It's a lobster trap bouy light. They are cheap.

checkmate

Fishing hooks that are designed to look like flies have been around for a while, they mimic real flies and are used as bait to catch fish. So technically the flies are fishing.

The tubing that I have has 3/16 inner diameter and 5/16 outer diameter. Basically this on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GXXZGGU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_CP74CbNCBEBZ5

This

It is this on this. You can also use a 3" on a 1/8 oz jig, but you won't get as many bites from the little ones like the rock bass. The big ones bite on both small and big.

You just cast it out there and draw it back. If you have a boat, you can troll it behind you. The bait really doesn't have to hit the bottom. The fish will gobble it up no matter what.

You will catch red-eye (rock bass) and smallmouth in the greenbrier river. Stop by Pence Springs tomorrow (Sunday) for some shopping as it's the weekly flea market. There is a gas station (exxon) called country roads store that sells top notch hotdogs.

edit: every store sells these jigs around there. Drive on in to Alderson and there's a nice little bait store, but the gas stations have stuff too around there.

edit2: if you insist on live bait, use hellgrammites. The fish go for deeper water during mid day, so find big deep holes. Boats are best to use, but you can't put anything big in. This is a nice hole.

edit3: if you have a canoe, you can set in at Alderson and float down as far as you want. The reason you need a canoe is because there are shallow parts you can't get a Jon boat through.

edit4: It's called fishing, not catching. We all have slumps. Hang in there, and start early. mid-day fishing is always bad.

I don't think people use fly larva for fishing. Are you thinking of bee moth larva?

I usually use trout magnets. I have caught tons of fish on the various colors but if I fish with line above 4lb I notice I have a hard time catching them. I tend to catch more when I fish with 2 lb line.

Thank you for the help. I'm going to be getting the following. Can you let me know if this will work or what you would change. I am still going to get a few lures from the bait shop but i think it's good to have a variety of things. Please let me know if I'm wrong on that and wasting my money. I read a thing that 90% of fishing lures are to attract people not fish so I might be sucked in lol. Thanks again for the help.

Can you describe the dam and where you will be fishing more? First off id like to start with there are almost no cardinal rules. There are preferred methods, but nothing in fishing is black and white or 100%. Fishing that spot below the dam should be treated like fishing any other type of water in my opinion. Do you know what kind of fish might inhabit these waters? Without a picture, and just guessing there's going to be 3 "parts" of the water in front of you. There will be the turbulent part, probably the deepest where the water is crashing into the spillway. Then there will be a deep section after this that's kind of like a pool, and after that the water probably shallows out and turns into a river or stream. Its always advisable to fish with the current. This simulates bait fish being washed through or swimming downstream which is what most ambush predators will be waiting on. Its the most natural presentation. However you can absolutely fish against the current and catch fish. There's pros and cons to both. Fishing with the stream, like i said appears the most natural, however there's a higher chance of getting stuck because the water will be pushing your bait into and under debris and rocks. it will also be more difficult with lures and spinners to achieve the correct action because you'll have to reel pretty quickly to overcome the current. Opposite, if your going against the current you can almost let your lure or spinner sit in the current suspended without reeling because the moving water will be doing most of the work for you. Id focus on that 2nd part of the water id described. The part after the turbulent water, the pool area. That's where most things will be sitting in wait for bait fish. Fish up, fish down, fish across it. Honestly, and i might be a little biased because its not my preferred method, but a jigging here may not be your best bet. If it were me, id be throwing Spinners, spoons, A Crank Bait or Jerk bait in there. I think the water situation here works against a jig. a Paddle Tail Swim Bait with a little weight might do awesome here. Id be simulating bait fish while trying to reduce my chances of getting hung up. All this being said though is based on me picturing your situation as being somewhat similar to this

I would just look up fishing lures on amazon, they have tons of variety ,usually in sets of around 4, for pretty cheap. They do have some plastics but you can usually get ok and cheap ones from Walmart.

Example: LotFancy 30 PCS Fishing Lures Crankbaits with Treble Hook Topwater Baits, Bass Minnow Popper Walleye Baits, Length From 1.57 to 3.66 Inches https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JB14M7Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_yc3UBbH4DG3HW

They sell underwater green led lights that will run on a 12v usually lasts all night. I would get a couple. Bigger ones you need golf cart batteries or car batteries if you are not going to permanently place them. I can't attest to the quality of these in the link-

You can use stand up lights but you would need a generator to run them for a while, but they bring the bugs

Ended up receiving the Big Striper Lunker 10.0 Reel Tackle box!
I can say im fairly disappointed in numerous ways. Bought the most expensive striper box for 99.95 with a 10 off coupon. The baits and lures were pretty decent but not for the cost of a 100 bucks. Someone told me before purchasing it that he only got about 15 dollars worth of gear rather than 25 for the normal box but i was a little hopeful.

Picture of the box

Cotton Cordell: RED FIN $7.99

Storm Swimshad $7.00

Livingston Lures Pro Sizzle XXXShad $7.99

[Whopper Plopper130] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KS18STK/ref=twister_B01I28LYRE?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) $16.00

[Wahoo Bucktail 1oz] (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Wahoo-Fishing-Striper-Bucktail-Jig-1oz/17204547?action=product_interest&action_type=title&beacon_version=1.0.2&bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&client_guid=bccfb995-0a3c-412e-3406-73198aef8cd4&config_id=2&customer_id_enc&findingMethod=p13n&guid=bccfb995-0a3c-412e-3406-73198aef8cd4&item_id=17204547&parent_anchor_item_id=20630070&parent_item_id=20630070&placement_id=irs-2-m2&reporter=recommendations&source=new_site&strategy=PWVAV&visitor_id=U5ZdL_UOaRrBcTw-eVa124) These vary from $3.50-$7.00 depending on the store you go to.

Jenko Fishing Jenko Deep Diver CD20 Tropical Shad $10.00

[Husktie Tail Spinner] (https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/wordens-huskie-tail-spinner) $9.99

TLDR:
These were all the contents in the BIG STRIPER BOX for 99.95 from Reel tackle box.
I'm sure all these lures would work but im not sure if they would work in saltwater.
If added it comes to about 66 dollars. Ill just think that i spent 20 bucks on shipping. fair enough.

Go with a reputable tacklebox subscription service such as mystery/lucky/ or even Surfcasterbox which sponsors the NJ Poseidon Fishing Association.

Used this as more of an experience to see if it was a hidden gem and boy was i disappointed.

Would i recommend this tacklebox subscription Nope. Just my Two Cents Reddit!

thanks for your input. i've added the line you recommended and removed the sebile swimbait as well as the truscend.

one setup will be for bass and one for pike. i've upgraded the pike setup to support up to 1oz lures as it's getting too pricey with everything adding up to go any bigger. does this look ok for that?

Also I was looking at the swimbait you recommended and I see they're going to be heavier than what I'll be able to handle. Any other recommendations 1oz or under? Are these good?

This would be for bass I guess? Would like to get some smaller swimbait for bass as well, something that would work for pike and bass could be nice I suppose.
