Nothing better than a gal that lifts! I bought some cheap collars that I bring with me, saves me from trying to find clips. Might help.

PSA: Instant Pot on sale for $60 today. I use mine every week for meal prepping. https://smile.amazon.com/Instant-Pot-Ultra-Programmable-Sterilizer/dp/B0777XZBMZ?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=dfe13b09-3b88-422f-bc64-07ef802d4688&pf_rd_r=14H4GHMFJAAK0KBA1PJ8

Also, I bought these last week after seeing them on Shark Tank. I did not need them because my gym has tons of barbell collars (even though they're the annoying kind) and they're $30. But.. damn are they fun. I feel like a kid again playing with those 1980s style slap bracelets. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B4LBF34/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Another short woman with minimal hand strength here. Take a look at these (or something similar):

Interestingly, they have rather low ratings on AZ, but of all the different clamps at my gym (at least three different kinds), these are my absolute favorites. The snap ones are a distant second (that snap you hear is my fingernails breaking off). The metal squeezy clips? Can't EVEN do them.

A friend at the gym bought her own pair and superglued glittery stars on 'em. Love it!

Surprised you got such shitty answers so far. Someone commented the bar is 30mm but that doesn't matter, the sleeves are the same as any Olympic bar. For $25 you can get these, which should hold just about any weight you put on the bar, as seen here.

If you don't wanna spend that much, these also have good reviews and are only $9, would probably be fine for a long time as long as you're not doing a lot of dropping from overhead or something.

I have these:

Are they the best thing since sliced bread? Dunno. But for 10$, they have been great and work well, I am happy with them. Used them for 6mo so far with no issues.

I got these for my Titan axle and they barely fit, but they hold the plates on there pretty good.

Check out Northern Lights crossbox for power racks. They're similar to rogue, but made in Canada. 2x3 11g tubing with 5/8 holes and close spacing for bench. You'll save a lot over Rogue, especially if you live near a fitness Depot and lots of companies make accessories that will fit it.

For bars Cap beast and the boss barbells are pretty decent and you can find them for under $150. the boss with no center knurl is available as an Amazon warehouse deal for $120 right now. I've bought lots of my stuff from warehouse deals, including my cap beast bar. Usually it's just damaged packaging, or minor cosmetic damage.

Bells of Steel and strongarm sports have good bars if you're willing to jump up to the $300 range. Rogue bars end up in the $450+ range for us, so might not be in the budget right now. I would probably go with the cap bar right now to save money, it'll make a good back-up, or beater bar in the future.

For plates you can find cast iron for under $1 per pound new. If you're worried about noise rubber coated aren't that much more and don't make nearly as much noise when you're loading and unloading them. Bumpers are nich, but may be out of your budget. I've ended up with a mix of all three kinds.

Cable machine- one of these will hold you off for a while , or use exercise bands. For exercise bands they all seem to be similar, so find the best deals.

Landmine- get whatever cheap one will work for you, or wrap one end of a barbell Ina towel and wedge it in a corner.

synergee collars are affordable and work really well.

Horse stall mats are definitely the way to go.

Adjustable dumbbells- I'm using Olympic dumbbell handles and I like them, but lots don't like that style due to the bulk and collars not being quite as secure. Iron dumbbells and powerblocks are the two most recommended. Ironmaster are more solid and feel the most like normal dumbbells and powerblocks are quicker to change weights with. If you go with powerblocks make sure you get a model that can be expanded.

I also like those.

I don't like the spring clip style.

I got these OSO imitation collars off of Amazon and I freaking love them.

https://www.amazon.com/Greententljs-Barbell-Aluminum-Release-Professional/dp/B01KI2DZJM/ref=sr_1_22?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1484343767&sr=1-22&keywords=oso+collars

They don't move at all and are cheaper than the OSO brand ones.

Thanks for the advice.

These ones look too small or am I crazy?

These are the right size?

u/unidentifies · 1 pointr/homegym

I’ve got THESE and haven’t had an issue yet. I like them.

You could try a lower bar squat. It's a bit tricky, but you won't need the pad if it's low enough.

PS My gym has these, which I like more than the metal ones, which rust out and get harder and hard to get on the bar: https://www.amazon.com/Proloc-Standard-Olympic-Barbell-Collars/dp/B01GOI2TUK/ref=sr_1_96?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1482426726&sr=1-96&keywords=olympic+barbell+clamps

They're way more expensive, though, I'm only linking them because I like them so much :S

Some kinds of barbell collars might be a worthwhile design to look into. The kind that wrap around the cylinder and provide a lever arm to pretension and lock it into place(like this) would be my choice. There's also the kind that slide onto the end and are tightened by a screw with a lever in it(like this).

Figure out what loads you need to support and try to estimate the clamping pressure required.

These make those 1" adjustable dumbbells much less of a pain in the ass to adjust: https://www.amazon.com/YYGIFT-Diameter-Barbell-Locking-Barbells/dp/B00XDSADTY/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1466444504&sr=1-1&keywords=yygift+1%22+locking

I use some cheap 1" adjustables from Amazon for assistance work, like db pressing, flyes/raises, curls, etc.

The olympic dumbbell handles are great for rows, though. Just too long for much other stuff, I found.
