This got me thinking about the stereotype that foutons are cheap and uncomfortable.

Turns out the most expensive fouton is $6k and plus af

Low budget is also light weight... which directly effects mpg. So...

Super light weight here in an e150 window van.

One sheet of 3/4” ply cut to go across the back as a bed and a second cut to act as a shelf on the wheel wells. I have all flat sterilite tubs of different sizes for all my things nearly organized.

I bought on of these too It’s very comfortable for me and i have serious back problems.

I have a nice cooler that holds 20lbs of ice for 4 days and a Weber Portable grill I keep things very simple.

For toilets? I use it at the grocery store, cafe, job, or gym. I DO have an emergency bucket with dust free cat litter and a cut pool noodle in the event of a for real case of the poops. Never had to use it.

I really enjoyed sleeping on a Japanese style futon for a few months and my daughter sleeps on it happily now. Couldn't sell my boyfriend on it, but would definitely recommend them to anyone :)

I bought this one for cheap from Amazon. I didn't want to spend too much just in case I hated it, but if I were to buy another one I would invest a bit more since I know I like them.

I found a bunch of inexpensive midcentury-modern style stuff for you. I hope you like it.

Even if you don't like the stuff I picked out, hopefully I gave you some places to get started. In addition to the stuff I showed you, I highly recommend you get some things that will add life and color to your room; namely, plants, wall art, and a rug.

The wood on the stuff I showed you matches your kitchen cabinets (from what I can tell), so your place will have a uniform feel. However, as I mentioned, it's the little things like plants that will really make your place shine!

As an alternative, you could try a futon. After a borderline-psychotic amount of research I actually went with a walmart futon for my small living room and I love it. It has multiple back/arm positions, doubles as a guest bed, and it's pretty comfy. It was $139 I believe. After a few months of daily usage it's still in great shape.

Just throwing it out there. Your space looks dope btw.

I used a futon frame similar to this for several years when I live in a place your size. I thought it was very versatile. As for the mattress itself ? Well, I'm one of the few people that can sleep on anything, so the fact that I used an inexpensive futon mattress and it didn't bother me might not be valid for you. Maybe someone here can help more.

I have that one, it is solid wood and comes unfinished. It would be easy enough to finish it how you would like. Its held up well with a 5 year old bouncing on it as well as some pretty good adult bouncing too...

Thank you! He's been making such leaps and bounds in growing up, but he hasn't regressed or pushed back about anything, so I don't think we're going too fast. He even loves his own room, although he has ended up in my bed at some point after midnight every time so far. It seems like he might be falling out of bed and that's what is waking him up, so maybe mattress rails will fix it. His bed was previously pushed against ours but he'd still fall out on the other side every now and again.

>What is a foldable mattress? I mean it seems obvious, but I've never seen such a thing?

I just stumbled across them since we're not quite ready to move 18m to his own room but I want my floor space back. Technically they are futon mattress that go on the floor. I'm looking at this one, but I'm not sure of it yet. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UMD881S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_fEJxDbJB7YARG

I like the idea of being able to use it as a "spare bed" once they're both in their room for real, too.

My cats claw allll my furniture, so I buy a new one of these once a year when it starts to look like an awful scratching post:

https://www.amazon.com/Homegear-Modern-Leather-Convertible-Seater/dp/B00XMXGP3S?th=1&psc=1

Cheap, easy to assemble, looks really nice with my minimalist set up in the living room, and is actually comfortable to sleep on.

Get yourself something like this. I have one in my guest room and it's pretty comfy. I sleep on it sometimes. There are tons of convertible sleepers on Amazon all prices. Check the reviews for comfort level. And this way your just getting a super practical piece of furniture, not a separate bed. The fact that it's basically gonna be your bed means nothing...

This is the one my husband and i are looking at. We are also moving out next year and want to get rid of our bed so I don’t have any experience with these yet but hopefully this helps somewhat.

Hey thanks for responding.

Actually ended up getting Classic Brands Classic 8-inch mattress (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073V5RM24?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf) is very comfy so far. Only had it a few weeks but girlfriend and I are happy with it

There are all kinds from mattress toppers to just sheets. If you're just trying to keep it clean, just buy a simple thin quilt, cut to size and add optional elastic straps at the corners. that's what's often used.

If you want to buy one, here's a fitted sheet for a Japanese futon: https://www.amazon.ca/EMOOR-Cotton-Fitted-Mattress-Japanese/dp/B07319PRNF?psc=1&SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duc12-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B07319PRNF

I bought a cotton futon mattress because it was cheap, and I could fit a California queen in the back of a Honda Civic. As back-sleeper, it has actually become the most comfortable mattress I have used.

LG Nexus 5x $175 Verizon

Samsung Galaxy Note 5. $260 obo Verizon

Has an issue with pen detection (a lot of them do), other than that it works fine. Have a couple cases to toss in with it.

I have this in a twin size for sleeping on the floor when it gets too hot, my wife is sick, I feel like a firmer sleep or if I just want to change things up a bit. I've had it for a little over a year and have used it probably 40-50 times - so it hasn't seen a TON of use, but it looks like it did the day I bought it (except for a bloody toeprint from a cat-related accident). 3" of padding is not that much though - I definitely feel the floor. Still, I wake up refreshed and have never had a sore back from it, so the support must be sufficient. I find it comfortable in a spartan sort of way, if that makes sense. It rolls up nicely and the straps are sewn on well. For the money it does what I need it to and, since I throw down a sheet and/or comforter on it (and under it), it hasn't gotten dirty. The j-life mattress on amazon definitely looks like a step up luxury-wise, but I'm expecting my matress to stay in good shape for decades and it rolls up nicely to fit in our bedroom closet. I'm very satisfied with it.

Oh - it's also AWESOME for camping if pack size isn't an issue. Way better than an air mattress and it's set up in a few seconds.

If you want to get a futon, I'd strongly recommend buying this frame and then buying a mattress for it separately. It folds up into a couch and back down into a bed really smoothly, and is quite comfortable. It's simple to put together and is easy to move around. I'd recommend it strongly over the frame you're considering, because those types of frames tend to be of poor quality and break easily, whereas this one is very sturdy and simple. No danger of the slats breaking unless you apply ridiculous amounts of force.
