I think I saw something similar that could be used to created a fancy tucked in pony tail braid hybrid look. Something like this or watch @ 3:15 on this video.

Goodie Ouchless no metal elastics.

I'd never seen these
before.

Do they work like a regular hair tie?

My 15 month old has long hair that is always in her eyes. She will sometimes leave bows but I have started using tiny little elastic bands to put it in a pony tail on the top of her head. She can't reach it very well and definitely doesn't have the hand strength to pull the elastic out. I use the smallest size from this pack:

My daughter is a quarter black and three-quarters white and has the fine hair with loose curls. At 6 months, I just use aveeno baby hair and body wash to wash her hair and combed it while wet. I often just did pig tails. Now her hair is longer and the curls are less prominent. I use this conditioner in her hair to help with tangles and still do pig tails or braids. I use the tiny rubber bands like this because anything else falls out of her fine hair. Overall, I have always had straight fine hair and also figuring out the curls, so if you learn anything good, please share!

I've always used good old fashioned scrunchies. I get them at Walmart for $3 or something like that for a pack of 3-4. 2 loose twists and my hair stays up pretty well, have used them for pineapple-ing with no weird crease, and they fit great on my wrist, even if they are a massive 80's/90's flashback.

What about those "telephone cord" hair ties? I think they're called spiral hair ties but they're made of plastic and look like an old-fashioned telephone cord. I have a couple and they're my favorite hair ties for running because they don't slip. And my hair is super fine and straight so lots of hair ties slip but these don't.

Amazon has lots of cute scrunchies and headbands for cheap that I’ve been eyeing!

I'm a middle school teacher, and I want to throw out there that while the brand doesn't matter, the most coveted type of scrunchies are the velvet ones like this and the ones with an attached bow, like this.

You seem like an awesome mom. :) Have fun with the VSCO lifestyle!

I'm not sure if these are available in your area (online options seem to be very scant), but I also have long, thick hair and these are the only things that hold my hair.

u/nancydrewin · 2 pointsr/longhair

try these

u/ShadedSpaces · 2 pointsr/whatisthisthing

I really don’t think it is... Topsy tail tools have a point at the end, for poking through the pony tail. Their handles/bases are narrow. This big, wide, blunt-ended thing with a weird plastic fin projecting from it would not work to make a topsy tail style at all.

Topsy tail tools look like this.

u/PigeonGoddess · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

Have you tried these? They're fabric hair bands that have little rubber bumps protruding from them. I find that they grip hair really well, keep pony tails up, and don't rip your hair to shreds when removing them.

Yeah, definitely get the thicker ones made for heavy hair. I have very thick long hair and I've had to get the thick Goody elastics since elementary school. They can last me several months before snapping or getting lost. They also break my hair less. I'd always end up with a bunch if awkward-length fly aways from the thinner elastics severing and breaking my hair because it was too heavy to hold.

You can still buy scrunchies, just not the big poofy ones. (I wear em around the house.)

I have a 20lb cat who loves black hair ties. You can shoot them like rubber bands. He chases after them, carries them around, and even drops them in his water bowl.

Texturizing spray & a tease is the best way to prep your hair.

Bend over and stand back up to flip your hair back. Good for an extra volume boost. Scoop it all up -- I have the best luck with fancy scrunchies (I like the velvety ones best -- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q4S4WK7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_HzeFDb61YXM3P ) and just follow your instinct. You don't want it right on top of your head, you want it slightly toward the crown. Don't make your bun too round. I usually scoop it up and scrunch it. I don't wrap and I don't just flip it in half.

Once you get it secured, pull on the hair at the front. The trick to looking profesh is to give yourself some body at the front. You don't want it slicked back straight into the bun, especially if you have a generous forehead like myself. Don't leave it flat!

Secure any unsightly flyaways with Bobby pins but pull a few short baby hairs down in front of your ears.

It takes some practice for sure. But just focus on the angle of the bun, your volume at the front (ahead of the bun), and your strategic loose face framing hairs by your ears and eventually you'll find your stride.

Good luck!

I love these: https://www.amazon.com/L-Erickson-Grab-Ponytail-Holders/dp/B00BGDQJFA/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1502500209&sr=8-1&keywords=l+erickson+ponytail+holder

I've had the same pack of them for 2 years, and they've held up great and don't tear my hair out at all.

u/rin1027 · 1 pointr/orangetheory

I've tried the invisibobble but my hair is far too thick and slippery for those. You should try L. Erickson hairbands! I swear by these and give everyone I meet with thick hair one to try (and most people end up switching to these!). The price is steeper than a regular pack of hair ties but they last forever and they really hold up your hair. Hope you find something that works for you!

This is a hair tie thing that you squeeze and bend to keep in place!

This is one that has a pull tab thing (I’m not sure what they’re called)

InkBits, Inc. (The "Bits" to let them know it has to do with computers/web design as well as actual ink - Or you could go with InkBytes, Inc. and give yourself a little "bite" out of your own logo.)

A gift card would be swell, but if you prefer actual physical stuff, I think this headband is pretty.

Thanks, that was a fun contest. Best of luck in your venture!

I have done a lot of lace, and completely second the stitch markers. I place one after each repeat. When on the purl rows, I count the number of stitches between each marker and can tell when a mistake is made right away.

I like these rubber bands. I buy them from a big-box retailer, and throw away all but the smallest size. They stretch, are colorful, and don't hurt your hands like hard plastic can be. On my most complicated projects I would sometimes have dozens and dozens on the needles.

I have Disney princess ponytail and the only hair elastics that have ever worked for me are these. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005IMHDW8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It actually stays until I take it out. What I recommend is learning how to do a messy bun and then put the hairnet (if you still need one) over the bun.

u/peachspecial · 1 pointr/bjj

I put mine in a tight bun and tie it down with a few Goody Slide Proof Elastics.
