You can use purple shampoo and conditioner (if you're in the US they have it at Sally Beauty) to try and keep the brassy-ness away. For all my hair dying, I've liked using OGX as far as a sulfate-free option.

Your color is just lovely!

I would really give this a try, I never saw anyone mention it here: Grandpa's Pine Tar shampoo. I even use their pine tar conditioner even though I read on here conditioner was bad, no issues for me with this one. I got the pack without the soap btw.

I was reading a medical study on hair loss and seborrheic dermatitis and another type of seborrhea (forgot the name) which can cause hair loss. I read they saw good results with Pine tar, so I went to the web and found that brand on Amazon. SO affordable, free of several bad things for the scalp, and I have not had an itchy scalp since. I alternate with a ginger shampoo but people seem to use it daily. I also only eat meat and fat now, so it could be both, but even when I take a couple days break from the diet I don't have scalp issues. Worth a shot!

Hey, fellow swimmer here. 5x/week I wear a cap also, but chlorine makes it way. I’m not familiar with the CG method but I’ll share what I’ve been doing for the past six months that has dramatically changed my hair. In fact I was about to post a picture because I’m having a great hair day haha.

So, I switched to broo, a beer based shampoo
It’s sulfate-free, paraben-free, phthalates-Free, dye-free and no artificial fragrances. Vegan and cruelty-free.

And the Lush Godiva shampoo barmostly because I don’t want so much plastic waste.

So because I’m swimming everyday I’ll use the shampoo/conditioner every other or two days. But I’ll always wash out the chlorine right after I come out of the pool with clean water and I’ll style it with the Lush R&B. I’ll also do touch ups on dry hair with the cream.

So what I’ve seen is, better more defined curls. Less frizz. Less dandruff and irritation (I was using head and shoulders and a styling cream). Much more shine, less split ends and hair loss.

I say try washing it every other day, though always “cleansing” the chlorine away and see how it goes. I would recommend the cream to style and hydrate it even if you’re not washing it. It’s very dense, made with avocado butter, oatmeal, oliva oil it really keeps the hair hydrated which is great when exposed to chlorine.

I have had my hair every shade of red for the last 8 or so years. Here are a few tips/tricks off the top of my head.

-Use a sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfates are the main culprit for pulling out your color. I use Enjoy, however it is kind of pricey.

-You can also use a color depositing shampoo which will actually add some vibrancy back into your hair in between dying. I use this shampoo by Tressa Watercolors.

-Wash your hair in as cold of water as you can stand. Hot water opens the cuticles/pores of your hair, causing the color to fade faster. I actually wash my hair separately in cold water, clip it up when I'm done and then crank the heat for the rest of my shower.

-I'd also recommend a good deep conditioner. Right now I'm using this cheapy 3 Minute Miracle by Aussie, but it really works wonders in my opinion.

Lastly, I suggest you invest in a red towel or some other dark color. I have a set of red towels specifically for my hair after having stained many a white towel.

Not OP, but I have 3C hair and used to use like 50 different products to control my frizz and curls. My little brother was watching Shark Tank and called me and told me about [this stuff] (Controlled Chaos Bundle Package: Deep Cleansing Shampoo, Hydrating Conditioner and Curl Smoothing Creme - As Seen on Shark Tank https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079QD667F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_JiwEDb3RXVM11). I'm loving it so far.

Yes, straightening seems to be a thing the little ones hate. I grew up in Dominican Republic where the blow drying culture is real strong. Like on an island with rampant power outages, there will always be power at the hair salon XD No one knew or cared about curly hair until maybe the last 5 years I feel.

You can start with something small like Hask Argan Oil Vial. In fact, get the shampoos and conditioners from HASK (they are very affordable) The lines I like are the coconut milk and the honey yogurt line. You can find so many options in Walgreens. As a general rule though, try to stay away from the shampoos/conditioners with oils stated in their names ( coconut oil, monoi oil, argan oil). We tend to think oil will nourish hair and put lots of it on, but then it works against us by weighing the hair down. Slowly incorporate it in other products only if the hair is still looking dry. Additionally Devacurl Ultra Defining Gel and Its a 10 Leave In.Be aware though that you might want to buy this one in stores. People do take the product out and fill the bottle with cheap conditioner and return it. If you try it and its a dud, go back to the store and exchange it. You'll know when its the real deal. -- Also when you apply leave-in you want to spritz 2-3 times in your hand, spread it, feel is it enough, and then maybe add more.

You can ask me any beauty questions \^_\^ I know all the things

I am not sure if this is good for extensions. I use this on my hair after the gym or when I straighten my hair and it keeps my scalp from itching or feeling dirty. https://www.amazon.com/Its-10-Miracle-Shampoo-Conditioner/dp/B00D8DSDHS

Change your shampoo. I recommend OLX Moroccan Argan Oil. These bottles will last you a long, long, long time because they're concentrated.

https://www.amazon.com/OGX-Organix-Morocco-Shampoo-Conditioner/dp/B00OU0IHQU/ref=sr_1_6_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1518576240&sr=8-6&keywords=ogx+moroccan+argan+oil+shampoo&dpID=516pMIGuCIL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

You don't have to wash your hair every time you shower; you can just shampoo a couple times (or less) a week and either just rinse it between times or use a "co-wash" like this stuff:

https://www.amazon.com/Pantene-Pro-V-Truly-Natural-Co-Wash/dp/B00IOYI1LO/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1518576347&sr=1-1&keywords=pantene+cowash&dpID=41R9M-11-FL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Stop rubbing your hair with that towel! Just squeeze your hair with it. Yeah, it's still going to be pretty damp. Now rub a couple drops of this on your palms:

https://www.amazon.com/OGX-Renewing-Penetrating-Sustainable-Ingredients/dp/B005DYJZ7M/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1518576435&sr=1-4&keywords=argan+oil+of+morocco&dpID=412vEqXkxwL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

and wipe your palms on your head and then comb your fingers through your hair.

Done! Oh, you want styling products?

https://www.amazon.com/Pantene-Natural-Defining-Styling-Packaging/dp/B012DD93QI/ref=sr_1_1?srs=7301146011&ie=UTF8&qid=1518576516&sr=8-1&keywords=pantene+custard

Scoop up about a teaspoon of this, rub it between your hands, bend over, and then squeeze this into your hair, moving your hands around to make sure you get all your hair. Yeah, sounds weird, but it really works better than rubbing it in. Now finger-comb, and let dry.

Teatree stuff works pretty well for me, it gives a nice shine. Giovanni can be picked up at Target and I love using the Aveda shampure or Rosemary+Mint line when I treat myself. You can get the Aveda stuff for about 13.50 at their boutiques, so Amazon is the more expensive option in this case. As far as product goes, I like using the Bumble and Bumble invisible oil. It's a bit much, but it'll last you forever.

I brush and floss in the morning and evening, and floss at lunchtime.

You need to take better care of your oral hygiene. It literally only takes a few minutes. Also, it might save your life.

You state in another place in this thread that you don't regularly shower. You need to be showering every day. I'm not sure what your situation is, but these are things that you should have learned by middle school at the latest, and preferably in grade school.

Please do the following, for yourself:

Go to the dentist.

Get a new soft-bristled toothbrush (every six months), a tube of toothpaste, and floss, and start brushing and flossing at least every morning and every night. Also, a lot of people brush incorrectly.

Here's a video showing the proper brushing technique.

Here's a video showing the proper flossing technique

For showering:

  • pair of exfoliating shower gloves
  • body soap (NOT a 3-in-1 shampoo/conditioner/body wash)
  • face wash
  • and a shampoo and condition (they should NOT be in the same bottle)].

    For skincare:

  • A face moisturizer with SPF
  • an exfoliator for your face (do NOT use the gloves on your face)
  • a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30
  • a night cream

Clip your fingernails and toenails, and use an emory board to smooth the sides of the clipped nails.

These are the minimum things you need for a basic level of care.

Shower every morning, use the gloves with the body wash, and once you are dry and you've brushed your teeth, use the Stridex, wait ten minutes, then use the A.M. moisturizer (with the SPF). At night, use the night cream.

You don't need to use the brands I listed. They are just a place to start, ones I have personally used and liked, but they are not the only ones. If you want to know more about building a skincare routine, /r/Skincare_Addiction has great resources in its sidebar. What works for one person may not work for another, so read, experiment, and build your routine.

Take some pride in how you present yourself and care for yourself. You owe it not only those around you, but to yourself, to do better and be the best you can be.

I love Organix. I use the Thick and Full now, which has totally changed my hair. I have a lot of hair and it's very full, so my first instinct is to always want less or finer hair. But my hair is actually really fine, so finally I started on this shampoo/conditioner and my hair looks great, even if I let it air dry.

u/lemonparade · 2 pointsr/xxfitness

They do! Like I said, I love it and I think it's reasonably priced. If you haven't already looked, you can get two on Amazon for $38.50
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00D8DSDHS/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1484848768&sr=8-1&keywords=its+a+10+dry+shampoo+and+conditioner

u/J_Rhix · 2 pointsr/CurlyHairUK

I have used the UK product list to see which shampoo & conditioner I should buy ( the above are on the list of CG approved) but I am not sure the best method to apply and if I need anything more to help me get started?
I nearly brought the £40 Deva curl shampoo and conditioner set :
https://www.amazon.co.uk/DevaCurl-How-Quit-Shampoo-236/dp/B001NZYAYI/ref=asc_df_B001NZYAYI/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310776493634&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11314135146054483987&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045483&hvtargid=pla-617140403967&psc=1

but I think this is a bit expensive for a beginner.

u/lyra310 · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Ugh I’m glad someone else can relate to my pain!🤣

Hahaha glad I’m not the only one with different curls!! I know it’s really more common than you’d think, it’s still weird. I’ve tried some Carol’s Daughter stuff before! I haven’t in a while, but yeah I liked it, too. You should keep your eyes out for an Ulta 20% off coupon and then pick up some of the trial/travel size bottles. They’re a prestige brand so not every coupon works with them, but it’s worth it just to try. OR I think I actually got a set of them off amazon the very first time?? Something like the DevaCurl 3oz Kit For All Curl Kind or the DevaCurl How to Quit Shampoo, Cleanse & Condition Kit, too. I think there were also some single individual trial sizes, too.

Last time I bought this: https://www.amazon.com/Malibu-Wellness-Treatment-Shampoo-Conditioner/dp/B00194Q7BC?th=1

I think the powdered demineralizer treatment in the packet while the harshest was the most effective and so I might just buy it next time. Interestingly it's mostly citric acid powder which I buy cheap by the pound on Amazon for demineralizing the dishwasher (hard water is the worst) and so I've been thinking about trying a cheaper DIY treatment. If getting this I'd suggest buying the shampoo and treatment separately rather than in the kit- I ended up not using the conditioner because it had dimethicone in it. I hear Sally Beauty also carries hard water stuff.

u/Algae-e · 2 pointsr/HaircareScience

Hard water will SCREW your hair. If you haven't been continuing with the calcium drain, there's a really good chance it could be the source! I bought Malibu Hard Water Shampoo and Conditioner from this seller on Amazon while I lived in the high lime area, and I never had a problem with my hair being all greasy and nasty after that. I put it off for ages and kept buying other things, tried vinegar, tried everything short of a water softener. This shampoo fixed me. I seriously recommend it.

u/geoff1036 · 1 pointr/AskMen

I use Old Spice Shea Butter on my skin and Herbal Essences on my hair. The old spice smells girly but IDGAF, that shit smells like shea butter. The Herbal Essences is supposed to be girly, but it actually smells pretty male/neutral. And it works well, my hair is 👌.

u/neerajgrover · 1 pointr/HaircareScience

Do you suggest any shampoo conditioner combo, my dandruff ain't that bad and historically it always have gone away after a month or so. I'm worried getting an anti-dandruff will worsen my dry situation.

I already have started applied oils on my hair (argon & coconut), ordered a shower filter too. Just my shampoo ran out so need to get a new men's shampoo for short hair.

I figured this might serve my purpose - https://www.amazon.com/Head-Shoulders-Conditioner-Treatment-Collection/dp/B07NJ5J3PP/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=anti-dandruff+conditioner&qid=1571937830&sr=8-7

u/Hammerthrowaway1234 · 1 pointr/Hair

Sorry, didn’t mean for that to sound rude at all. I just know how upsetting it was when it broke and honestly I would never ever try anything outside of the salon again especially with bleach!

Here’s what I use for my hair. The line has a mask and a leave in conditioner too. Affordable too.

u/youhoo1234 · 1 pointr/ufl

No, I've tried these . They're ok, but not as good as Lush

u/Frenchbulldog716 · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

Makes sense, thank you for sharing! I have really liked this shampoo from Broo. I think I'll stick with this for as long as I keep loving it, and still use my Moroccan oil (or cheaper alternative) despite the silicones.

u/imabratinfluence · 1 pointr/curlyhair

I have eczema, and do have issues with it on my scalp. Prior to CG, I'd tried just about everything: coal tar shampoo in both liquid and bar forms, Head & Shoulders, Selsun Blue, tea tree shampoos both with and without sulfates. What ended up working for me is Nizoral. It's a ketaconazole shampoo.

I used Niz 2x a week when I first started. Before going CG, I'd been using Nizoral for about 2 years. When I went CG, I was down to using Nizoral about once every 1-2 months. Since going CG and trying oil treatments, using conditioner and oils on my roots and scalp, having wet hair for hours at a time, I've had to use Nizoral closer to once a week.

I just started alternating it with Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat shampoo, and if I feel a little itchy between shampoo days I co-wash with the matching tea tree conditioner if it feels like build-up (instead of my Suave co-wash), or plan an oil treatment if it feels like my scalp is too dry.

Edit: Science-y Hair Blog has a post on this, along with some good notes about what product options have silicones, sulfates, proteins, etc in them. She even made special note of which products contain neem oil, because it can help but is potently stinky!

u/MAN_TO_GALAXY · 1 pointr/FierceFlow

You can try dry shampoo to extend the number of days between washes. Also if you haven't already, use a sulfate free shampoo like this

u/skalafurey · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I was using this and it made my hair nice smooth and shiny (I also had keratin treatment done on my hair) but it was making my hair too oily too fast in my opinion because my scalp is already pretty oily.. my hairdresser told me to use this so that's where i'm at. It's alright but i haven't noticed it reducing oiliness. idk the first one worked just fine and it was half the price.

u/lbeaty1981 · 1 pointr/AskMen

I use this shampoo and conditioner, and it does a good job of keeping the frizz down. If I'm going to be outside on a windy day, I'll use a little Frizz Ease to weigh it down a little more.

u/sundayfunday39 · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

I did Brazilian keratin at home about 2 months ago, it's so dang good. I got a kit on amazon that was around 80 bucks and it has enough for around 3 uses on long hair.

Not too sure about other options, but I figured I throw it out there. This is the stuff I used https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007KB8ZW2/ref=mp_s_a_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1503850315&sr=8-4&keywords=brazilian+keratin

u/sthsthsth · 1 pointr/HaircareScience

I have used this one on myself and many friends, I'm a fan:

https://www.amazon.com/Complex-Brazilian-Keratin-Treatment-Bottles/dp/B007KB8ZW2/ref=sr_1_7_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1510612129&sr=1-7&keywords=brazilian+keratin+treatment&dpID=51HWS6GntBL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

You can find many instruction videos online on how to do it. Be aware though that using these treatments really "ruins" your curl pattern, so if you ever wear your hair curly it will destroy that pattern for years to come. I don't ever wear mine curly, so its been a god send to me. The bottle will last 3-4 treatments, I do it once every 6-8 months or longer.

u/ebbee · 1 pointr/HaircareScience

I totally forgot to answer your original question! I used the Keratin Complex line. The vanilla bean conditioner was fantastic and I still used it sometimes.
