I totally agree. With your beard and facial bone structure, you'd be a handsome man with a clean shaved head. I started going bald just this year when I noticed a thinning on the top. I went out and bought the right kind of shaver and have been INTENTIONALLY bald ever since. If want a recommendation, here's what I use and they work great in the shower.

Don't let it get you down. Your confidence takes a hot only because you think hair makes you something different than what you are. You're the same guy bald but this way it's on your own terms. Good luck!

If you want to wear mascara while you're recovering, you can get a new tube and apply with one-time-use spoolie brushes. You can also get them at Sally Beauty. Just make sure you don't touch the brush to your lashes, then put it back in the tube.

I have one of the cheaper Phillips Norelcos from Costco (cheaper being relative, you can get them cheaper but idk the quality of the shave). As long as you use it every day/every other day it’s great. If you let your hair get longer than short stubble it can start to feel like it’s pulling some but even then it’s not terrible. I had tried one of the like $20 no name shavers before and it felt like my hair was being ripped out.

Have had the Phillips about 5 years, with heavy use in the last two years, have only have replaced the blades once. As long as you clean the shavers occasionally with alcohol and wipe it down it stays fine.

I keep mine in the car during the week, use it each morning and on the way home. I take it out on Friday after work to clean it and charge it. Realistically the charge lasts longer than that also.

The only complaint is that since the hair on my neck grows in different directions there’s one or two spots that I always have to go over multiple times. I think one of the newer ones that has less plastic around the three blade things may work better but I haven’t seen the need to get another new one yet. Eventually will prolly upgrade.

I do need to make sure to moisturize with some kind of lotion after or it really dries my face out.

Anybody know if the voltage from outlets has the potential to harm devices brought over from the US?

I bought a rather expensive electric shaver in the US (believe it's this one). Works great, but the second I plugged in the "cleaning station" part of it in Japan - it just keeps running and running. Wasted an entire container of solution because the damn thing was running all day at while I was at work and I hadn't even noticed. One cycle is supposed to last about 5-10 minutes, but it just goes on endlessly until I unplug.

It has a warranty... but that's going to be a pain to handle from over here. Especially if I'm gonna get the same problem if I have it replaced. I don't care so much (don't need the cleaning station/can do it manually), but the thing was expensive :(.

Started balding in my early 20s. I was pushing 30 when I decided to go 'bald' all the time. Not too much of a shock since I'd done so a voluntarily a few times up until that point.
Tried the 0 on hair trimmers for a while.
Tried wet shaving for a while after that.
Now I've settled on the Bald Eagle Skull Shaver, which performs somewhere between the other two.

Maybe buy her a few delicacies that come in beautiful reusable glass jars.

If she's ready to move to DE razors, Mulhe is supposed to be the best and they are quite pricey. Don't forget to get a few packs of extra blades, the forums recommend to start with an assortment of various brands, so she can find which razor blade brand works best for her.
Then you can get her some lovely shaving bar soap, and i've even seen leather case such as this one for DE razors, which would make a fine basket together with some sensual body lotion (make sure there's no alcohol in it, or it'll sting on the freshly shaved skin).

Other than that, if she's craftsy, maybe a kit of some sort to help her learn make some of the reusable fabric stuff herself. Preferably something including a tool that she'll reuse after making the item.

Other than that, experiences. Doesn't have to be expensive, could be something she used to enjoy as a kid and hasn't done in a while. The experiences that are meaningful are those we enjoy the most.

Get an electric razor and shave every morning. There are better ones if you can afford it. Some thing like this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H6YAJXA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_36wWAbKCENS0Q

I have this one for when I go on holiday. Gives a clean and tidy shave (obviously not as close as a safety razor) but still good enough. Cost me around £15 off of Amazon. It takes two AA batteries which is ideal, as you can have spares for when they run out. You get 60 minutes use out of the batteries.

Thanks so much! I'm gonna get it

I use a Norelco cordless 3000. It is meant for beards i think.ha. I found it on sale cheaper than the shaver I was going to buy for my legs so I bought it to give it a try, and i like it. It doesn't shave as close as a normal razor would in the shower, but it does a pretty good job.

Obligatory "Go visit /wicked_edge" post.

Now that we've got that out of the way, I have a Norelco 7325. It shaves just as good as the more expensive models (though admittedly not as close as a blade), it's a rotary type, and in about 90 seconds you can get a decent enough shave for when you are in the rush. It's also chordless (so you can use it in the car) and comes with a nosetrimmer as well. Not too shabby for the price.

A good electric razor may be a solution for you. I've used this Phillips model for going on two years now (both before and after starting laser btw) and it is amazing. There's a bit of a learning curve, but once you get used to it, you won't have near as bad of issues with the neck. Also, if you don't like wasting money, buy it on eBay instead of Amazon.

Other things I use to get the best shave possible -

Shave Secret -not sure why Wal-Mart beats Amazon here, but they do

Nivea After Shave - I apply this over the Shave Secret oil and my Norelco glides over my face no problems.

Bump Stopper 2 - also a blessing, use as directed, after applying after shave, and after makeup removal before bed. I find it barely use it for a couple weeks after a laser session, but I was using it every day before starting laser treatments and now use it during the last two-ish weeks between sessions.

This is the regimen I've had in place for a good while, as the hair on my neck grows in 217 different directions and using a multi-blade or a safety razor always jacked my neck UP. Best of luck!

Is that this one?

u/cye5 · 1 pointr/shaving

Norelco Triple Header, avoid the ones with a head like this though, they are not as nice, https://www.costco.com/Philips-Norelco-9850-Shaver.product.100371479.html
Something like this works just fine, https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Norelco-Shaver-AT810-46/dp/B00JITDVFU
I personally would avoid foil razors.

I have pretty sparse and light colored facial hair so I get away with trimming it with the flip-up clippers on my electric razor every morning or even every other morning; I hate the 3-head rotary shaver part because it hurts and takes like 5 passes to get rid of all the lone hairs that keep surviving passes with it. I'm too lazy for a non-electric razor I think and I also have shitty skin so I'm worried the creams will give me acne

so...

  1. are there better clippers that I can use? the flip up one i have misses hairs a lot and doesn't get close to the skin on the first pass so i have to go over it a couple times and be very fastidious around my chin

  2. are there electric razors that don't yank hairs out and hurt?

the razor i have now looks something like this one (same brand)

This is what I have, it's a pretty basic model. On days I decide to shave, I use it within a few minutes after stepping out of the shower or after running a hot towel across my face. I've never used any oils or creams with it though as those are usually used more often with a straight razor.

u/Kardif · 1 pointr/genderqueer

If you can afford it I'd recommend a norelco electric razor. They're really good quality and don't leave stubble. You will still be able to see your hair under your skin if it's dark, the only way to fix that is by wearing makeup.

Guess they'll have to rely on marketing like bananas to electric shavers
