I don't know what you have access to in Iceland, but I've always had decent luck with Color Oops. It won't bring you back out to your natural blonde, but it should pull enough of the black out that you can take another stab at auburn.

I've also had success with One 'n Only Colorfix.

Since it's been a few months since the black dye went on, and it was so light before, you may even be able to get away with just bleaching it.

There is an AWESOME color remover called "Color Oops", you can buy it at places like Walgreens and such. Here's info from Amazon. You HAVE to follow the directions precisely for it to work. I was able to strip off semi-permanent (or permanent, can't remember now) black dye and get back to something semi-normal that I could then re-dye with something lighter.

It was the best thing ever. Totally saved me a trip to the salon!

Since your hair is dyed a dark colour, you will need to lift the colour somehow. I recommend using Color Oops a couple of times before reaching for the bleach because it's really gentle on hair and does a pretty good job of lifting. If you still can't get it light enough (and you will want it as light as possible), then go ahead and use bleach.

For the purple itself... what dye you buy will depend on which one you find that matches what you want. My hair is purple and I use Splat Lusty Lavender. Whatever you get, though, you will want to do the dying immediately after bleaching. Get your hair nice and dry and drench your hair in the stuff. It will stain EVERYTHING. I MEAN EVERYTHING. So cover your hands, wear old clothes, and cover the area you're dying in with an old towel. After that, try to take colder showers because it will help with the fading... every time you shower, it will look like you're squeezing grape koolaid out of your hair. The stuff is going to fade fast, no matter what you do, so just do what you can. I usually get about 5 weeks out of mine before I feel like I have to redye it, and by that time it's lavenderish.

Good luck! Purple hair is amazing.

Edit: Here's what it looked like right before I redyed it last time.

Is it a permanent dye? If not, you can use Color Oops! to get the dye out (I've seen it for sale at Walgreens before). I've also heard washing with dish soap will remove temporary dye faster than regular shampoo - but that could be untrue. I'd wait a few days, wash your hair several times, deep condition and see how you feel about the color after giving yourself a few days to get used to it. I think you're supposed to wait several days before coloring your hair again.

Remember the vaseline or stain shield next time. That sucks. Also, these are kind of cool.

Color theory is your friend. If you look up about painting with color theory all of it applies to hair color also. Green is the hardest color to get out of your hair. To neutralize it red will cover and look natural. Or you could go blue but would have a small green hint to it maybe. My favorite color line is artic Fox it covers the best in my opinion.

Also if you wanted to remove the green this would work the best: color remover

Or
this one
But I think the L’Oreal is better or works better for me.

do not enlighten it (bleach) your hair color is very light already and you will just add more damage to it. (I am not a cosmetologist but did go to school for 6 months before I had to leave due to nerve damage being too much when cutting)

L'oreal Effasol and Joico Colour Eraser are both on Amazon with prime shipping. If you buy either of them, I would recommend getting 2 packets because 1 will not be enough to cover your hair.

Honestly I had this same problem a few weeks ago, and did all of these things but none worked for me. I strongly recommend Color Oops, which is gentle on your hair and pretty much a lifesaver. It works best when a) used soon after hair dying (as in, not six months later) and b) going back to lighter color.

Good luck!

You can buy a product called color oops to remove the dye. Most drugstores sell it.

Sorry, I just replied to you and then scrolled down to see you'd already addressed this. Try using something like this and then dyeing over the top with a gentle semi-permanent. Particularly with a colour like purple, it should work quite well with no need for bleach. I use it on my own hair to get rid of red, and I think it should do the trick.

I just read that I can use hair dye stain remover wipes like these to remove the stains... do you know if they would work for potential stains under my beard?

u/eatingmoss · 0 pointsr/femalehairadvice

Well, I've never used this but I've heard good things. I usually just dye over my previous hair color.
