I think the rubber scrubby ones are for gums, when they get a good amount of teeth that's when you move to a brush. But, I'm sure something is better than nothing.

I just found my favorite toothbrush for my 2 year old on amazon. I use flouride free training toothpaste because my LO still swallows a good bit of it.

I’m so sorry you are struggling. I have a slightly different trigger, but I’ll tell you how I deal with it. For me, going to the dentist triggers me badly. I’ve had two different dental procedures where I could feel the pain. I get terrified of going, but I still have to. So I try to stare at a picture, or a specific spot on the wall/ceiling, and I focus on my breathing. I think for showering, a more visual distraction could be helpful for you. Maybe get a waterproof phone case (or a fully sealable plastic bag as a cheap option) and take one of your favorite movies/some kind of feel-good TV in the shower with you. Some other thoughts to stimulate/distract your other senses: music, soothing sounds, or maybe an essential oil diffuser. It can help ground you. For brushing your teeth, I wonder if a different type of toothbrush would help? Dr. Brown's Finger Toothbrush https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073XXCBHP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KjB3CbCQG3YSN

This is one that fits over your finger. Maybe if you can feel the sensation of your finger in your mouth, it will feel less like a foreign object? I hope some of this helps. I really feel for you.

I use these toothbrush/toothpaste, individually boxed sets. They average about 33¢ apiece.

This already exists in manual form. I bought some for my autistic son to use, hoping to improve is oral hygiene. The design isn't very effective, unfortunately. Sorry you haven't been successful.

Top recommendation is definitely get a Waterpik. Makes brushing and flossing a lot easier.

There are floss threaders to help you floss, but I actually found it much more helpful to learn to floss without them. Some people like to use floss designed for braces or floss picks. You can try different tools to figure out which one works best for you. The best one is the one that will help you stick with flossing consistently.

Interdental brushes are another good idea to help you clean between the brackets. I only floss once a day, but I use interdental brushes the rest of the time to make sure my braces are clean.

If you're sticking with a manual brush, switch to an ortho V-cut brush like this one, which clean much better against the brackets: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NVWC8K3/

>I got my gallbladder taken out about 6 years ago. Since then, almost everytime I eat I have to poo kind of urgently afterwards. That has put me on a 3-5 shits a day schedule.

I gotta ask, is that a... normal consequence of having your gallbladder removed?

Diarrhea 3-5x/day, everyday, right after eating, for 6 years sounds awful to me, not to mention inconvenient. It doesn't seem like it bothers you all that much, though, so that's good at least.

To answer your question, there's nothing wrong with using a bidet without TP beforehand. The bidet was originally meant to be used in place of TP, after all.

However (and this is just me), the only thing I personally see an issue with is using your finger to scrub with when you're going that many times a day.

Yes, I know you said you wash your hands thoroughly afterwards, and it wouldn't be as big a deal if you were going once a day or so, like most people.

But if you're shitting 3-5 times a day every day, then I feel like there's inevitably gonna be a time when you're in a bit of a hurry and end up not washing your hands as thoroughly as you should. I also can't get past the thought of poo particles possibly getting under your fingernail and building up there.

(Btw, the cultures you mention that wash after shitting with water and their bare hand have really strict rules about it—for example, they only wash with their left hand, and never use the left hand to eat with, or prepare food with, or to shake hands with, etc.)

If the water pressure of the bidet isn't strong enough to blast off all of the poo without manual scrubbing, then what about spraying, giving your bum a quick once-over with a single wet wipe to dispatch any clingers, then giving another spritz for good measure? Only downside to that is you'd still be consuming a disposable good.

Another option is entering a time warp to the year 3000 and using a silicone scrubber in place of your finger or TP. They're antibacterial, last forever, gentle on the skin (they might look hard but the bristles are actually super soft), super cleansing (you're basically squeegee-ing your skin clean), and work up a great lather when used with soap. Not to mention, they boost circulation and feel pretty awesome. Using one feels like you're getting your bum kissed by a horde of small, friendly sea anemones.

There are silicone bath scrubbers meant for the whole body and smaller ones meant to be used for the face.

The face scrubbies are sufficiently size if you're just aiming to clean the immediate vicinity of your dooderhole. I bought mine in a 2-pack (different colors) at a drugstore. One I use for my face and armpits, the other is designated for the unholier areas of the body.

If you prefer the precision of your finger there's also silicone finger toothbrushes meant to brush a baby's teeth/gums with.

Btw (and sorry if this is TMI), I actually once knew a gay guy (a male go-go dancer, actually) who swore by using a silicone finger toothbrush and a drop of toothpaste "down there" to freshen up with. Just make sure nobody in your household has a baby and gets it mixed up with the baby care items.

I bought these, have held up really well so far (about 4 months of use). Thought they were wrapped in plastic when they showed up, but it's plant-based plastic, so that was okay.

I hope you didn't end up paying more than $5.85 for that 2 pack of toothbrushes. Always check Amazon before you buy in the store.

u/GhostOfTheNet · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Holy smokes, Batman! Silly, but these add-on toothbrushes would be sweet. It also has a coupon to clip! Thank you for the contest!

In the middle east, they used to (and occasionally still) use a root called a "Miswak". As a bonus, it comes with its own "paste" as its sap has antiseptic properties.

I got these and I have no problem with the bristles. I think they’re labeled as soft but they aren’t at all! One problem is that they’re manufactured in China and delivered through amazon. Other than that, Love em.

You can also carry toothpicks, [floss picks(http://www.walgreens.com/q/floss+picks), or disposable brushes - Colgate, or Scope as examples.

Make it a habit to keep your teeth clean, and it'll become a lot less inconvenient.

I was embarrassed to admit to my Dentist that I never really learned to brush correctly while I was younger. He saw that I was always having issues, and took the time to ask about my brushing and flossing techniques. Since he did that when I was about 25 (25 years ago), I've had only 1 new filling.
I only brush twice a day - morning and evening, but I rinse and floss after eating , rinse after coffee or soda if it's convenient.

u/ajs432 · 1 pointr/ZeroWaste

I got this one recently. It isn't really plastic for the window, even though it looks like it is. More of a contact paper material. So far so good. The brush head is a little big for my taste, but includes instructions for composting and recycling on the package.

I'll stick with my Dentrust, thanks.

Anyone else try using those mini disposable toothbrushes? I don't think they have fluoride in the "toothpaste", so I might be hesitant to use them on a thru hike, but for shorter journeys they seem reasonable. I tried Scope's Outlast ones on my last overnight, and they seemed to do a decent job, but I'm curious if other people have tried this path.

Weight savings aren't huge (I measured the brushes at 2g each), but tooth care drops from 8g base + 14g consumable (taking the numbers from the cheap UL kit lighterpack) to 4g/day consumable, putting the break even point between 5 and 6 days.
