tldr; Life got in the way.
Wife and I bought a house and during the renovations, literally everything went wrong. We're currently homeless and living in a friends spare room. If you've seen Money Pit, that's about where we're at.

It's crazy good for the money.
I picked up one of [these] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GTTGSDE) "Breaking 80" rangefinders and have been very happy with it.
Great price ($190ish depending on battery option you choose) and had some good reviews.
I tried to avoid the Bushnell's buy buying one of those cheap, $130 rangefinders like this one but quickly found out it was not a good idea. It couldn't find the pin and I could not trust the distance at all. I returned it after 2 rounds. I got a bushnell V3 this summer and have not doubted the distance since. Can you find something cheaper than a Bushnell that still is reliable? Probably, but do not go for the cheapest options because it seems to me like you do get what you pay for.

I haven't tried the slope function, but pin lock function is a must. (Almost every decent rangefinder has "pin lock" function.)

Bought the NX7 Pro Slope (Amazon link) rangefinder for $248 because the reviews say it's great and it's way cheaper than Bushnell. I've used it for a handful of rounds and love it so far! Easy to use, easy to switch between modes if you get the slope version, fast lock on, accurate yardage, everything. I highly recommend it!
I mean, part of that is also probably advertising and brand name. I haven't heard anythinga bout the breaking 80 range finders, but I have heard that Nikon makes a good one. The Coolshot 40 is a higher end model, but still less expensive then the bushnell.
