Take advantage of this freedom, because you'll be hitting the ground running from the moment you walk through those law school doors until the moment you take those 1L finals. Things are supposed to get a little easier during 2L year... but I can't really vouch for that since I myself am about to enter my 2L year. Take this time to spend time with non-law school friends and family, because you won't be seeing them for a while. If anyone you know is getting old or sick, take time to be with them now. I knew a LOT of people who had grandparents pass away during their 1L year and they all said the same thing: "I wish I had spent more time with them before I left." Take a vacation, any vacation. Read a book for pleasure -- I'm doing that now and it's been over a year since I last had the opportunity to do so.

As far as preparation goes, the only things that I would suggest would be:

  • Read, or re-read, "To Kill a Mockingbird." It was brought up multiple times during my 1L year and I hadn't read it since high school.

  • Brush up on your grammar. Even if you consider your writing skills to be on point, grammar is another beast entirely. You're going to need it for your legal writing course. There are probably a few apps that can help you with this.

  • Brush up on your general knowledge of U.S. History and U.S. Government & Politics. I did this by watching Crash Course lessons on youtube while running on the treadmill. The videos are relatively short and the host (John Green) is very entertaining: https://www.youtube.com/user/crashcourse/playlists?sort=dd&view=1&shelf_id=0

  • Buy yourself a nice planner and get yourself in the habit of using it everyday. I have been using this specific Moleskine horizontal planner for years and it has never let me down: https://www.amazon.com/Moleskine-Weekly-Horizontal-Diary-Planner/dp/1223132463/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499834846&sr=8-1&keywords=moleskine+horizontal+planner+2017-2018

  • Make sure that you own at least two suits, as well as outfits that would be considered "business casual." Get these items tailored so you look your best. We had to wear suits and walk across the stage for a commencement ceremony on the third day of orientation. There were a handful of students who didn't have the proper attire and they were forced to run out the night before and buy whatever suit they could find.

  • Put together a little "law school emergency kit" for your locker, seeing that you'll basically live there. I can't even tell you how many times I needed the items inside my emergency kit. Countless. I used it at least twice a week. Various items included: chapstick, tweezers, toothbrush/toothpaste, Advil, mini deodorant, A LINT ROLLER, Tide to-go, bandaids, mints, hand lotion, hand sanitizer, a comb, a mini bottle of body spray, an extra phone charger, and a granola bar. I was able to squeeze all of this into a toiletry bag. Here's a nice one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M69R2WA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_zQplzbGBDHBF6. I also hung a small mirror on the inside of the door, as well as some pictures of friends and family.

If it's something like the Thayer's where it is difficult to get the top off, you can also buy empty travel bottles fill them up. I found something very similar to this at the dollar store. There are even little jars for creams and such.

Okay sorry guys that I’m just now getting to this. But it’s by a brand called ‘KOBY’ and it is just such an amazing product. Big beefy zippers and it’s works great for a minimalist DOPP kit or an electronics kit. Plus it’s waterproof.

I've been traveling a lot for both leisure and work lately, so I've been sharing travel routines on Instagram. But my basic philosophy is to focus on decants and deluxe samples, and pack as much stuff that doesn't have to be in a 3-1-1 bag (i.e., sheet masks, etc.). I got these airless pump/spray bottles (pumps for cleanser/cream, sprays for toners) and like them well enough, but one of them has either broke or is incompatible with Liquid Gold's consistency. I got a deluxe sample of Clinique TTDO balm recently and have kept using the jar for my own homemade cleansing balm as I've used up the original sample. And I got a deluxe sample of Drunk Elephant glycolic serum to pack instead of actives (I also use it as a spot treatment). I also have a 0.5-oz. tube of Erborian BB and CC Cremes that I can bring for makeup, but I tend to keep makeup as minimal as possible to allow more room for skin care. I also will forgo non-active serums in favor of hydration, and then use a sheet mask if I want an extra boost. Also, I make sure to bring COSRX Acne patches. And I sprang for a reusable travel bag instead of using a baggie -- at the very least, I don't have to worry about a helpful hotel cleaning staff person throwing it out if I leave it empty on the vanity!

When I did a trans-Atlantic flight to the U.K., I did sheet mask and do a routine on the way there, but I didn't on the way back (mostly because we got stuck in the U.K. due to the British Airways bug and I ran through all my extra stash). When I'm not doing a routine on a flight, I make sure to add extra hydration and seal it in with an occlusive before the flight. I also always travel with a make-up-free face.

My next challenge is going to be going on a trip without my husband, as the last few times we traveled, I relied on him to bring unglamorous things like deodorant, but next time I travel, I have to bring this myself.

As far as sunscreen, I pack face sunscreen and buy sunscreen at my destination. I can easily go through a 4- or 8-oz. body sunscreen in a week, especially if the two of us are spending a lot of time outside. In Scotland, we didn't end up using everything because it rained a lot (i.e., we were inside), but I gave my half-empty bottle to my sister when our paths crossed in Inverness because she complained about getting sunburned.

So yeah, I still have at least two more business trips this summer, plus at least one weekend trip to the in-laws' house. I'm sure I'll post on Instagram for specifics.

I was interested in the same kind of case as you, but didn't find anything as well. I don't know if you found something interesting by now but a toiletry bag is quite a good option to carry just the four controllers in your bag, and you can have the Switch in its case aside.

Here is my toiletry bag holding 4 pro controllers

And here's how it looks all packed up

And if you want to carry the dock with your four controllers, you could also buy something like this and put your dock inside the third pocket.

Here's the link to buy the same bag as mine if you're interested.

Oh we are about to drive 14 hours to see family and pick my sister and niece up, since they’re moving in with us. What am I packing? It could be easier to ask what I’m not packing lol.

But one thing for me is that I have to have all 3 of my at home pillows. I sleep so poorly, anywhere but home means the minimum, so my pillows help me cope.

And I just realized this is more what you meant. I’d love to have these to save room!

Well hello darling!
1: most wanted item because I take little trips for work often and this would be so useful
2: DONE
3: I'm pretty new here so I'm going to pick someone purely from memory who I've noticed to a kind person u/nacho_cheezus
4: If you were stranded on an island with one person (can be famous or not) who would it be and why.
5: you're PRETTY!

I've enjoyed mountain top's hanging toiletry bag: https://www.amazon.com/Mountaintop-Hanging-Toiletry-9-3-Inch-Women-5836/dp/B019Z23NLG Only $11, ~4.6oz

Sea to Summit's Hanging Toiletry Kit looks like a good similar bag too, but $40, 4oz https://www.amazon.com/Sea-Summit-Travelling-Hanging-Toiletry/dp/B00D8TYDC6/

Matador has one that looks well built, that nobody has mentioned yet, but it has no organization :( https://matadorup.com/collections/matador-products/products/flatpak-toiletry-case?variant=18354754191473

You could keep your makeup/toiletries in a travel bag and hang it up in the bathroom while you're getting ready. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019BVLRKU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.MhsDb2GZ1AT5

Also, these are so great for traveling!

I also used to have an above toilet storage unit in my small bathroom and it helped a lot!

I've been using this dopp kit for over a year for many weeklong international trips. It only has one small pocket in addition to the main compartment, so might not be for you if you like lots of pockets. But it weighs just 78g, durable ripstop nylon, compresses down as needed, and fits everything you listed, and then some.

u/pandamerica · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I have this toiletry bag from muji which I've been really liking. I either leave it on the bathroom counter or hang it and don't bother unpacking it. I like that all my bottles (serums, nasal sprays lol, micellar water) stay upright if I have enough in there. I HATE dopp kits where everything rolls around and I have to dig to find anything. I bought it in store and it's WAY expensive on amazon. This looks very similar.

For things that are in big containers/not too runny (moisturizer, curology, aquaphor, tinted moisturizer, eye cream) I put into this stacking pill organizer. Of course you need to tighten to prevent spillage, but it can be overtightened and it's REAL frustrating! I like that it's tall so it fits well in the toiletry bag.

I used to use this flat toiletry bag too. It's great when you want to pack more full size items. Sometimes I can get my toiletries and makeup all in there.

Look up Top Shelf Bar Supply tools on Amazon. Great quality & relatively affordable. Aforementioned Cocktail Kingdom products are also great.

I carry 2x each shakers, spoons, strainers, jiggers & wine keys, a paring knife, bar blade, zester, and muddler in this affordable Dopp bag which I really like. It has pockets for gloves/other things I like to keep on hand and there’s more than enough room for everything I have or might want to add. Used to have a roll but I like the zip bag better, it’s faster for me to setup/breakdown and more compact in tight spaces.

The best part about having your own kit is getting to use the tools you like & are accustomed to no matter what bar you’re working at. Good luck!

Edited to add I love these paring knives. $4-7 each, great for citrus and stay sharp for ages.

I like your magnetic palette. Which size is it?

If you're trying to reduce, here are some ideas. :)

Do you need all those brushes? I'm currently using these Sephora larger set and eye set. I only carry the larger handle since the eye set works with the small end of it. Totals about 60g for 11 brushes. I'm currently carrying the eye brush heads in a small pillbox, but I'm thinking of just putting them in a mini ziplock instead. The big brush heads and handle I just dump them into my makeup bag.

Do you need a full size eyelash curler? I like this one.

Do you need the spare mirror? Your compact seems to already have one.

Do you need a dual sharpener? It makes sense if you carry different size pencils and it can do both. If you only need one size, there are smaller options.

How long are you traveling for? Will you realistically use all the q-tips? I budget about 1.5 - 2 per day.

I find store bought travel size liquids are often still too much product for the duration of the trip. Consider decanting liquids into mini bento sauce bottles 12 ml and 5 ml. You can probably decant your facial spray into a spray bottle like the mini green one you have. I found similar spray bottles at Walgreens and the Container Store.

How many razors do you need? I see a full size disposable and the mini Venus. I carry the mini Venus, but I tossed out the case and keep the blade in the little container refill comes in; I keep it closed with a mini rubber hair band.

Do you need all four alligator clips? Is there a smaller clip you can substitute? Do you need to use a curling iron or hot roller set while traveling? It might make sense for your lifestyle and hair type, but have you considered sleeping in braids to get a similar texture?

Your makeup bag looks bulky to begin with. How heavy is it? I'm currently using an Eagle Creek Specter Toiletry bag. I also like using mini black rubber bands to keep similar items together.

Instead of carrying a full bottle of Neosporin, what about a packet from a first aid kit? I actually put together a really compact first aid kit using little packets of medicine like these.

I don't advocate giving up beauty luxuries while traveling, but there's always a way to optimize your load. :)

I have this great bag meant for travel, but I use it around the house because I've got two puppies that I need to keep an eye on all the time. It's super durable and reasonably priced, seems like it would be easy to clean with a magic eraser or something, and has lots of pockets and spots for brushes. It's awesome!! Has a handle on top, and the large zippered flap on top has a hook built in to hang it if you don't have counter space for it.
