I love my witch hazel toner. It’s used after cleansing and before moisturizing.

As I understand, it balances your PH and gets rid of anything your cleanser missed.

I bought reusable face pads to apply it.

omg!! toners = life for me
I once was a dehydrated, overexfoliated mess. I started using every moisturizing product under the sun and my skin loved it. I repaired my moisture barrier and everything was great. Until it wasnt. Suddenly every cream or serum made my skin clogged and breakout. Even the same exact products my skin once loved. I was so sad. I loved my multi step routine and suddenly anything beyond just cleansing and toning (western toners) made me break out.

Then I came here and asked for help and ta-daa!! I was introduced to the world of AB toners. Yesssss my multi step routine has been back in full swing ever since and consists almost entirely of toners.

So without further ado (sorry, these are not all AB but I wanted to include everything)

Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence Watery texture. I love this product. At first, I was unsure it was doing anything. I was only using it once a day and didnt notice much. Until I stopped using it and noticed that not only did I lose a certain glow in my skin, but also my following products didnt absorb the same way. I now use it twice a day and love it.

Hada Labo Gokujun Moist Thin serum texture. Really good product. Its kinda thick for my skin (again, my skin will clog up really easily from too heavy of product) so I cant use it everyday, but if I am extra dry for some reason or accidentally overdo it with actives, this will resolve my issues literally overnight. Always good to have around. Considering trying the light version.

SAEM Urban Eco Harakeke Light gel texture. OMG my favorite toner. It has the most amazing herbal smell, makes my skin feel refreshed and plump but not sticky. Calms any redness or irritation. So nice, I use this twice a day.

Thayers Witch Hazel Cucumber Watery texture. I know this is a western toner and a lot of people have VERY mixed reviews on it. But for my oily skin, it is awesome. Keeps my oil in check, and the cucumber is so refreshing and calms redness and breakouts. I would not however recommend this for dry skinned folks.

Caudalie Vinoperfect concentrated brightening essence Watery texture. Another one of my all time faves. This is an "exfoliating" type, as it contains glycolic and lactic acids. But it is suuuper gentle. Keeps my skin texture balanced and bright. My skin responds very well to this product. I use it on off days of when I use my stridex, just in case (I dont want to go back to that over exfoliated life)

Pyunkang Yul Essence Thin serum texture. I see this one getting a lot of love here and Im so glad because this stuff is definitely awesome. Makes my skin feel hydrated, has a short list of ingredients and gives my skin a certain kind of bounce. Love this one.

Whamisa Green Tea Serum Toner Serum-ish consistency. OMG loooove this toner. It contains alcohol so I would probably not recommend it for dryer skin. But again, me and my oilyness love it. Its soothing, hydrating, feels great, dries well, and my skin was responding so well to it that I upped it from once a day to twice a day and have had great results.

Toners on my wish list:
Secret Key Milk
Want so badly to venture into the Sulwhasoo life but muh goodness they are expensive and The Balancing Water Ex that is highly recommended has a lot of the same ingredients I am getting elsewhere in my routine. Eh, someday.

Lastly, here is a thread I posted last week asking for thoughts on some of the more expensive toners. With my love of toners, I was curious to hear experiences as to whether the prices are worth it or not.

Happy toning!

Six month empties check in! The link to my spreadsheet where I maintain my collection is above. The first three sections are empty/ gone from the collection, and are labeled as such. Below the "COLLECTION" banner, is my entire makeup collection, including the products that have been emptied or destashed.

Some things to note before we dive in:

I failed to keep some items, so there are a couple of gaps from the spreadsheet to the photos. Specifically, the Smashbox eye primer, I failed to keep, so for the purpose of the photos, used my full bottle.
A couple of dates might look odd-- specifically, finishing two highlighters within a day of each other. I was using them both simultaneously, topping Opal with Pearl. If any other dates look odd, this is usually the case. I’ve only recently begun trying to use a product from start to finish, compared to flitting between products as I felt like doing so.

I have sensitive skin and was told alcohol seriously dries skin out more than anything. These kill two birds with one stone: Astringent and exfoliation (+Aloe Vera) http://www.amazon.com/Thayers-Original-Witch-Astringent-Formula/dp/B00028PFF0

Edit: Apparently it has alcohol in it ... but at least it's a very low percentage and acts as a preservative.

u/suzypepper · 9 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

OKAY I read something here the other day where someone was wetting their face after putting on a retinoid in order to put their moisturizer on damp skin. I have been doing this too - about 20 minutes after putting on Differin, I very slightly touch my face with wet hands, and then put on moisturizer. IS THIS WRONG. Can someone please confirm or deny the whole wetting face after retinoid thing? Thanks in advance :3

Edit: Also! I asked this question in the last Stupid Questions but it didn't get an answer so I'll re-ask and hope nobody minds. :') What is witch hazel distillate and can I use it instead of my Thayer's witch hazel toner? I just want to make MY OWN toner and Thayer's inclusion of tocopherol makes me nervous because it may or may not break me out. Examples of (alcohol-free) witch hazel distillate: here, here.

Check out Humane BHA 2% Salicylic Acid Toner....It's only $17 on Amazon and just as effective, I'll attach a link. I never loved Paulas because of the weird residue it left on my skin. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DMLS7DK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Cleanser

  • Tom's of Maine Sensitive Body Wash ^CosDNA - Probably a no go for you, since it has sunflower oil, but it's a gentle and effective cream cleanser. When I don't want to bother with 2-step oil cleansing, I put it on my dry face a minute before I get in the shower.
  • Tom's of Maine Baby Body Wash + Shampoo ^CosDNA - My 2nd cleanser for oil cleansing.

    Toners

  • Kikumasamune Sake Skin Lotion High Moisture ^CosDNA - All the Ceramides of Cerave, none of the silicones or fatty alcohols.
  • Straight Up Rose or Lavender Hydrosol

    Moisturizers

  • Scinic Honey All-In-One Ampoule ^CosDNA - It's 90% honey extract, which has 50% stronger humectant activity than glycerine.
  • Hada Labo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist ^CosDNA - Cheapest + most effective HA serum I've tried. Nice, simple ingredient list.

    Sunscreen

  • Cerave Baby SPF 45 ^CosDNA - The ONLY water-resistant physical sunscreen that doesn't make my skin freak out. No dimethicone and <1% Cetyl Alcohol (after the preservatives on the ingredients label); still has the ceramides and niacinimide of the adult formula.

I used Thayer’s witch hazel for a while then discovered the cheaper Dickinson’s witch hazel toner and have never looked back! Have you tried the hydrating toner made by Dickinson’s? I love it! It’s alcohol-free and would therefore be more gentle on your skin than the one with alcohol. If you haven’t already, try a bottle! The alcohol may be drying your face out and making it easier for bacteria to penetrate into your skin and cause mild acne.

u/nerisella · 6 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Exactly. And the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ is one of my HG no fuss, no frills, daily moisturizers for my dry skin. It also has a few "meh" to "bad" ingredients (like dyes) that I put up with because they don't bother me in particular.

If you're looking for a hydrating toner that's great IMHO then this is my favorite one.

Ingredients: "Vor-Mag™ Water, Glycerin (Vegetable), Sodium PCA, Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice, Potassium Sorbate and Rosa Damascena (Hydroessential Rose). Water that has been vortexed and magnetized to raise the energy to a higher vibration that we believe to be more beneficial."

u/Hurricane_Alice · 6 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Perhaps it's the grapefruit seed extract that irritates my skin (since I tend to be able to tolerate the other ingredients), but I don't get the same irritation with the The Homestead Company witch hazel which has the following ingredients:

99.85% Witch Hazel distillate (natural plant derived), .15% Benzoic Acid (mild preservative)

u/Bah15362 · 6 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

As other's said it can itch and burn at first. Melazepam is stronger than others like GOW's or The Ordinary's 10%.

I started with one of those mixed with my moisturizer. I use either Hydro boost gel cream or meishoku ceracolla perfect gel and squalane. After a good time of that i now use it right after washing before toner.

With face redness it seems to be mostly about being soothing and gentle. I'm to the point now where i don't use soap to wash my face because the gentlest stuff was adding irritation redness.

I have also seen redness reduction using KLAIRS Supple Preparation Unscented Toner or Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner , Cosrx Snail 96, and SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Asiatica 100 Ampoule.

The redness battle is real. Of course sunlight is a major factor. If you do have rosacea some sunlight helps but then there's a "rebound" effect.

Still thinking about it myself but urea and sulfur are usually recommended too.

u/aquajack6 · 6 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Skinlex 10% niacinamide

Pond's Clarant b3 cream. Percentage is not released, but since niacinamide is the 2nd ingredient, I like to think that it makes up at least 4-5%. I've seen cheaper prices at Walmart and Target.

Benton Snail Bee High Content Skin, this is a watery toner, it has a very watery consistency. I find it hydrating and seems to help inflammation and break outs.

Benton Snail Bee Essence. This is a bit more expensive, but still very nice. I haven't repurchased since finding Skinlex, Skinlex is definitely a favorite.

edit: This is my favorite mist that has niacinamide relatively high on the ingredient list. This is a very hydrating facial mist, I love it.

u/tangface · 5 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

OP, your skin sounds similar to mine and for the longest time I couldn't figure out what to use/do to hydrate my skin. I've been tying out Asian skincare brands/methods and have found a huge success in using a hydrating toner with the Korean 7 skin method. It's basically taken a toner and layering it on your face as many layers (or skins) as you need after cleansing.

I haven't had any issues with these two:
Hada Labo Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion
Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner

The Hadalabo lotion has a thicker consistency so it takes a bit longer for the skin to absorb vs the Pyunkang Essence is of a thinner consistency. If you end up doing this method in the future, I would suggest choosing toners that do not have water listed as the first ingredient.

Doing the 7 Skin method has basically changed my skin where now it's not dehydrated, less oily and not flake-y. I hope that's a bit helpful and unfortunately I don't have any advice or suggestions on rough skin texture. Best of luck!

Yes. I've had psoriasis since I was 17, I'm 25 now and it's been spreading that entire time. It's a bummer but I've learned not to let it get me down as much as I used to.

Unfortunately, /u/blackmarketbeagle is correct - because psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder, anything you do from the outside is only addressing flakiness and plaques. There are shots you can get from the dermatologist (enbrel, etc) that work wonders for some people but I've never tried them personally.

That being said, my current routine is working really well to keep the flakiness and plaques at bay on my face! I'm actually really impressed with the difference. I believe it is the Hada Lobo Gokyujyun Lotion, Benton Snail Bee Toner, Snail bee essence, and Steam Cream are making the biggest difference. I use the first three twice a day (in that order) and the steam cream only at night. My face has no more flakiness from the plaques and the redness is greatly reduced.

Other things that have helped are sunlight. Direct sun exposure works wonders. Also, salt water. It sounds super weird but swimming in the ocean cleared things up for a while too. I use this salt bar to cleanse in the shower. Also, coconut oil. :)

u/picklesforbrains · 5 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

The Thayers Witch Hazel has been calling me for a long time. My skin is oily and I'm concerned about some the ingredients adding unnecessary moisture at best or being comedogenic at worst (Vit E.)
I was looking at this one with fewer ingredients. What do you think SCA?

99.85% Witch Hazel distillate (natural plant derived), .15% Benzoic Acid (mild preservative)

vs Thayers

Purified water, aloe barbadensis leaf juice (certified organic filet of aloe vera), glycerin (vegetable), hamamelis virginiana (THAYERS proprietary un-distilled witch hazel) extract, citric acid, citrus grandis (grapefruit) seed extract, and tocopheryl (vitamin E) acetate.

I'm not a doctor, so if you've been prescribed tret, I would talk with your doc before adding any additional products. That said, if your skin can handle it and your doctor doesn't tell you not to, you could try adding AmLactin. Retinoids and AHAs [are different chemicals] (https://phamix.com/2008/12/alpha-hydroxy-acids-or-retinol-which-is-best) so it's possible adding one would do something slightly different for your skin.

In terms of how many products you can use, it's entirely up to you. I use anywhere from 2 to 8 or 9 products at once layered /r/AsianBeauty style, including mixing (NON-prescription strength) retinoids with an AHA. On a normal day I just use glycolic acid + CeraVe (2 products). But on a weekend evening before bed, I'll take a bath using [zinc soap] (https://www.amazon.com/DermaHarmony-Pyrithione-Zinc-ZnP-Soap/dp/B00MWB0ZGE/ref=sr_1_5_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1493411293&sr=8-5&keywords=zinc+soap) and [physically exfoliate] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007IAE5WY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) in the tub, spray my skin with a [low-Ph toner] (https://www.amazon.com/Cosrx-Clarifying-Treatment-Toner-150ml/dp/B00OZ63ODA/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1493411340&sr=1-2&keywords=mizon+aha+bha+toner), apply a [Vitamin C serum] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00THEGVCG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1), then an [AHA gel] (https://www.amazon.com/Paulas-Choice-Resurfacing-Treatment-Exfoliant/dp/B00DH21DBS/ref=sr_1_5_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1493411427&sr=1-5&keywords=paula%27s+choice+aha+gel), then some [Retinol Cream] (https://www.amazon.com/Retinol-Surge-Moisturizer-Cream-2-5/dp/B00OQQLNG4/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1493411480&sr=1-1&keywords=body+merry+retinol), then a [more moisturizing cream] (https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Moisturizing-Cream-Pump-Ounce/dp/B01CTRLLFE/ref=sr_1_3_s_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1493411504&sr=1-3&keywords=cerave+cream), then top it all off with an [occlusive] (https://www.amazon.com/Aquaphor-Advanced-Therapy-Ointment-Protectant/dp/B00IB0X5FS/ref=sr_1_1?srs=7301146011&ie=UTF8&qid=1493411531&sr=8-1&keywords=aquaphor) to seal in all that moisture. I might even throw an extra layer of or two of [moisturizing toner] (https://www.amazon.com/ORGANIC-ROSE-WATER-SPRAY-Uplifting/dp/B00YMMENPK/ref=sr_1_15_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1493411630&sr=8-15&keywords=rose+water+toner), [tea tree oil] (https://www.amazon.com/Pure-Tea-Tree-Essential-Oil/dp/B018J6KIBW/ref=sr_1_5_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1493411669&sr=8-5&keywords=tea+tree+serum), [snail gel] (https://www.amazon.com/Mizon-Snail-Recovery-Gel-Cream/dp/B00BQM3S3C/ref=sr_1_9_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1493411704&sr=8-9&keywords=snail+gel), or [honey ampoule] (https://www.amazon.com/SCINIC-Honey-Ampoule-Types-Whitening/dp/B00STAV016/ref=sr_1_9_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1493410839&sr=8-9&keywords=honey+cream) in there if I think my skin needs extra redness reduction. Is that excessive? Absolutely. But I put all that stuff on my face to make my skin happy, so I don't see why the rest of my body shouldn't be allowed to occasionally join the party.

I just bought this one after hearing good things over on skincareaddiction.

u/Luuminess · 4 pointsr/blackladies

From a young age i suffered from eczema, dry skin, sun damage, and cystic acne on my face which caused post inflammatory hyperpigmentation on my upper lip and some on my forehead. I was the girl with a 'mustache' for a long time :( I would sometimes use makeup which just ended up making my skin worse because my skin is very sensitive. At its worse, my skin was so bad I remember a boy that I liked said I looked like a monster because my nasty upper lip eczema was peeling and flaking off while the makeup that I applied on top of it was making it look 10x worse :,( /sobstory

Flash forward to today I don't wear makeup, I have no acne (other than the occasional forehead bump if I eat too much sugar), my skin is much more resilient to breakouts of any kind, and my hyper pigmentation is gone. I get compliments and questions but I usually don't recommend people do exactly what I do since everyone's skin problems are different but maybe you can take parts of my regimen and start experimenting. FYI started getting into a stricter regimen about 1 - 2 years ago noticed results about a month or two in and have been adjusting it over time to what it is now.

First of all HYDRATE. SERIOUSLY. I drink at least 96oz of water a day. This makes an incredible difference in your skin. If you don't do anything else, do yourself a favor get a 32 oz water bottle and drink. the. fuck. up.

Face Regimen:

  • Cleanse twice a day, in morning and before bed with Cerave cleanser. This is one of the best cleansers I've tried, the hype is real with this one. Sometimes at night if I'm feeling frisky I oil cleanse with coconut oil then use my regular cleanser, gives my skin a nice glow and makes it super soft.
  • Gentle chemical exfoliator only at night. I use this one. I previously used this daily but now I use it on and off if my skin feels like it needs it.
  • Provence Beauty Vitamin C serum morning and night from Amazon (absolute favorite thing I use everyday this really helps fight hyperpigmentation and gives my skin a nice glow. This serum is the best bang for your buck too since it lasts a long time)
  • Retinol serum only at night. I actually started using this because I had some sun damage on my face and I could see faint fine lines starting around my mouth which scared me since I'm only 26! Used this daily for about 5 - 6 months and those lines are gone. Now I only use this every now and then because this shit is expensive and not necessary all the time.
  • Moisturize. I use Cerve Moisturizing Cream. It's aite might try something new soon though.
  • Sunscreen DAILY. Make sure you use a good sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. I previously used this tinted sunscreen it protects my skin well and gives my skin a nice finish but I've since switched over to Sun Bum and I LOVE IT. Smells great, lightweight, feels smooth, and it isn't compromised if I start sweating!

My skin is not perfect, but it's a complete 180 from where I started. BTW I also got a ton of knowledge from r/SkincareAddiction when I first decided to stick with a regimen, I would start there for more in depth info!

I currently use Mario Badescu (it’s really cheap) and my naturally pretty pink/red tone has reduced sooo much! but I’ve heard this is great too so it’s next to try on my list

Lol

Toners:

• Fresh- Rose Deep Hydration (the one I’m currently using)

• Klairs- Supple Preparation Facial Toner (great for layering, you can almost get a serum-y effect)

• Pyunkang Yul- Essence Toner (also layerable)

Out of the three toners, the fresh one is the most water-y feeling. However, you can’t use it as a serum-y or mask like product because of that. It doesn’t lend itself to layering if you want to do a quick super burst of hydration.

Moisturizers (specifically watery or gel-like feeling, not heavily occlusive; please bear in mind that these are over $50 and boogie af but I love them, if you’d like heavier recommendations please let me know):

• Tatcha- The Water Cream (the lightest and most watery out of all of them)

• Fresh- Rose Deep Hydration (~$40)

• Drunk Elephant- Protini (gel-like but still fairly water-y)

• Sunday Riley- Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream (also fairly watery, it comes in smaller ~$20 size if you want to make a smaller purchase before fully investing)

Again, sorry the moisturizers were expensive. The better water-y and gel-like moisturizers that I’ve found and liked for oily skin were always on the more expensive side. If you test them (you can get free samples from your local Sephora for almost any product) and find that you need something heavier, please let me know! Also, sorry if the formatting sucks. I’m trying to link and do this all on my phone.

I'm a hyaluronic acid gal, but here are a few hydrating toners I LOVE:
secret key - aloe

pyunkang yul essence toner

muji milk . . . this might have HA in it.

u/weavesunlight · 3 pointsr/AsianBeauty

just making sure! (i also felt like i was using a lot of cosrx products before i stopped using the cleanser, cause it was a bit drying for me)

This is actually the toner i was talking about. Not a mist.

it goes after your actives, as the first hydrating layer. you can do a few if you'd like. sometimes i'll do one layer of hydrating toner prior to acids, just as a gentle buffer (my skin gets overexfoliatied pretty easily)

and vaseline is definitely an option. i use aquaphor because i love the lanolin. but when i do I use like a pea sized amount (or less) and warm it between my fingers. it doesn't feel too greasy or heavy. the cerave is the most cosmetically elegant of the options & definitely feels lighter. it also has a nicer finish because of the silicones in it. it is definitely a heavy moisturizer feel though. i don't mind my face being a bit greasy at night.

sometimes i'll mix some in with my moisturizer to give it a bit more occlusive-ness. or to beef up my morning products. that helps lighten the thickness of it.

you might want to look at something like the rosette ceramide gel.

Weekly:

This face wash
Mon,
Tues,
and Wed morning and night.
Then normal,
mild soap Thurs,
Fri,
Sat. Then the saylic wash again Sun morning, followed by
this saylic acid peel for four minutes (and no more! You'll burn yourself!) Wash acid away with cold water. This made deep, dark acne scars disappear over the span of two years (but started in as little as a few weeks) and cured chronic hormonal adult acne where no medicine or soaps would otherwise. I swear by it now.

Daily:

Wash face, apply toner, let dry. Then apply hyaluronic acid serum on damp skin and pat thoroughly, let dry. Then apply retinol serum and let dry. Lastly, apply the best can't-go-wrong moisturizer to top it all off, let dry, and get on with your day.

Seems like a lot, but I had to embark on a "fix your fucked up skin" routine a few months ago, and I gotta say, this routine has done the trick. My pores are tiny, my color is even, my skin is soft, wrinkles have either lessened or disappeared completely, and I feel healthy, and in reality it doesn't take any longer than about five minutes to do.

Oh, and wear sunscreen. Sun isn't bad... but a lot of sun is bad. 15 minutes is good. 50, not so much.

u/[deleted] · 3 pointsr/quityourbullshit

There's nothing gross about what we refine in our appearances! But that is exactly where I started when I had my "enough is enough" moment. This blog post really helped me get a rein on it, and 6 months later my skin is virtually flawless so it works!

As for products, since there are a lot and it seems like a bit much upfront. I recommend

Cleanser 2-Step (Oil to lift makeup and debris, foam to completely clean face)

  1. The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Foam (150 mL/5.0 Oz) & Light Cleansing Oil (150 mL /5 Oz) Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SUZWGHM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_RcMVBbZWGQB0R

  2. Microdermabrasion Exfoliator (remove debris clogging pores)
DRMTLGY Microdermabrasion Facial Scrub and Face Mask. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076KYPY23/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_udMVBbRKR035V

If you would like, a toner can be added in place of the exfoliator on days that you do not exfoliate.

  3. BHA (Reduce pore oil production)
COSRX Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol, 100ml https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V4JPXO4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_1eMVBb36B2C7R

(Optional: if you look around, you can find products called "serums" and "essences" to Target specific problem areas. They are typically pretty expensive as they are highly concentrated)

  4. Mask (lock-in moisture and allow serums/essence to penetrate)

And that's about it. You also generally want to do them in that order. It sounds like a lot, but all that will run you perhaps $50 for a 2 month or so supply, depending on your use.

I can certainly attest to how powerful a combination they are though, I almost shudder to think of wearing makeup most days now. My skin feels so clear for the first time in my life that I realize it's unnecessary, and anyone can have that with a little effort!

    Good luck 😘😘

HG face wash that cleans well but is not drying at alllll/super gentle, and is well-priced for quantity, AND foams without sulfates:

Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam (Amazon)

Also Kiku is absolutely my love. I would have trash trash skin without it. Helps with PIH, dry skin, oily skin, balances drying from acids, good all year round, quick absorbing, nice as primer too tbh.

Both of these things have made a world of difference because my skin spirals downwards really quick if I take either of these two out, as I have sadly learned twice last year.

Other random products:

  • Heritage Store Rosewater & Glycerin (Amazon) - Another HG product I like to use after applying everything, and then just mist my face; leaves skin supple and bouncy; also works as primer; nice throughout the day too
  • Heritage Store Rose Petals Rosewater Facial Toner Alcohol Free (Amazon) - Almost exactly as top, but not as sticky/supple
  • CeraVe PM Lotion - I like to use this as a substitute for Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformer
u/idlehen · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use niacinamide products to prevent PIH. I also found this quite helpful in preventing PIH too. You can get it for almost half the price if you buy it from Korean retailer but it'll take longer to get to you.

I put together this guide some time ago

I also keep a tub of these in the car to soothe my face on the drive home

u/glitterbrain · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Oh my gosh, you HAVE to get this, because Bomb Cosmetics stuff is amazing. You can have a nice relaxing bath after your first day of work, woop-di-woop.
I would love this, because I have horrible skin right now and need help.

Congratulations on getting a new job (:

For acne: Everyday after gently scrubbing your face try out some Thayers Witch Hazel w/ Aloe Vera, then a light spray of rose water. It did wonders for my skin. https://www.amazon.com/Thayers-Witch-Hazel-Original-Astringent/dp/B00017OV9S

https://www.amazon.com/Garnier-SkinActive-Facial-Spray-Water/dp/B073QPMFPC/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=rose+water+spray&qid=1570401006&sr=8-2

If that fails you, try some African Black Soap (another amazing product) https://www.amazon.com/s?k=african+black+soap&ref=is_s

The giant bumps will stay noticable until they are drained. You wont have a scar as long as you give a light poke at the surface with a sterile 20g piercing needle then give a gentle squeeze. Don't pick any scabs or you will expose the new skin and that will make it oxidize and darken. Let scabs fall off with time.

Hope this helps :)

u/curlyginger55 · 2 pointsr/amiugly

You’re pretty cute. Don’t listen to anyone who doesn’t have curly hair. Your hair rocks, and what would help is if you shortened the sides and put a soft gel in the top to make the curls stand out without getting frizzy. I use Cantu Define & Shine gel - it’s like $5 or so, which is pretty cheap and you don’t need much at all so it’s worth a try.
As for skin care, you’re right, it’s hard. Your skin isn’t that bad though. You don’t seem to have scarring. Maybe try using an acne face wash with benzoyl peroxide (helps with whiteheads) and a hydrating tonerhydrating toner or a light, non-comedogenic lotion (won’t clog pores) . Only need to do it once a day, twice if your skin is oily. I think the mistake people make is doing TOO much. My skin looked similar to yours and that’s what helped me.

**Skin type and skin concerns:**

Main concerns: Dryness, acne (cystic and general acne all over chin and cheeks), and splotchy discoloration all over my face (my dermatologist said it was melasma). My skin is consistently congested and breaking out, yet my entire face is sensitive, dull, itchy and flakey. After years of reading tips here, I've finally gotten to the point where redness and the majority of flaking is gone and products don't burn when they touch me, but my skin remains dull and feels tight.

While the products I've selected are relatively affordable, they add up. Plus I'm worried I'm doing more damage than good by overwhelming my skin with all these product. Mostly though, I'm so jealous of all your minimalist routines I see on here, and I want to create one that would work for me. I don't know where to start. What are your thoughts?

    **Daily behaviors possibly impacting skin:**

My diet is crap. While I don't eat a lot of processed food, I eat too much sugar, too much oily and fatty foods, too much red meat and not enough vegetables. Because of my family, it's going to be difficult to make adjustments, and honestly I'm not sure where to start. Caffeine consumption is pretty high, while I only have the occasional coffee, I drink a TON of green tea and oolong tea. Water intake is fair, and I usually refill my 32oz water bottle 2 times a day (yes, I have to run to the bathroom at least every 30 minutes). I pretty much stopped wearing makeup a little over a year ago, now I only wear for special occasions and the occasional eye liner.
u/PM_ME_YOUR_CHRISTMAS · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

It's not AB, but I love using CeraVe PM as my moisturizer under makeup. It plays very well with my makeup and my sunscreens.

When I'm in a time crunch and need a routine that dries quicker than my usual routine, I use ampoules instead of a regular moisturizer. On days that I do that, this is what my routine is before sunscreen/primer/makeup:

u/farmgirlfromscratch · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

You're welcome. I think both kikumasamune pink bottle and kikumasamune white bottle both lighten skin. But the white bottle has super lightening powers because it has arbutin in it

kikumasamune white

u/ayimera · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Do you use a sunscreen? Because with tret that is your #1 priority. I personally use a lightweight emulsion like this under my moisturizing sunscreen.

u/heartinflames · 2 pointsr/happy

Such a journey! And so important to recognize that you gotta keep learning forever XD

I just use toner and moisturizer!! my brand of choice

u/beautifulmacaroni · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

hmm I think it may have been discontinued (that's a shame, my favorite cream from the face shop was recently discontinued), but https://www.amazon.com/Skin-Food-Peach-Toner-Ounce/dp/B0030JAZOY may just do it!

u/caseyographer · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use the niacinamide mixed in with Cosrx snail essence at night.

I’m not sure if you mean the Cosrx aha/bha pH balancing toner, which is just glorified water imo. If you mean the Whitehead and Blackhead products, that makes more sense. I’m having trouble finding a bha I love as well. I don’t like Stridex, and would like to find something cheaper than PC.

There’s this random one I tried on Amazon (link). I’m weary of buying brands I’ve not heard of from Amazon, but it seemed to work and left no residue behind. I might go back to it if I decide I need something more powerful than the Cosrx.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE TONER OF ALL TIME- i found regular witch hazel to be too drying and i hated the smell of Thayers with rose water. i can usually find this Dickinson’s with Hyaluronic Acid at Walgreens. Seriously a game changer and not too drying on my skin for Chicago winter. I think i got my last bottle from target for around $6-8 and it lasts forever.

Dickinson's Enhanced Witch Hazel Alcohol Free Hydrating Toner, 16 Fluid Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KX32J26/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_cewwCb6MPZC1N

u/TrevTrev4Ev · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Heard good things about the Some By Mi AHA/BHA/PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner. There's also COSRX, and the Benton Aloe BHA Toner. Another option is to use an oil cleanser like the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil.

u/omshanti_fuckit · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Are you in US? The world is full of hydrating toners, and tbh I find Hado Labo to be good, but not game changing. Here are some I want to try that are on Amazon Prime:

Hado Labo Premium -- Supposed to be better than the Gokyujun and it's available on Amazon Prime.

Kikumasamune

Earth's Recipe -- K-Beauty blogger Fiddy Snails is all about this one, but it's expensive.

Whamisa Organic Flowers Toner -- This one got a good review on Skin and Tonics recently. Also expensive.

u/MisterPhalange · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty
u/Jjkolaid · 1 pointr/skincareexchange

I have stridex and I also have humane BHA pore minimized toner.

It looks like this

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01DMLS7DK/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8

Both are lightly used

u/peachiestpink · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I use rose water as a toner! I normally use the Poppy Austin one off amazon, but it's expensive when cotton squares eat up so much of it, so I just got this one (came in yesterday!) because it's twice as much for the same amount and is still organic. You can keep it in the fridge for more of a cooling effect but I'm lazy :p

Plus it's awesome being able to spritz some on your face when you're a bit dry, especially if you use moisturizers with humectants (beats standing over the humidifier lol).

But be prepared for that smell!! It does dissipate eventually, but if potent floral smells are a big issue for you, maybe not the best idea

u/ToxicXP · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Hey guys,
Although it is not that noticeable from the pictures in realty they appear worse. I have been trying on this routine for around two and a half weeks now but I am see insufficient improvement. Here is my schedule that I got from the awesome user skunkpaw who helped me get started.

My daily routine:

CosRx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser

Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner

Stridex Maximum Strength pads

Gold Bond Ultimate Restoring Lotion

These are pics after a shower and after putting on moisturizer and taking a nap the marks appear to be more subtle but I have an shinier/oily face.

u/Gayle54 · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

I spot it with the Cosrx A-sol:
https://www.amazon.com/Cosrx-Natural-Skin-Returning-100ml/dp/B00V4JPXO4/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1479053107&sr=8-1&keywords=cosrx+a-sol

And let that dry and then dot this on top of it (Tea Tree Therapy Antiseptic Cream):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZVS2M/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

For me, this makes the newly appearing pimple/bump go down almost immediately. If it's at night, I put a big blob of the tea tree cream on top of the A-sol and the blemish is usually pretty much gone in the morning.

Sure! A moisturizer that I use to use A LOT was

https://www.cleanandclear.com/moisturizers/morning-burst-hydrating-gel-moisturizer

It's a gel moisturizer so it means there's less residue left behind. It helped my skin with the oil. It's not perfect don't get me wrong, but it did help. It does have fragrance so I'm not sure it will bother you. This is more budget friendly.

Another one I use a lot right now is

https://www.amazon.com/Andalou-Naturals-Roses-Beautiful-Cream/dp/B00JEMRDQY

I like this one SO much more. It's lightweight but makes my skin feel great! It's helps repair my skin it has good ingredients. It's vegan and cruelty free. It's a little pricey it's $18 on Amazon in the store it's $25. You don't need much which is good. It's definitely something I recommend you try.

https://www.amazon.com/Thayers-Alcohol-Free-Witch-Formula-Unscented/dp/B001DJDP7C

The witch hazel that use. You can also buy the other brands too like Dickinson's they do have alcohol free ones too.

https://www.amazon.com/Dickinsons-Enhanced-Witch-Alcohol-Hydrating/dp/B00KX32J26

Maybe getting a sunscreen would be a good idea too. Or finding a makeup primer with spf or foundation.

These may or may not work for you. Everyone's skin is different. Good luck!

I have normal/oily skin. Im not prone to breakouts. I’m not sure what’s wrong with my skin. I’m very diligent with my skin care routine. It seems to be congested so I wanted to simplify things for now. I want to focus on evening out my skin tone and getting rid of dark marks and hyperpigmentation. The pores are my cheeks are very large too.

These are the products I’m currently using. I use these both in the morning and at night.

Cleanser: NARS purifying foam cleanser
https://www.narscosmetics.com/USA/purifying-foam-cleanser/0607845048022.html

Toner: Heritage Store Rosewater facial toner
https://www.amazon.com/Heritage-Store-Rosewater-Alcohol-btl-plastic/dp/B00MUTKN2O

(I just started using this a week ago because I read that all skin types can benefit from a hydrating toner. Before I was using neutrogena alcohol free toner.)

Moisturizer: Clean and clear dual action moisturizer
https://www.cleanandclear.com/moisturizers/essentials-dual-action-moisturizer

I would like to find a new moisturizer. I want one that’s lightweight since my skin tends to be oily. I don’t like gel moisturizers because they’re not moisturizing enough and creams are too heavy. At night, I’ll start using a facial oil again since fall is coming soon. I used rosehip oil in the past and I liked it.

u/BearOnALeash · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

If you want some relief until you can get to a dermatologist, this stuff works wonders. It's completely changed my face. My roommate is now hooked on it too (she has more severe acne with scarring). You just pat it on your face/skin like aftershave, after you wash your face.

I need some help routine troubleshooting! I have dry/sensitive skin, usually I don't break out too much - I get isolated pimples on my cheeks/forehead occasionally (which I've figured out is mostly because I have a tenedency to rest my head in my hands while I'm working/studying). Anyway, I started with the beginner routine and modified a little bit, I've been using my current routine for probably 6 or 8 months - nothing is new except for the face wash, but issues started happening before I changed face washes.

Anyway problems: 1) I've started getting closed comedones on my forehead, just above my left eye. 2) My skin has basically stopped getting better and I'm noticing that I'm breaking out more frequently. Is it hormonal because I'm getting old? No idea. 3) I still have a good bit of texture on my skin that looks really cruddy under my makeup.

Other general questions - suggestions as to things to add? I've found that I can't use glycolic acid things - my skin just doesn't agree with it at all.

What I do currently

AM:

  • 2% salicylic acid wipes (Clearisil)
  • moisturizer (CVS version of CeraVe PM)
  • Plus I shower in the AM so I hit my face with some water while I'm at it

    PM:

  • Cleanse - currently using this one because I needed something to tide me over since I discovered the cleanser I was using I can't find anywhere anymore.
  • Toner - currently using this one
  • Exfoliate w/ Pond Rejuveness (8% lactic acid)

And I use a BP spot treatment when I need it (Zapzyt, or something).
u/ohwowohkay · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Okay I'm a little weirded out lol I'll explain: I've been hemming and hawing about repurchasing the rose water I've been using (this one, which shot way up in price and it's no longer available anyway) but I've had my eye on that Cortas one because of the price per oz being the best deal compared to the other rose water toners on Amazon... And then I see this post. I'm putting it in my cart right now! It's my only "unconventional" skincare product. I spritz it on my face before applying any moisturizing products. I just find that I like my face to be moist so the products glide and don't drag at all. Plus I also find it soothing to my redness prone skin.

u/Waffle-Stomps · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Perhaps you should cleanse at least every night to get rid of that excess oil. Since you have oily skin, I would use a BHA (in the morning if you get no irritation). If your skin will still get oily every hour, perhaps use an astringent after dabbing the oil off your face. I think Thayer's Original would be a popular choice.

u/MRK-01 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

ok thanks i will try using my hand for a while and see what happens. Idk if it should buy a whole new toner to hydrate my face of if the one i have atm are fine since i bought them earlier this month. Is the Hada Labo Lotion Moist different from most American toner?

for example: https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Alcohol-Oil-Free-Toner-8-5/dp/B000U5O650/

I always thought toners were used to just remove extra dirt/grime off of your face. Is the Hada Labo toner more of a moisturizer? Do you apply it the same way (using a cotton square, etc)?.

Several posts on this sub sold me on the Whamisa Organic Flowers Deep Rich Essence Toner, so I went for a look and found it on Amazon at [this link] (https://www.amazon.com/Whamisa-Organic-Flowers-Skin-Toner/dp/B01N7P9N8I). The price seemed really fair, especially given it comes with samples. Reviews are largely good though there's always one that claims it's inauthentic.

The company claims to be an authorized seller of Whamisa and several other AB brands but I'm not sure what to think so if anyone has had experience with CrediThink (which kind of sounds like a weird credit card scam lol), please let me know!

Edit: Also that Amazon bottle is 300 mL with samples for $38.99 while Glow Recipe sells a 120 mL bottle for $40?? Dead giveaway for shady business or a bizarrely great deal??

u/LavishPuddin · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Skinfoods peach sake toner has been really good for my oily/acne skin and it smells sooo good my mouth waters.

I would get a moisturizer with snail in it. It will really help heal the leftover marks from acne. Something like Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream could be a good place to start. You could do a snail essence/serum/ampoule but you really should use a moisturizer somewhere in your routine.

Also, it's not skincare related but Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder is really wonderful for oil control throughout the day.

Don't try everything at once! If you react badly to something (as acne prone people often do) you won't know what it's from. Good luck :)

I need trouble shooting help with my new benton products.

I got samples of both the Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence and Benton Snail Bee High Content Toner and found that they both worked great on my skin. So after about two weeks of good results, I purchase full size bottle.

Another week in I start breaking out like crazy! My skin is pretty clear as long as I keep it moisturized, so when I got three giant white heads I freaked!

So now I am just using The Face Shop Arsainte Eco-Therapy Moisturizer only on my face and have seen a great improvement. No more pimples, the new ones emerging have done down. Even the discoloration is going away.

Now I have really dry skin, so was it a fluke that the samples worked well but the full bottle didn't? How do I go about figuring out which product might be bad? Should I get the Benton Snail Bee High Content Steam Lotion to go with the rest of the set to make it work out well?

Please help r/asianbeauty! You're my only hope!!
