Luckily for you, DanganRonpa is a very basic series to get in to. Mainly, at least. I'm gonna go ahead and run through it here, in case you or anyone else wants to save this to reference in the future so you don't have to google questions.

DanganRonpa is primarily a visual novel murder mystery video game series. In them, you will play as school aged characters, make relationships, then watch all of your favorite characters die and be forced to figure out which of your other friends killed them. I won't say any more about the plot, but it's somewhat Saw-esque, in that people are trapped, yadda yadda. No torture porn, though. For the most part, at least.

The first title, and the one you would play first, is DanganRonpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. This is available for PS Vita as a physical release or digital download, but it was also ported to PS4 on the Danganronpa 1.2 Reload disc. Either works.

The next game in the series is DanganRonpa 2: Goodbye Despair. This is, if you ask me, a substantially better game than the first, and can again be bought for PS Vita physically or digitally, and was released with DR1 on the 1.2 Reload Disc I mentioned earlier. The PS4 version is pretty much the first two games bundled and released on PS4, since the series had been handheld only until then.

Also, if you're interested, Danganronpa 1 & 2 were originally Japan-only PSP games, and the Vita versions are actually enhanced ports. But we never got the originals. I digress.

Next up would be DanganRonpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls, which I honestly can't recommend. Instead of being a visual novel, it's an odd third person shooter, and it's not a murder mystery or anything. The plot also ended up not being important. I would say just read a plot summary when you get to this point (not early, it'll spoil the first two games), and move on, but if you want this can be bought for Vita (the original release) or PS4 (a recent port).

Next up is DanganRonpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak Academy. This is an odd one since it's actually an anime. They wanted to wrap up the story arc they had going, but they didn't want to be tied down by making it an interactive game, so they made it an anime. You can easily find it all online, the only hard part is finding the order to watch it. The show was split up into two arcs, "Future", and "Despair", with the final episode being the only episode in the "Hope" arc. If you get to this point, here is an episode guide (be extremely cautious about scrolling on that page, as you might have it spoiled for you; I think that same page has a plot synopsis). Watch it in the order listed there and no other order. The anime was overall good, but it definitely had it's flaws.

Finally, we get to the upcoming release: DanganRonpa V3: Killing Harmony. It has a confusing name, I know. I think they should've just called it V4, since even though it's only the third main game, having two entries with a "3" in it is confusing. Either way, this will be another game like DanganRonpa 1 and 2, with an entirely new cast of characters and a brand new overarching plot (since the anime of DanganRonpa 3 finished the plot regarding the previous characters). It will be released on Vita and PS4 on 9/26. However, it's been out in Japan since 1/12 so many spoilers are present online; be careful!

And that's it! In the end, be extremely careful about looking up anything about the series, as knowing who lives or dies could ruin a lot of the fun of playing them. There's also a couple smaller short novels and misc. Media, but I don't think they're necessary and I don't even know much about them myself despite being a huge fan. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

On a side note, if you're interested I can also do a rundown of the Persona games and their releases if you want, as some of them have been released multiple times with different features. Just ask if you want me to! I know it was frustrating for me when I had to do a bunch of google searches to find all the information the first time.

EDIT: Oh my god I can't believe I completely forgot the steam releases! Along with the PS4 (which I did mention), DanganRonpa 1, 2, and Another Episode have all been ported to steam this year, so they are also available to play on PC if you prefer doing so.

Its an issue in the states as well, even amazon has no release for the walking dead bundle at this time. Nobody can give me a straight answer as to why. See

Well the Vita price is ~$40 so it's only PS4 users who would have paid that much for it normally. I have a Vita I just prefer it on Steam (so I can play alongside my boyfriend easily). I'll probably wait to get it at the Vita price whenever the Steam price goes down because this is the price I would have bought it at to begin with.

As of a few weeks ago (December 23? I don't remember, holidays were a blur for me) I believe it's out on vita and ps3, with a steam version expected, though I'm not positive about that. It might bank on how wells Trails in the Sky does/did. No steam version expected (sorry about that).

I'm not 100% sure, but you might be able to buy the LE from Amazon US since Amazon still has it in stock. I used a random UK address, and the order total was ~51 USD for the PS4 version and ~64 USD for the Vita version, and that includes import & shipping fees.

If you have an Amazon UK account, you should be able to use that same login information for Amazon US. And during checkout, it's usually cheaper if you pay for the order in USD & and let your credit card calculate the exchange rate to GBP, rather than paying in GBP using Amazon's Currency Converter. The amount you can save depends on what sort of non-sterling transaction fees your credit card charges, but even after accounting for any fees, your credit card will typically offer a better rate than Amazon.

NOTE: You can still find cheap used copies if you don't want it new.

In that case, grab the Lionheart Edition if you're going to be paying $40-$60. You might as well grab the best edition. These are still brand new, and you get extras. The game alone would be too expensive, but a limited edition... Now that's worth it.

(Almost $60 on PlayAsia) - You can use a coupon.

What YS games are you looking for? I saw one for $19.99.

The Danganronpa series is pretty highly regarded.

Tearaway is also a good choice. Really utilizes the Vita capabilities well.

a used: very good copy is currently available on amazon for $37.40 + $4.50 shipping.

if you'd rather deal with eBay, here is a used copy for $37.99 shipped.

u/texaspenguin · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

My board game wish goes above the limit, as it tips the scales as $36, it's Ghost Stories as it can be played solo and not everyone I know is a tabletop gamer and sometimes I just want to be able to play something by myself. ;)

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward looks like a lot of fun and I had a really good time with 999, it's predecessor!

My favorite game is... the Ratchet and Clank or the Uncharted series. I had a lot of fun with those games. Also Borderlands. And Diablo. And...argh, too many to decide!!!

Not sure if you have heard of this game (The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel), but it bears alot of similarities to Persona series in terms of social link, calendar, and school system while retaining apparently great RPG mechanics.

Game got reviewed well, and the special edition is on sale for $40 on Amazon at the moment. I somehow missed this game and will probably pick it up in the coming month. The vita version was released in December and number 2 of the series is released this fall.

All of the reasonably priced ones ship from japan, Amazon's is insanely expensive... I've found the best deals on Ebay or import sites tbh, there is a guy selling Gundam Breaker used for $52 shipped on Ebay which is where I was going to get it from, but then I saw the "The Best" edition one up on Playasia

Welcome back!

Here's my list of suggestions, why, and links to where to get them. A few are only available on computer, but you'll see which ones:

  • Thomas Was Alone (Meta. A cute puzzle game about AIs, and their relationship to the game and developers. It's simple in graphics and big on heart. = computer - itunes - android
  • The Stanley Parable (another meta game. About the players role in games itself and their relationship to the developers. This is a MUST HAVE for anyone who is really into games. It's fantastic, hilarious and oddly artsy) = computer -
  • Telltale's "The Walking Dead" seasons 1 & 2. (These are some of the best games I've played. Point and Click adventure games that everyone loves, even those who don't like point and click games. They are extremely emotional and heart-pounding. I recommend it highly, especially if you want a game that you can watch him play, or vice versa, and really get a fantastic story. Storyline continues based on your decisions in the previous game) = SEASON ONE: computer - PS3 - XBOX360 - PSVITA - iPhone/iPad (first episode free, others are in-game purchases, same with all the mobile games) - Android === SEASON 2: computer - PS3 - XBOX360 - iPhone/iPad - Android
  • To The Moon (sweet looking 16 bit game that is more of an interactive story. It routinely makes people cry because it's so darned sweet. Love is a central theme.) = computer
  • Borderlands 2 and/or Borderlands the PreSequel (both fun and funny FPS games that you can run coop if you like) = BORDERLANDS 2: computer - XBOX360 - PS3 === BORDERLANDS PRESEQUEL: computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Portal (fun and funny puzzle game - but he MAY have already played this if the Half-Life 2 he got was the full "The Orange Box")
  • Portal 2 (also fun and funny, but with a coop mode as well) = computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Fallout 3 and/or Fallout: New Vegas (Post apocolypic games that are fun and often funny. They are open world RPGs with FPS playing style, although you can switch to 3rd person. Fallout 3 is more epic, grand and is more metropolitan, and Fallout New Vegas is more like a spaghetti western, intimate, and has better writing/storyline in my opinion) = FALLOUT 3: computer - XBOX360 - PS3 == FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS: computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Mass Effect 1, 2, & 3 (RPG/FPS set the future, in space, where the storyline continues, using your decisions from the previous games) = computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Red Dead Redemption (an open world RPG/FPS that takes pages from both spaghetti westerns and film noir. If you get this, be sure to get the add on called "Undead Nightmare", where you fight Zombies and meet mythical creatures. The base game is more artsy, and Undead Nightmare is just a squat load of fun.) The links that follow have both thenormal game, and Undead Nightmare in one. = XBOX360 - PS3

  • A different idea is to actually get him a wireless controller for his phone! If he has an Andriod, I would suggest the Power A Moga Hero Power It's portable, holds the phone, and I just am in love with mine. And because I have an Andriod, I can download ROMs to play older games like Zelda: Ocarina of Time, etc etc. But the controller works with SO many games! If he has an iPhone or iPad, or if you want another option for Android, I would go with the iPega. I don't have one, but it has the highest reviews.

As for if you should give 1 or 2 gifts, I think 2 might be a lot of fun! But it might depend on what the "1st place" person has on their list and what you want to give them! I'd say make the decision based off of what you want to give the main winner! =)

    ===========

EDIT - 3DS Games to consider:

  • Fire Emblem: Awakening - it's one of the best RPGs out for the 3DS. It's immersive and epic. Top reviews across the board.
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf because everyone loves it so much and it's just adorable.
  • Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney because anything Phoenix Wright related is flipping amazing and totally fun.
  • Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance A great option if he's played other Kingdom Hearts games.
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Especially if he's into Zelda, I agree with others that this is a nice option. Top-down action that returns to Zelda's roots.

edit 2: P.S: I'm new. I'll be making an intro post hopefully tonight! So hopefully it's alright that I posted here first. I was just excited, as I'm a gamer and love helping people with what to play next. In any event... HI!!

edit 3: I just made my [INTRO] post. It's here if you/anyone's interested.

They still exist, but they're not cheap:

  • Play-Asia -$400

  • Filtered eBay Search - $285 is the lowest for a bundle with The Walking Dead. Note that there were several more from Japanese eBay sellers, but I'm always cautious about importing through eBay.

  • Amazon - $300 for the Walking Dead bundle
u/goevl · 1 pointr/vita

After I found it on that site, I actually found it on Amazon. It doesn't show up in the search results... I found it through a Deal App and tracked it to Amazon. Amazon is selling it for $43 new.

Edit, basically Amazon search results gives you the $100 copy. I found it for $40 new too.
