Wait are those the 'black mixed with color' pens? It came in a pack of: dark green, dark red, dark blue, dark purple, and dark brown.

The dark-green was sexy as fuuuuuuuck.

This Leuctturm I love the red dots and edges of the notebook.

I also use these Pilot v5 pens - only black, red, blue, and green. Black for most words and lines, red for finished tasks, blue for changes, and green for finished days.

Uniball - Deluxe Rollerball Pen is my go-to because it’s waterproof, very fine, and inexpensive.

I’ve been expirimenting with a fountain lately, which gives a wider variation to line weight, but the jury is still out.

These ones are some I've looked at that won't break the bank subjectively.

I haven't tried it out yet with fountain pen ink but I bought these for that purpose.

I think Super5 makes one as well... I don't know of any place that sells them but I heard about it on Massdrop. Haven't tried them either. Here's a previous Amazon link for an idea of what they're like.

Super5 Ink Roller Arctic, with ink converter and case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LWXNE57/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_34QezbE5SPNKZ

Only other one I've heard of is this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00UOK2BIA/?th=1&psc=1

I researched all of this while finding alternatives for a Kakimori roller ball... those are discontinued unfortunately but if enough people pester them, they may make a return.

These: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006UKK0WM/ are my all time favourite pens for writing lots. So smooth and comfortable to use. Here's what it looks like on paper: http://i.imgur.com/TaQJM.jpg (excuse my handwriting)

I'd go for the Cross Peerless then. Black body/gold trim looks nicer in my opinion, but it doesn't speak as loudly, it could be he wants it to talk.

I'm a lefty, and I know your struggle with writing instruments. Like /u/yoimhungry, I also spend way too much money in fountain pens, and I could recommend you a bunch of those. I'll just stick to one. The Pilot V Pen is a great option as far as starter fountain pens because they're cheap, write really well, and the ink is good for even low quality paper since it dries pretty quickly. It also comes in a good variety of colours. There are a variety of options you can find if you search for it on amazon. The ones I sent you are just examples of all the ink colours. At around 6 Pounds or so, it's a good deal.

I would also recommend a Pilot MR if you're looking for a roller ball. It's a gel roller ball which uses Pilot's G2 rollerball refill (which are easy to find) and to top it off, the colour options are classy, and it's really well built. These come in at around 11 or 12 pounds, which is over what you wanted, but is really reliable.

In terms of my favourite pen, it's hard to choose. I have around 28 fountain pens right now, and my favourite would probably be my Nexus Titanium Plus; a pen made with titanium components. That was one that I helped kickstart for, and I was super excited when it arrived.

You are correct that the TWSBI Eco will not take cartridges, other clear cartridge pens in that price range are below (links to amazon.de):

  • Kaweco sport transparent takes international standard cartridges under €20

  • J Herbin fountain pen also international standard about €12

  • Platinum PGB3000 comes in clear as well as transparent pink or blue is about €25, takes platinum cartridges although they do an adaptor to convert to international standard

These two are the main culprits cause they're basically the only ones you can get mainstream in the UK.

But the gel pens are fine and I love my Kuru Toga.

Thanks for your suggestions! My boyfriend finally got me this Moleskine journal, in orange-yellow, from Riemer on Nieuwe Ebbingestraat. Riemer seems like a nice bookstore which also stocks some stationery.

I gathered you have an interest in fountain pens; do you have any recommendations for one with a fine (0.5 mm or so) nib that's not too expensive? I currently use Pilot V5 Hi-Tecpoint 0.5 mm, but want to go back to using a real fountain pen.

I really like these, they have a liquid ink which kinda reminds me of a fountain pen whenever I use it. A comfortable grip and smooth tip makes it a really cool pen that I use whenever I don't have a FP in my hand.

Hey, Krazee—I use uni-ball Vision Elite Rollerball Pens, Bold Point (0.8mm).

I find they work the best on the oils of the pumpkin, but be careful of smearing.

Before I got into fountain pens, I loved the blue Uniball Insight. Very bright blue ink, and a smooth enough writer. You can get them in black and red as well, but the blue is the most interesting IMHO. The feed looks like it can hold enough ink to fly without leaking, but I can't be sure if that is the case. If it did leak, it probably wouldn't be bad.

Not capped but the Pentel Energel RT Alloy would feel at home in big hands.

The Sheaffer 300 is my favorite "big" fountain pen. You may like the roller ball. If I am not mistaken you can use a G2 refill in them without modification. Unfortunately I only have the fountain pen, but it works in a sheaffer aggio rollerball I have and both take the sheaffer slim refill.

u/Socratov · 1 pointr/fountainpens

I would advocate the pen I use now: the Sheaffer 100 medium nib. Not only does it write smooth, it's reliable (no skips, and starts immediately) it comes with a piston and 2 cartridges. Oh, and it comes in different colours and finishes, there is bound to be one you find pretty enough to give away as a present.
