I think you could DEFINITELY publish it under romance. Just get a really classy cover, make it full-length (at least 40k or more) and try to put some kind of emotional connection into.

The Tortoiseshell Mirror by Tang. Unfortunately, the author took it down at some point and made it a paid story on Amazon, but still worth a read.

The Warrior of Hir series by Willow Danes is good
The Zyrgin Warrior series by Marie Dry I really liked at first but got kind of bored with after the first two books
The Alien Abduction series by Eve Langlais
