuff involved it's play, in which case you should have appropriate toys around to redirect him onto rather than having him chase your kids or target them. In any case having them feed him can't hurt anything and will help build the relationship between all of them. Better to err on the side of caution than end up with problems down the road.

Another thing that might help is having this kind of toy. It's long so no one has to get close, he can chase and bite it, it's made out of material that is easy for a puppy to bite. Shouldn't be left around for him to chew on because he might ingest pieces, but would be very easy to get him playing with that and not them.

I don’t know about your pup, but mine is obsessed with her rope balls . She sleeps with them. It’s precious. The best part is, they are cheap on Amazon.

Both mine love playing with rope toys and my male will destroy them if you give him the opportunity too. However, he loved this one BecoBall with Rope Small Dog Toy (Green) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H3BQWSS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_e2xVDb26TCBTM

It doesn't destroy very easily, it's actually the only one we have that is still in good condition, and it smells good.
