Only get ceramic disk thermostatic mixing valves; like this one. Also use pex & 3/4"; but that's my opinion.
Additional info. It doesn't even change the pressure of the water coming out of the shower head. Brand new mixing valve and cartridge out of the package. First one I've installed. So maybe I'm missing something obvious. Do I have the wrong valve installed? Is this not the kind that can shut water off? You should have an auxiliary pressure balancing valve on that to prevent scalding.
You should also have a tempering valve with integral checks set to no higher than 120 degrees.
