The only sheet approved for use in the pack n play is one like this. It's made specifically for the thin pack n play mattress board. Regular crib sheets or waterproof pads are made to fit over much thicker crib mattresses so using them in the PnP will yield way too much slack.

I think I'm reading you right here - like there's excess fabric that's bunching up in the middle?

If you're using something like this on the thin board that comes with a PnP it's incorrect. This sheet is meant to be used with a thicker PnP mattress, which is an add on some people use once baby is older (like toddler age).

A newborn/infant should only sleep on the thin board that comes with the PnP and/or the thin pack n play sheet in the first link.

If you do s registry through Amazon they have a great walk through thing that goes through different categories and sub categories of things you might need or want.

I'm not a first timer so here are a few things you may want to register for aside from what you already have :

  • crib, crib sheets. You may want to get a mobile although you probably won't use it at first.we use this one and love it. You can use it even after baby sits up or begins to stand

  • you may want a bassinet or something similar since Most parents want their baby close to them for a while. We had a bassinet but hated it. In our old house it only fit at the end of our bed so I'd have to get up and by the time I did my husband would be awake too. This time around we're getting an arms reach co sleeper. You can use it as a bassinet or attached as a consleeper. It's more compact than the bassinet we had and the sides fold down which is awesome as a co sleeper. If you decide to get either you need a couple sheets for that

  • stroller

  • swing or bouncer. My kids always hated bouncers but loved the swing. It's seriously a life saver. We still have our swing but are also getting a rock n play this time around. It folds almost flat so we can easily bring it with us when we go see family and I'll easily be able to bring it around the house.

  • bathtub. You'll most likely want a tub for the baby

  • baby monitor. We have a summer infant camera one we love

  • crib mattress. We use Serta. We had a safety 1st one for our second and it was a piece of garbage. It lost its shape and started to get stained and have an odor from being spit up on and things like that.

  • mattress pads- id recommend 2-3

  • swaddle wraps if you plan to use them

  • a thermometer, nail clipper, maybe gas drops

  • shopping cart cover- won't be used right away but my daughter loved to put her mouth on the cart 😑

  • Bottle brushes and drying rack

  • high chair- won't be used right away. Mine was able to lean back (I have a graco one)

  • changing pad. I use the keekaroo peanut. It's pricey but so worth it in my opinion. I don't have to deal with covers or changing them in the middle of the night if they get soiled. I just wipe it down and done.

  • baby carrier- I've tried the babybjorn and moby. The babybjorn was really uncomfortable to wear. The moby was super hot to wear. I ended up buying an ergo and love it.

  • bottle warmer: some people say this isn't necessary. We got one when my daughter had to be on special formula. The thing is the formula when mixed was extremely bubbly. It would solve her one digestive issue while giving her extreme gas making her uncomfortable. I read online that people had the same issue so they'd pre mix the formula and put it in the fridge. The thing was my daughter would throw up cold formula. So we got the boom bottle warmer. I realized how convenient that was for nighttime feedings. So now I plan on doing the same thing. Pre mixing bottles for st night then heating as necessary. It's not fun or easy mixing bottles at 2am.

  • pack n play. We have one that has a changing area and bassinet. Honestly we probably used it once like that. We didn't really use it again until our kids were a couple months older. I'd put the playmat in it and let them play on it while I'd vacuum the room or tidy up.

    Things you shouldn't register for:

  • clothes- if you register in a store like babies r us i wouldn't register for clothes. Most people like to pick out their own outfit. It's also very difficult to find the exact thing someone wants

  • more than one car seat. You probably will only end up using one car seat. I'd only say get a 2nd base if you and someone else will be switching off doing daycare drop offs and pickups

  • formula maker- I mentioned pre making bottles earlie. You can just shake them or use something like this. You don't need a crazy expensive keurig type formula maker. Everyone I know who has had one ends up saying it was a waste of $ and doesn't work right.

    Hope this starter list helps!

I use my phone at first then realized I couldn't creep on Reddit and then someone called me mid sleeping routine and I decided I needed a machine. Boom this came the next day. Cheap, easy, portable!

u/Niflhe · 6 pointsr/giantbomb

The most useful things I remember from the first year or so were a white noise machine and this swaddle which let her sleep with her arms up but without smacking herself in the face repeatedly.

Also make sure that your car seat is installed and fitted properly before you give birth.

u/powerby · 6 pointsr/beyondthebump

Not sure if this is big enough, but we use this for a lovie for our daughter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001RHYR7M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They have other animals, too!

Tip for whatever ends up working for you: get a few! If baby get's attached it's good to have a back up!

Of all the nursery themes I've seen I love this most of all. The Small world disney ride has the warmest memories. For my baby I made a crib mobile and bought a musical mobile spinner and Its a small world is one of the songs, it would be perfect for your room!

Omg this thing has been his favorite since he was 3 weeks old. He still goes nuts over it at 4 months. It keeps him entertained longer than anything else in the house.

I love my boppy, my LO is 11 weeks and I’ve used it for breastfeeding every day. He also does tummy time on it because he hates laying on a flat surface and hangs out lounging on it. I get so much use out of this thing. It’s one of my favorite purchases. Boppy Nursing Pillow and Positioner, Sketch Slate Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075GLC4RK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ow2VCb8AT517E

If you’re gonna BF, instead of getting disposable pads I got these washable ones which are velour on the inside so they’re soft on your nipples, and they are good at absorption. They have different shapes for different amounts of protection, I wouldn’t get any of them except the blue rounds “overnight” ones because they are the most absorbable. This baby tub is awesome because it folds flat (i live in a NYC apt and space is very dear!) and it also has a little hammock so you don’t have to hold the baby the whole time he’s bathing. My baby loves this mobile. It’s super engaging. Tiny Love Classic Mobile, Into The Forest https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0771N1BZW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_kB2VCbHCM9BJE

Baby is OBSESSED with this toy. We have it hanging over his changing table and he lays there and stares at it forever. It’s his absolute favorite thing. I’m serious. The only thing is I read that the ink on the eyes smear off if they put it in their mouth so I don’t plan on giving it to him to hold/play with but just as a distraction while he’s getting his diaper changed. But seriously he never gets tired of looking at it and it was the first thing that made him happy when he started being aware and I really recommend it. I have a standing bassinet and a cosleeper that I use in the bedroom depending on how baby sleeps. I usually start her in the standing bassinet, if she sleeps through the night (5/7 nights) she stays in (obviously) but if she needs a quick feed she’ll usually just stay in bed/cosleeper with us. We also have a pack and play and two rock and plays on the first floor that get shifted around. She used to sleep in the bassinet portion of the PNP but now we just use that as a diaper station. She’s only two months old now so I’m sure she’ll get more use out of the bottom portion when she’s much older.

u/WaterBearDontMind · 4 pointsr/BabyBumps

There is no rush to buy toys as others have said. Tummy time should begin at birth and you could try to get toys that will hold LO’s attention in that position before they learn to reach for things:

  • B&W books like this one
  • A mirror that can be propped vertically at infant eye level
  • A tummytime pillow in the same shape as Boppy but smaller, goes under newborn armpits

Next up would be a playard (the Kick n Play Piano one was super popular in our Bumper group) to hang things overhead that they’ll eventually bat at or kick. The Manhattan Toys with lots of strings or loops are great first toys to grasp. You might also like some plastic chain links, which can be toys/teethers on their own at first and graduate to tools for tethering toys in the stroller/car seat.

I just recently bought this baby nest/lounger from amazon, Lietto Baby Premium Original price was 129.99 but it’s on sale for 94.99, it’s not as big of brand as dockatot or snuggleme but for the price is reasonable and not that expensive as the others.

u/TheJadedRose · 3 pointsr/beyondthebump

Definately put burp cloths under his head basically whenever you put them down. I used the smallish like 4 inch wide Gerber burp cloths that you can buy in like 4 packs. I would put one under her head and then just toss them in the laundry once they were inevitably ruined.

As for me and my clothes, we used the flannel receiving blankets. they make excellent burp cloths, super absorbent, and the cover ALOT.

My 3 year old has this lamb. He got it when he was 3 months old. We have gone through at least 7 of them. Finding this thing on Amazon was a god send because he somehow manages to lose them despite our diligence.

A few things I'd like to recommend that I haven't seen on here yet. An amazing swaddle alternative is the Love to Dream Swaddle Up. If your baby likes to be swaddled great, go with that! But if you're in my situation and have a baby that likes the comfort of a swaddle, but hates having their arms trapped to their sides, this thing is a lifesaver. I can't say enough how much of a difference this thing made for my baby sleeping.

A white noise machine is also key to getting a baby to sleep. You can also use an Echo or Google Home by asking it to play rain sounds or white noise. Rain white noise worked best for us.

u/call_me_cthulhu_ · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

hahaha id be thinking the same thing! im convinced there is a ghost in our house. my daughter has a mobile on her crib that's battery operated. its this one. as you can see the only way to turn it on is by pressing the buttons on the front and/or by pressing the button on the remote. until recently she slept in a bassinet in our room so I had time to get her nursery perfected. anyway i had the mobile attached to the crib but because she didn't sleep in there i hung the remote on the door handle so i wouldn't misplace it. so i was putting clothes away in her dresser and the mobile just turns on. the dresser btw is about 8ft from her crib and about 6ft from the door so theres no way i could've either pressed the button on accident or touched the remote. just altogether freaks me out.

u/mollyjoon · 2 pointsr/beyondthebump

My mom and mom-in-law always told me that he would grow out of it... at 15 months, he sure did! Every baby is different, give love more than anything! :)

Still needs to grow out of bottles at nighttime, though...

Edit to add: He seemed to really take to this new mobile I got for him that I saw on Homeland (lol), it totally soothes him right down to sleep town.

u/tacos4everalways · 2 pointsr/beyondthebump

We tried the halo. We hate the halo.

Is she rolling over? As far as I know, that's the only reason to stop swaddling. Our LO is 4 months and has started going from belly to back, so we're still swaddling at night using the Love to Dream Swaddle. The fabric is strong/elastic enough that even when he TRIES to pull it, it keeps his arms snuggle in place. If you can afford it, try it. Maybe read reviews first.

We use something like this https://www.amazon.com/Bearington-Lamby-Plush-Security-Blankie/dp/B001RHYR7M/ref=pd_sim_75_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B001RHYR7M&pd_rd_r=0AKX0C6DYF43QSC9R74A&pd_rd_w=ZgOHp&pd_rd_wg=Y6rEw&psc=1&refRID=0AKX0C6DYF43QSC9R74A&dpID=418KfwzVSML&preST=_SX342_QL70_&dpSrc=detail for a lovey. basically a security blanket. I only let him use it when I can watch him/he's napping and has one arm out because he has pulled it over his face and then yelled at us to move it...

u/tizz66 · 2 pointsr/SnooLife

I'm sure you already know, but if she's able to roll over then she shouldn't be swaddled any more - even in the Snoo. You should switch to the medium or large sacks and have her arms out. That can take babies a little while to get used to though. In our case he wasn't really comfortable with it for a couple of weeks. We started with one arm out, and locked the motion at the lowest level (otherwise if he cried, it got fast and his arm thrashed all over the place!)

As for transitioning to the crib... for us it happened by necessity. We were away from home for a night, so took his pack'n'play. We weren't sure how it was going to go, but had no other choice. But it went great! Our boy was clearly ready to sleep on his tummy and despite being in a new bed in a new surrounding, he slept almost as long as in the Snoo. Because of that, we decided to do his naps in the crib once we got home, and then a week or so later transition fully (we used the Wean mode on the Snoo for that week).

Like you, we were so reluctant to give up the Snoo. Sleep is so important to us, and we were worried we'd be going back to step one with him. But it wasn't like that at all - it was far easier than we anticipated.

We got him some sleep sacks (this is the one we bought but Halo/Carters/etc. all make similar things too) to give him that comfort that the Snoo sack provided too.

Good luck!

Check Etsy!! I ordered a custom one from Etsy (my nursery theme is puppies, but colors are navy, pink, and grey - all generic puppy type stuff for babies is very masculine looking so I custom ordered) that I LOVE. It was $56 but it's absolutely perfect and exactly what I wanted because it's custom.

I hung it from the ceiling and bought this music box thingy that I tied between the mobile itself and the ribbon affixing it to the ceiling hook. It plays music, and spins the mobile. I like it a lot.

I have a video of the mobile going if you want it. I ordered on Etsy from this shop, GraceAnnBaby but she's since moved to Amazon Handmade instead of Etsy. She did a great job! It did take about 2 months from when I placed the order to receiving it though.

Lol I went through my amazon order history, here’s the link: link

u/manmachine87 · 2 pointsr/beyondthebump

We used the Carters flannel swaddles (they call them receiving blankets). The muslin ones are way too big and stretchy and ours also hated the Velcro at first. She started to outgrow the Carters ones around 3 months and we switched her to a Velcro halo sleep sack which she suddenly was ok with. Possibly because she’d been kicking her legs out by that point anyway? Who knows, but that only lasted about a month because we had to stop swaddling her at 4 months anyway.

Here’s what we used:

Simple Joys by Carter's Baby Unisex 7-Pack Flannel Receiving Blankets, Grey/White/Mint, One Size https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MREOH8C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_NqUYAbGSAA3B6

ETA: I just wanted to add that they’re softer and thinner than the hospital ones, but they are just as tight.

u/strangetosay · 2 pointsr/waiting_to_try

I worry about that balancing act, too (we also have two cats). I have already decided I'm getting one of those safety tent things for the crib because I know my cats will be all up in it, and as cute as those internet videos are of cats sleeping with babies, I'm just not OK with it if I'm not supervising.

I worked in childcare for many years (still do as as side gig) and know that when the dog starts barking, baby starts crying, cats start meowing, and 8 million other things go wrong, my patience will wear thin. If I need a minute, the baby won't die from being laid down and crying for an extra 60 seconds, and my pets will survive that minute too.

I think kids who grow up loving animals have a very strong sense of compassion, empathy, and even responsibility. It's all worth it!

I got this when mine was about 9 months old, I wish I had it sooner:

https://smile.amazon.com/Playpen-Activity-Outdoor-multicolour-Classic/dp/B06WWQCYSC/

I posted about it before here, and everyone told me she'll hate it in a few months.

I am happy to report that she LOVES it now at 20 months just as much as she did then. It's her happy little places.

As of last week, she figured out how to open the door, so unfortunately we can no longer use it for a "sorry mama has to take a call real quick". But she still loves playing in it with the door open, and we used it for safe playpen purposes for over a year.

And she always napped in the crib.

u/jobie285 · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

It's a little portable one that hooks on to the bars. Nope, it wouldn't have to sit in the crib. (But, it could.) You could even just put it on the floor near the crib, I'd think.

Our daycare won't (aka can't legally) swaddle, or even use a sleep sack, but this was ok.

I got this owl thing for our son. We've been using it for nearly 2 years and it works great. It has some built in basic options for white noise that it can play and it also has a Bluetooth speaker. It charges via usb cable so you can take it on trips and stuff as well.

My daughter used this Tummy Tub 'til she was around 3 (she's a tiny bit in the short side). That seemed to help. I still use it as a barrier between her and the faucet, making bubbles to pour into the big bath, and to have a ready reservoir of rinse water on hair-washing nights. She also likes digging the water out of it to splash.

We still use something very similar to this folding bathtub in our regular tub to this day. Also wastes less water. And the Tummy Tub is used to collect the water from the faucet and pour it in from.

We have a spout cover, too, and it makes me less nervous, but she also went through a phase of jerking it off, making it pointless.

I wanted us to get one of these organisers, since they service as a kind of barrier as well as a distraction.

Paints/crayons helped.

Good luck!
