Sure, I spent a year making all kinds of extracts and tinctures and reading endless forum discussions about it. There is a great technique called the Quick Wash Ethanol Extraction Technique. QWEET. There are other methods that work, too, but this one is my stand-by now. Feel free to ask if anything is unclear.

Anyway, you basically use 190 proof grain alcohol chilled to 0 degrees F in a freezer. You then decarboxylate your crumbled plant material for an hour at 240 degrees F in your oven, then freeze it, too.

In my recent batch I had a couple ounces of Charlotte's Web flower, so I crumbled that into a half gallon mason jar after the decarbing process, then put it into the freezer, too.

So you end up with two things in your freezer at zero degrees:

  • 1 bottle with 500 or more ml of grain ethanol. A fifth is 750 ml.

  • 1 half gallon mason jar containing 60 grams (2 oz) of crumbled decarboxylated cannabis

You should also have another 2 jars to collect the filtered extraction. They can be quart jars.

After things have chilled to temp, the process goes like this:

  1. Bring out the frozen jar of cannabis and the bottle of chilled ethanol. Have the second and third jar ready. You now pour the ethanol into the jar with the cannabis until it is just covered, no more. Just enough for it to slosh a bit. You slosh it around in that jar for one minute. Some people don't even do it for a full minute, but I do.

  2. This slurry is then quickly poured through a small kitchen strainer into the clean empty jar. This is just a pre-filter to remove most of the plant material. Let the ethanol drain out of the material, then discard the spent cannabis.

  3. The third empty mason jar is now covered by one of those personal coffee filter holders, with a [quality unbleached coffee filter] (https://www.amazon.com/If-You-Care-Unbleached-Filters/dp/B005P0FTYM/ref=pd_sim_79_5?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B005P0FTYM&pd_rd_r=6a4bbfb5-cf5c-11e8-ab44-9143b7b890b1&pd_rd_w=AdTtr&pd_rd_wg=mHLjJ&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=18bb0b78-4200-49b9-ac91-f141d61a1780&pf_rd_r=Q31XVYZ0VWC9SAXJVC0F&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=Q31XVYZ0VWC9SAXJVC0F) in it. Start pouring. This takes a while, so you pour an amount in and wait for it to drain, then add more, etcetera. Eventually it has all been filtered and is in the third jar.

After that you can do a few things. It is technically already a tincture, but you can evaporate off some alcohol to concentrate it more. You can also turn it into thick oil or dabbing material by pouring it into a clear pyrex baking dish and letting all of the alcohol evaporate. The longer it sits the thicker it gets. You then use a razor to scrape it up.

For a truly ideal tincture I will evaporate off all of the alcohol as described, because frankly alcohol tinctures DO taste like shit. I scrape up the thickened oil and then dissolve it into 60 ml (two ounces) of MCT oil. It easily dissolves with just a bit of heat and stays that way, and there is very little taste at all. Now it can be used sublingually for maximum absorption. You can even get all fancy and add flavors. 2 or 3 drops of this oil-based flavoring is ideal.

If you want to make MCT oil, here's the method I use for extraction:

  • Decarb 60 gm of bud at 250 °F for 45 minutes
  • Chop lightly in blender
  • Add to crockpot and cover with 600 ml MCT oil + 1 tbsp lecithin
  • Heat at about 160 °F for 2 - 3 hours with occasional stirring. Check the temp periodically so it doesn't over heat.
  • Let cool, filter and transfer to 1 oz dropper bottles

You should have enough to fill 16 - 20 bottles. Depending on the strain, the oil should contain 15 - 20 mg/ml THC.

    Some items you may need:

    Turkey Bag for decarb

    MCT Oil

    Lecithin

    Digital Thermometer

Honey Strainer to remove the particulate

    Large syringe for transferring oil

    Dropper Bottles

I use this.
Keto MCT Oil containing c8 Caprylic Acid ~ Made from Non-GMO Coconuts ~ Fuel for The Body & Mind ~ Keto & Paleo Diet Friendly, Gluten & Dairy Free (16oz Leak Proof Squeeze Bottle) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BFJB4XD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_16KXCb92Z4FVT

Don't look at because it make a bit of a film, but it's tasteless. I've done a table spoon of it straight and it just tastes like a flavorless oil

It's a powder a friend of mine gave me as she is trying to purge her place for a move. I hadn't planned to use it, but I like it for breaking the fast and man it tastes good!

MCT oil made from C8 and C10 (capric and caprilyc acid) doesn't feed the yeast because it's too small for the little buggers to digest. Coconut oil, as well as bad MCT oil with Lauric acid (C12), feeds the little bastards. If the MCT doesn't have Lauric acid (C12), then you can use it to keep your skin oily, and your skin won't go producing more of its own oil with fuel for the yeast.

If the MCT doesn't list Lauric acid in the ingredients, then add up the C8 and C10 acids. They should add up to the total fatty acids listed. If they don't add up to the total fats, then assume it has Lauric acid. If the ingredients don't list the breakdown, then assume it's no good. Amazon is full of good MCT oils. Here is the one I'm using morning, after work, and at night (along with pure aloe morning and night, and Neutrogena T/Sal at night):

So to answer your question it loosens flakes, but also helps prevent your skin from producing food (its own oil) for the yeast that causes the SD problem.

Actually, purely due to taste reasons, I generally advise against going with an extra-virgin option in favour of a lighter olive oil. However, I suppose if you do want to use purer versions, it wouldn't strictly be necessary to add the oil to the shakes - you could instead have a tofu + EVOO mix or even add the oil into coffee or something. Unfortunately, as I generally recommend lighter versions for taste reasons, and myself use an MCT/coconut mix (with a little flax or algal oil for omega 3s), I don't have much knowledge on good olive oils.

What is good, though, are ones in non-clear bottles, ideally that have been kept refrigerated, and perhaps with some added vitamin E (or other antioxidants) to minimise risk of oxidation. When it comes to oxidation, it's only really the PUFA content you have to pay attention to - olive is one of the better ones for this purpose, but still isn't ideal. In terms of optimising omegas, MCT/coconut is probably best here.

When it comes to MCT oils, there are various ones I tend to recommend. The most budget oil I recommend but still trust is this one. It's gone up in price recently, but is still competitively priced, and Mutant are a reliable brand. It's somewhat difficult to find the C8/C10 ratio, but if you look here and click on 'MUTANT MCT OIL' in supplement facts, a table pops up.

This shows in the top table that 15ml contains 14g of fats (density of MCT oil is 0.93-0.96g per ml, so 15ml translates to 13.95-14.4g so rounding would take this to the 14g - a good sign). You can also see at the bottom that this is broken down into 9.8g of C8 and 4.2g of C10, so there will be extremely minimal levels of C6 (which can cause GI distress) or C12 (which while extremely healthy isn't digested like MCTs for keto purposes).

The fact there is a breakdown and the oil is by a reputable brand means I am confident in its quality. Buying four bottles gets the price down to £18.19 per 946ml, which is £19.23/l (~€21.60/l). I haven't heard of the brand /u/ultraweaklisk linked, so I can't comment on how good it is unfortunately.

Another oil I recommend is the one you linked. Bulletproof are well-known for high-quality products, and specialise in MCT oils too, with both a C8/C10 mix like you linked, and a pure C8 oil (which some believe is better). Unfortunately, they keep the exact ratios of C8/C10 a secret, but I have no doubt they are reputable. The one you linked gives 2838ml for $80.88, which works out to $28.50/l or ~€24.84/l. I haven't checked postage (which may change things), but it's not too much more expensive than the Mutant option with just product price.

If you're wanting a pure C8 oil though, whilst Bulletproof's Brain Octane is no doubt a quality product, the price point is higher than an equally good one (which I use myself). When it comes to C8, some people swear by it and others don't feel much different from a typical MCT oil - personally, I can feel the difference when I take ~15ml per shake, though I don't really feel much on normal MCT oil. Anyway, the one I use is this one. It's a fair bit more pricy than the C8/C10 mixes, coming in at £29.66/l (~€33.32/l), but if you're wanting an isolated C8, it's probably your best bet. Of note, some of that C8 oil is sourced from palm oil, but as per the questions on the product's amazon page, this palm oil is sustainable and has been certified by the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil).

One potential option to all of this, if you're concerned about price per serving/quality of coconut/MCT oils, get GI distress from them in high amounts or dislike the omega content of olive oil would be a high-oleic algal oil. Now the company I'm aware of that do this will, I believe, generally only sell to companies, but you may be able to negotitate with them if buying something like 25 litres.

The relevant page is this one. If you scroll down to the fatty acid compositions table, you will see that their oil is 93% monounsaturated, 4% saturated and only 1.9% polyunsaturated. Even assuming you're using 200 grams of this stuff per day, at most that's giving you 3.8g of PUFA. Even at 400g for ~4000 calories per day, you're looking at 7.6g of PUFA.

Now unfortunately, I can not find a reference to the omega 3 to omega 6 ratio. I can make some predictions though, based on previous correspondence I've had with the company regarding their algal flour. Before I get into this though, it's important to note this is all assumptions, as they do not derive the oil with the same method as the flour, so there may be different ratios.

Anyway, with the flour, the fatty acids are, by mass, 11.6% omega 6 and 1.2% omega 3 (I can provide the document listing the breakdown if you are interested). From the above, we see omega 3 makes up 9.375% of PUFA whilst omega 6 makes up 90.625% of PUFA). If we translate this to the algal oil, and assume 100g of algal oil contains 98.9g of fat (as per the sum of values in the oil page's fatty acid breakdown) (and hence 98.9*9 = 890.1 calories), we can work out what would be required to get 4000 calories from KetoGenesis (I'll assume unflavoured vegan for calculation purposes):

Three servings of unflavoured vegan KetoGenesis = 444kcal, 0.7g SFA, 0 MUFA, 0 total PUFA, 0g omega 6, 0g omega 3.

400 grams of Algawise algal oil = 3560.4kcal, 16g SFA, 372g MUFA, 7.6g PUFA, 6.8875g omega 6, 0.7125g omega 3.

Total: 4004.4kcal, 16.7g SFA, 372g MUFA, 7.6g PUFA, 6.8875g omega 6, 0.7125g omega 3.

The algal oil is providing enough omega 3 in the forms of DHA and EPA that the capsules won't be necessary if you're using 400g of the algal oil daily. You may want to lower that slightly and include some flaxseeds or flax oil to make the omega 3 to omega 6 ratio closer to 1:1, but this seems to be the best way to go if you want to avoid coconut/MCT.

If you're interested in this route, I can request more details from Algavia about the oil (eg cost, accurate fatty acid breakdown, etc).

Hope this helps :)

I couldn't find MCT powder by Zhou, but I did find the following two that claim to use Acacia fiber:

https://smile.amazon.com/Friendly-Triglycerides-Prebiotic-Appetite-Smoothie/dp/B071WV64QQ

Also three others that use soluble corn fiber. I actually didn't see any that admitted to using maltodextrin -- unless that applies to the several that use "non-GMO Tapioca".

I don't have experience with TBI but exogenous ketones and MCT oil have allowed me more leeway with the amount of protein and carbs I can eat while keeping my blood ketone levels high and blood glucose low. I aim for blood BHB levels above 4 mmol/L and a glucose-ketone index (GKI) of <1.

As far as affordable exogenous ketone supplements go, I use Nutricost Keto BHB Exogenous Ketones. Cheap (as far as exogenous ketones go, at least) and effective.

For MCTs, ideally you would want to go with something high in caprilyc acid (C8) which is the most ketogenic of the MCTs. I use Clean MCT. You don't need to use a C8-only MCT oil, but it will provide the greatest benefit. I've used mixed products before with good results. For an overview of different MCTs, see this blog post from Bulletproof.

Another thing I've found helpful in maintaining therapeutic ketosis is a blood ketone meter, like the Keto-Mojo or Precision Xtra. Tracking my blood glucose and ketone levels after eating has allowed me to tailor my dosage of exogenous ketones and MCTs to maintain a GKI <1 while supplementing strategically and not wasting a ton of money on supplements.

The avocado oil added a terrible flavor. It might be better with a different brand. I made it again with 4 tbsp of mct oil instead and it was awesome.

Wow, thank you for the lengthy reply. I'll look into some products that you mentioned in the first few steps and see how they work out for me. I definitely agree it will be something to do with un-moisturized skin, I just need to find the right products that help my skin as opposed to creating another problem. Since making this post and reading your response, I have ordered this, [this]
(https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B074W8S1RN/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), [this] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003YMJJSK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and this.

As for the Lotrimin Ultra, would something like this work?
It contains Terbinafine Hydrochloride 1%, not sure if that's similar to Butenafin Hydrochloride by any chance? If not I have found the exact product you mentioned, although it is a bit more on the expensive side in comparison to what I'm used to. But I will definitely give it a try.

Thank you again for your response, I will hopefully report back soon with positive results!

I bought this and I mix it with some sugar free Torani syrup and heavy cream, however, right when my coffee brews I have to put it all in a magic bullet to get the powder to really disintegrate. It makes it nice and frothy though, and is very filling.

I got it off amazon, mostly I needed their coffee for a trip where I didn't know what the food options were and I knew I needed way more fat than anyone else on the trip!

It is obscenely expensive! I only use it for trips where I need something where I just add water.

Yes, but lately going on IF and skipping breakfast. I do use for my Ketofuel and other times.
Keep in mind that most MCT's refine out Lauric acid which is the best part of coconut oil for health, but I found this one that has 1/3 of it (unrefined is usually about 50%).

Pro Tip: In case you didn't know, too much MCT (or Coconut Oil) will clean you out. Otherwise they're both great. The More You Know

You make a drink using Ceylon cinnamon (make sure not to use the usual kitchen Cassia cinnamon that contains a serious toxin at just a teaspoon). This potion is so powerful that you'll forget about eating. Start off w/ just a tablespoon of quality c10/c8 MCT Oil and then chase that w/ your mixed drink. Mix the dry ingredients first, and you'll then stir that mix into the liquids. You use the dry first:

- 1 or 2 tablespoons of Hemp protein powder, mixed w/

- 2 packets of Stevia sweetener

- 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of Organic Ceylon cinnamon powder (DO NOT USE THE DANGEROUS REGULAR KITCHEN VARIETY)

- (optional) 1 teaspoon of Inulin fiber/sweetener

... Now prepare the liquid portions in a drinking glass:

- a Squirt of Lemon Juice, usually just enough to cover the bottom of the glass

- about 200ml of room temp water, as cold water is harder to mix

Stir the dry mix into the liquids as best you can, and try to drink it while it's still spinning.

It takes about 15-20 min. for it to take effect, but expect a shot of energy and hunger to vanish for a few hours in the least.
