Uh... hello friend. I just bought this because my life. I crochet to keep my hands busy while I netflix! And I definitely also use cardio, you know, to give myself room for that pinot grigio (dry whites have lower calories than other wines).

Also if you eat back your calories with cardio I highly recommend a heart rate monitor. I got this one for Christmas and it's been my new favorite thing.

So where's the flak for Amazon?

u/TwistedPox · 4 pointsr/Fitness

I second a chest strap. All of the watches and bands are based on optical measurement rather than electrical. They are rather susceptible to movement artifacts since they measure changes in blood volume rather than electrical activity. Chest straps use a modified lead I and, provided good contact, will be more accurate and less prone to movement artifacts. In this case I'd use a bluetooth monitor like the Wahoo Tickr. The bluetooth monitors can write to your phones stock health app which should have a histogram. I'm not sure if you'll find any kind of alerting but you can get an idea of what's happened with the histogram.

Eccentriczebpajamas, congrats!

Fellow hEDS, got married last July (pre-diagnosis), and I think I’ve got some ideas for you:

For the shoes, not sure where to look - I have really HUGE feel (size 12-13 women’s), so I struggled too, but ended up finding a cheap pair that looked great and kinda worked for me. They were tolerable but not comfortable, and I regret not focusing more time on finding a better pair.

For the registry, I’ve had really good luck with the OXO Good Grips series of stuff (their handles are chunky enough that I don’t tend to sublux my fingers, even gripping hard)

The can opener I use is a blue version of this one: (OXO Good Grips Can Opener https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004OCJW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_5-Z.zbZ5E94HD)

They also have a kitchen starter set that might be good to work with:(OXO Good Grips 15-Piece Everyday Kitchen Tool Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000IELD9A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Ka0.zbT8JYQX5)

When I can cook, I use these gloves instead of potholders - they’re great for the heat, don’t require as much hand strength/fine motor skills as potholders would, and also do a great job at gripping/opening stuck can lids: (Silicone Oven Gloves Extra Thick Heat Resistant Oven Mitts from Aocome, for Cooking Grilling BBQ and Baking, Quilted Cotton Lining, Waterproof Non-Slip Grip Food Grade Safe 1 Pair https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J76A9AI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_id0.zbEAKKA40)

For sitting, this chair is my favorite. Looks goofy, but hurts WAY less than anything else I’ve tried:
(Gaiam Balance Ball Chair - Classic Yoga Ball Chair with 52cm Stability Ball, Pump & Exercise Guide for Home or Office, Purple https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006FFR37W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_6e0.zb9Y7MDYQ)

A WiFi blood pressure monitor like the one from Nokia (I have the older Withings version) can be great for helping keep track of your overall health (along with things like FitBits, WiFi thermometers, etc., if you’re into that: (Nokia BPM+ – Compact Wireless Blood Pressure Monitor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071F2MC29/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Qg0.zb3J5YKKN)

Finally, if you have room, a shower stool can be super helpful if you spend too many spoons in one place and struggle to stand up in the shower (there are lots of types, including pretty wooden ones, but this type is really easy to assemble): (Medokare Shower Stool with Padded Seat - Shower Seats for Seniors with Tote Bag, Shower Bench Bath Chair, Handicap Shower Seat for Adults, Shower Stools and Benches https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XXZQ4XS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_mj0.zb5C9TRYX)

Oh! And bonus last-minute add: overhead lights that you can turn off from your phone, so you can go to bed and THEN turn off the lights, instead of trying to fumble your way across your room in the dark (they can also turn your room into a bright rainbow disco, if you’re into that): (Philips Hue 464479 60W Equivalent White and Color Ambiance A19 Starter Kit, 3rd Generation, Works with Amazon Alexa https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y3QXSGX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_0l0.zb2N2PB53)

Good luck, and I hope you have a wonderful wedding day!

...ETA, this set of pots and pans! They have big rubbery handles that are easy to work with, and they’re easy to clean - they can go straight into the dishwasher: (The Pioneer Woman Vintage Speckle 10-Piece Non-Stick Pre-Seasoned Cookware Set (Turquiose) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014X6NQI4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ov0.zb32WQSJ3)

My 2 cents. Get the Wahoo Tickr X ( link to amazon ).

It's around 70-80$ but you'll get:

  • ANT+ ( For older Concept2 PM's and stuff )
  • BT 4+ ( For modern stuff and PM5 )
  • Light indicators
  • Cadence sensor ( for running )
  • Build in memory
  • Multi connect mode ( u can use ANT and BT at the same time )

Only real downside I have with it is that the sensor is also the closing mechanism for the strap. So if you hit it and it comes lose the whole strap loosens.
u/kernozlov · 2 pointsr/steroids

Wrist mounted heart rate monitors suck. 75% accurate at best.

You want an ANT heart rate belt like this. But you need something ANT compatible to use it and I dont know of any phones that have ANT recievers.

My family and I use Suunto Ambit 2 watches. Its a full blown fitness computer. Fuull GPS, run tracking, heart rate monitor.

This is what I got.

Fitness Tracker, Heart Rate Monitor Watch, Sokos Bluetooth Smart Fitness Tracker Armband | Wristband | Bracelet with OLED Display and free iOS Android APP https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EHVE5NA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_16rNxb79B8M7E

It has a pedometer, heart rate monitor, calorie counter, distance walked, it keeps track of your sleep patterns and let's you know your habits. The battery lasts a long time, it alerts you to texts, Facebook messenger, phone calls, Twitter, etc and let's you preview messages. The app has worked flawlessly for me so far and this thing seems ridiculously accurate.

Here's a couple of screenshots of the app.

I think all of polar's chest strap monitors available for purchase separately, are waterproof and can be used for swimming. Best of all , it will work with the polar app. but it's around $80.. ANT and BT

u/toybuilder · 1 pointr/pelotoncycle

I got the Peloton HRM as part of the bundle. As long as you take proper care of it (rinse always, wash as needed), and unclip it after each use, it should work pretty well. I think it has received a bad rap because the proper care of the band is not mentioned (AFAIK; or at least easily missed).

The $10-$15 replacement straps sold on Amazon should work fine to replace your missing strap... But you might consider putting that money toward a different HRM altogether. (Example: https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Replacement-Monitor-Adjustable-Elastic/dp/B07L1FLB1J)

u/geuze4life · 1 pointr/running

great, two wahoo TICKR recommendations so far.

just to clarify, I would only replace the strap with the elektrodes itself, not the sensor. On my garmin strap the electrodes are beginning to fall off because the glue does not stand up to the washing machine.

Garmin recommend washing the strap every 7 runs but if I would have done that it would have been trash a long time ago.

some options I have found:

garmin

polar

generic

I use a Sunny B1805 that I got on sale at Home Depot for $500 plus tax.

Other miscellaneous items I have bought that I think really enhance the experience:

  • Wahoo cadence sensor that I attached to one of the crank arms
  • Scosche Rhythm 24 heart rate monitor
  • Dual-sided Shiamino SPD pedals
  • Giro cycling shoes

I screen cast the classes from my iPhone to an Apple TV which allows me to see cadence and my heart rate on my TV.

If I were buying now, I'd be looking at either the Schwinn IC4 or the Bowflex C6 as they come stock with a lot of things that I ended up adding on (SPD pedals, cadence meter and HRM) as well as things that I don't have but would like to have (weights, resistance displayed, charging port).

It won’t let me attach a photo but this amazon post has a photo https://www.amazon.ca/OT-Beat-Heart-Rate-Wristband/dp/B073YFWH94

Left shoulder? Yeah, get that checked. Soon.

This is the EKG reader I got:

Its $125 pedometer and heart rate monitor isn't it?

Is it the same as?

Why would it be unreasonable to expect a >$100 pedometer and heart meter to actually work?

u/Jlovesolo · 1 pointr/pelotoncycle

It was on sale - I had a price watch alert set for it and it was only the red color that was $29

Check out the placement of the EKG leads. The leads are not only not connected to EKG stickers:

https://www.amazon.com/Red-Dot-Multi-Purpose-Monitoring-Electrode/dp/B07FCRZS25/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1538953787&sr=8-3&keywords=ekg+lead+stickers

they are not stuck to the patient:

https://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/patient-hooked-up-to-ekg-monitor-17098429.jpg

The lead on the left of the patient is not only not attached to a sticker, it is not on the patient; instead, it is simply placed on top of the gown.
