Apparently they also sell adapters on Amazon which also look 3D printed.

Over the years we've ended up with just about every toy train track you can think of so at one point it was just telling everyone to buy whatever because we had a set that went with it.
Someone gave my son two boxes of these and they worked great with all the wooden sets.

I kept waiting for the time when he would outgrow trains and he's almost 10 and it's never happening. The only thing that changed is I used to be able to pick up a new set for under $20 and now I'm lucky if I can get one car for $20.

  1. Before you get started I highly recommend you get a can of Army Painter Wolf Grey spray primer and a bottle of Warpaints Wolf Grey, and use that instead of the GW space wolves grey.

Using the Wolf Grey primer will significantly cut down on the time you spend painting, since you won't have to put down a bunch of basecoat layers over black. It's another $20 you'll have to spend, but with the amount of models you have to paint, it will make a huge difference and you'll be glad you made the investment.

  2. I also second the recommendation to magnetize the Iron Priest so he can be mounted or unmounted. You should also magnetize the Dreadnought so you can use different weapon options.

  3. You don't appear to have bought basing supplies yet. I recommend Gale Force 9's Tundra Basing Kit. You can also pick up some of Woodland Scenics soft snow or the winter effects kit to add some slushy snow or snow banks, even icicles dripping off your dreadnought.

I haven't had that train set since the 80's... so I can't really help.

Can you take a picture of it? Not all plastic track is the same. Some have the connectors on the other side and some don't line up. I bought a bunch of it off of ebay to use for an around the room ceiling layout and found this out first hand. I would just get what you can on ebay and cut and splice if you need to. It's big enough that you can super glue it together to make transition pieces and it won't derail the trains.
Try this -

Or this but I know this will not work without some custom work -

My son just turned 4 and loves his Brio and other wooden train pieces. He got a bunch of tracks and cars for the sets last year, and this year he got a train table with more pieces and has been loving it. Just so you know, there are some great off-brand wooden tracks and trains on Amazon for super cheap that play nicely with Brio, Thomas, etc. They'll basically work with any of the big name wooden tracks. We have some of them and they work well with our Brio sets. Here are some links (not affiliate stuff or anything).

Buy some styrene rod in a diameter that you like, it's commonly available at model train shops. .030" is decent for 28mm figures. Use a sharp hobby knife to cut many appropriately sized discs. Don't worry about them being uniformly thick. Then use two-part epoxy putty, greenstuff, Milliput, or any cheap kind you can find at your local DIY store, to build up a mound large enough to mount the dragon on. Coat it with super glue and sprinkle your discs over the mound. You can either put on a couple layers of discs or just heap them up in specific spots, after that to create the illusion that the whole mound is made of coins. If you really want to make it look like a horde though, get a pack of weapons and a pack of other items to add to the hill before your discs. That will make them look half-buried and the whole scene more convincing.

After that, spray the pile silver and give it a couple coats of black wash to add depth. Then use inks or washes to tint some of it yellow so it looks like gold. Obviously, paint anything that needs to be painted appropriately; like chests or scrolls.

I understand it's for his birthday, and you would prefer to give something new, rather than used. And I agree... for a first "set" starting out, buy it new. It's not cheap, but OK. When I look for BRIO in Europe, I try to stay, if possible, under EUR 1/piece. So a set with 50 BRIO pieces for €50 or less would be "OK". Because BRIO is BRIO, buying used is safe, the toys pretty much just don't break.

Then! as u/Woodenwordsmith says... you need track to make any decent layout. And one of the best starting packs, albeit super boring... is the 33772 50 Piece Track Pack. It's a bit boring maybe because it does not contain trains, or cars or a building... but fact is, you need track :) The price on amazon.ca is not even that bad.

The problem with sets is that they'll mostly be curves. At least 8 in every set because 8 curves make a circle... and the sets are always closed tracks. They'll come with maybe 2, or 3 at most, straight pieces. You'll be swimming in curves. The 50 Piece Track Pack Comes with 12 longer straights and 8 very welcome Mini Straights to make tracks "fit".

I don't know how much you want to spend of course but the 50 Piece Track Pack on amazon there is way way better value than CAD $30 for 13 pieces of track in 33394 Starter Track Pack.

Oooh, let's see. maybe this play set, or honestly even this guy he always laughs when he's in an episode.

As for me and my husband, we don't need anything, just for our son to have a great holiday, that's enough of a gift to us. But that's a sweet question <3

For train

Not sure how much track you'd need to register as walking around, but that should be a good amount.

What do I need to get started on Panel wash? I can't find Tamiya brands here in the states. I found these https://www.amazon.com/Testors-Gloss-Black-Enamel-Paint/dp/B003CNM2VW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498803242&sr=8-1&keywords=black+enamel+paint

Would these be fine? Do I mix with lighter fluid or Paint thinner?

u/Woodenswordsmith · 1 pointr/BRIO

Cool layout! But including Thomas parts in the Brio subreddit? How dare you.

We really like that Brio 33280 Freight Goods Station in our house.

It depends on what you're looking for.

If you want it as-is, like a spooky swamp tree then I'd paint a dilute Mod Podge onto some of the base and less of the top branches, rubbing in some Fine Turf (this stuff is worth the money) wherever you want there to be moss.

For the base, go outside and find some dead leaves and toss em in a blender (or a shot glass with a pair of scissors) and glue the dead tiny leaves to the base. Here's an example of one I did

Finally, you might want some vines made from poly fiber. Just pull some off, work in some of that dilute mod podge, twist it here and there into individual vines and wrap around the tree or dangle where you'd like. You can finish the vines with some more of the turf, too

Just replace the wheelsets instead of the whole truck?

From the look of things, they should be a fairly typical 33" wheelset with needlepoint axles (I say should, as I don't have any HO scale Bachmann 0-6-0 tenders to check). Various companies sell metal replacements: Kadee, Tangent, Walthers, Intermountain, and even Bachmann themselves.

If you really want to replace the trucks, Bachmann sells these in their parts store. That said, there is no guarantee that the ride height will be the same, and you'll have to figure out how to deal with the different screws.

Hope this helps.

I'm assuming this is an HO scale Bachman 0-6-0 with Vanderbilt tender based on the grey tank shape visible beneath (above?) the frame, and HO scale from the sizing of the coupler and wheels.

Just a little heads up for if there is a next time. They make clips that will join the track together a little more snugly. https://www.amazon.com/Dazy-Inc-Suretrack-Clips-Count/dp/B000AQT8R0

u/iron_____dan · 1 pointr/deathwatch40k

I made them by ordering bolter scope bits on eBay and cutting these to my desired length. Evergreen Scale Models Round Tubing 1/8" (5) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006O5FEG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_If3XBb3GATBGR

Another question. Will these two pieces of track not match up? They seem to be different colors.
