NO FABRIC.

I mean it. #1 rule. NO. FABRIC. Any other feature is secondary. Sooner than you realize your kid will be eating in this thing at least 3 times a day. Imagine having to wash spaghetti sauce and mac n cheese and peanut butter and berries and nasty, smashed banana chunks out of fabric 3 times a day. And how bad it stains. And how bad it stinks.

Fabric on high chairs should be against the freaking law.

I made the mistake of buying a fabric high chair. My son is almost 2. I'm so tired of the fabric I once thought was beautiful.

Look for something like this or like this or like this. IKEA has cheap plastic chairs that are perfect and wipe down in seconds. They're amazing. So easy to clean.

neat, I will have to keep these in mind for when my twins get bigger: currently when we go to restaurants with the twins we use these booster seats so they have their own tray and they fit in most booths so the boys feel like they are sitting at the table but have their own space to try foods safely

It's this one

ZOE High Chair (5-in-1 High Chair, Noah Grey) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XPQ9M64/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_xQ5UBbEMAYGD5

We haven't gotten to use it yet (baby is only 8 weeks) but it goes together pretty easy and it doesn't take up much room!

So, I'll agree with people about the Mamaroo, but try to see one in person before you buy if you're worried about space because they do have a pretty big footprint even though they're low to the ground. If you're looking ahead a few months think about a high chair. This one is awesome. It folds up and hides away quickly, it's small enough and attractive enough that your kitchen isn't like HEY THERE'S A HIGH CHAIR IN HERE, and maybe most importantly it has no gross padded bits for food to get stuck in. Super easy to keep clean. I LOVE ours.

We use this seat. It's not super compact but works with any chair and is a little cheaper. It has definitely helped make going out much easier!

I’ve never heard that but it’s interesting and I hope someone has an answer for you! If it doesn’t work out maybe you can use something like this?

Congrats on the future new addition to your family!

We just got a splat mat at 13 months and we really like it. Our little guy recently started making the biggest messes with yogurt, and it’s nice to have the mat to catch the mess. We got this one on Amazon. .

I don’t think you’ll need one right away, and would recommend not getting one until later if you decide you’ll need it.

It’s on amazon called tray buddi

I'm still using mine at 18 months, but it's a pretty nice high chair, she's still very comfortable in it, and it has buckles so she can't stand in it. That being said, we're going to move her to a booster seat soon (this one) but it still has buckles.

For travel, we have this fabric one that straps onto most chairs. I like it because it’s much smaller than the one you posted and I can stuff into under the stroller so we always have it. It’s also washable and super easy to stuff into luggage. It doesn’t fit on every chair we’ve encountered though.

Oh, edit to add - I think a travel chair is totally worth it. We use it all the time!!

Things I considered when buying and appreciate now after using it a year. Adjustable: I can change the height for when sitting at a table or standing in the kitchen. Wheels-not necessary, but handy. Got one that the crotch part is part of the seat, not the table top. Love that my table can sit flat on the counter when I'm prepping food (this was a major decision maker of mine), plus ours has a seperate piece that snaps on to the top of the actual table piece that connects to the chair. Every meal wash the easy snap on top, and then the actual table part as needed (normally daily wipe down and deep clean after messy meals). While says can go in dishwasher, I can't imagine taking up my whole dishwasher just to wash this one thing.... Would take up all the space and easy to wipe off. Cushions come off for easy cleaning in the wash machine. Maybe unpopular opinion, but I supervise meals, and never had issue of him trying to escape (plus counter keeps him pretty well in place)... I found the straps/buckles a nuisance, so like I could just tuck them behind the pad and out of the way. (We ended up with the oxo tot seedling. Not beautiful, right price, had the right features, but my living room is now a war zone of toys, so it fits right in for now.) https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Seedling-High-Chair-Graphite/dp/B019FZ0BCW?keywords=Oxo+tot+seedling&qid=1537847999&sr=8-1&ref=mp_s_a_1_1

My family just loves these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013JYK9JA

We used a Clip on high chair
and it was so helpful we had a couple other families pick one up. Great for family parties and camping.

The best safe place is in a Pack n play and camping our kids always slept in a Sleep sack. Ridiculous looking, but it’s a sleeping bag with arms. We had them in lighter weight and a warmer one. I would be more worried about keeping their head warm than their hands.

We have ones of these Chicco "hanging" high chairs and another like this version. They can both be taken apart and the fabric parts tossed in the washer. They also break down into smaller segments, so we can take them with us when we travel. Our boys are about 17 & 19 pounds and will probably be able to fit in them a little while longer. Once they grow out of those, we'll use a booster-type seat that clips onto a regular dining chair.

I just got the Deluxe Fisher Price Booster seat (recommended by Reddit!) and I love it - we take it everywhere with us, my son is super comfortable in it and it doesn't take up a lot of room. For safety you need to make sure the child can't push off against the table or they can fall backwards. We haven't fed my son in it yet - still 2 weeks to go - we use it so my son can join us for meals. My girlfriend fed her messy 6.5 monther yesterday and it was super easy to clean.

We tried the Antilope because of how easy it us to clean and it did not seem safe. You can't really get the lap restraint tight and my son at 5 months was able to wedge a foot under his butt, which is part one of the leading cause of high chair falls - kids fall when their restraints are not sufficient and they can stand. A Redditor mentioned that a friend made their own 5-point restraint shoulder strap which sounded awesome, but way out if my skill level. Also, because of an issue with their supplier the tray is out of stock until August.

I looked at hundreds of high chairs and found the perfect chair - easy to clean, ergonomic, small footprint and very safe - the Baby Bjorn High Chair. The $270 price tag was just too much for this stay at home mom. Most chairs have cushions and creases that are impossible to clean. I have seen the results and it isn't pretty. My second choice chair is the Keekaru - it isn't cheap either.

Good luck!!

I didn't read this whole list.

You need as much as you need to make several daily outfit changes (onesies and footie-sleepers were the primary clothing depending on the season). One day we had hourly clothing changes from breakfast through dinner. (And not just for the baby, me, too.) In the newborn phase, diapers may need to be changed hourly, too. So just...a literal ton of onesies and diapers for the first 3 months. Socks never stay on - so if it's cool, just use the footie sleeper/creeper things.

If you plan to breastfeed - you need boobs. You don't need a pump or anything unless you plan to work before the baby is about 6 months old. You might need breast pads. I did with one kid, didn't with another. If I was leaking, there was a good chance the baby needed to be fed. I had reusable pads. I had a nursing pillow and it was a huge waste. Just use regular pillows. Or a rolled-up baby blanket. Or do laid back breastfeeding and you won't need a pillow to hold the baby up.

Also...6-10 DOZEN cloth diapers??? I had 2 dozen that I used for 3 years. (Rotating "2 dozen"...I did do mostly sized diapers, but always had about 2 dozen at a time. I sold them off as my kid grew out of them, and bought used for some things.) I wrote about my general cloth diaper needs a bit ago: where to begin with cloth. I also didn't really have a diaper pail...just a 5-gallon bucket in the bathroom.

Don't buy equipment like strollers swings, etc until you are sure you want them. I used a baby carrier (Infantino Sash is a good style that is inexpensive and versatile without the high price point of "fancier" carriers - can also find them used in a lot of baby consignment shops). By the time I needed a stroller with one kid I had pretty specific needs and didn't need a big/expensive stroller that needed to fit a carseat or anything. Also, babies grow out of those "bucket" seats pretty quickly. You might just start out with a convertible. I had a high chair but rarely used it. A small booster that sits on an existing chair worked better for our home setup. We had one sort of like this...but it was less bulky looking. I don't remember the brand. And I rarely used the tray - I often just had the baby sitting at the table. If I used the tray it was b/c I had brought the chair away from the table into another room.

Also...I would get a lot of clothes from consignment b/c you go through them so so quickly. You could buy 3 dozen onesies for the same price as a single pack of nice onesies brand new. And your kid is going to do disgusting things to them.
