I have the HF dust collector mounted directly to a custom lid for a wheeled 32 gallon garbage can. The lid is essentially a diy version of this. It works okay. Long time between emptying, which is nice for the planer. Bad separation, which is bad for saws and sanders (all the fine stuff pretty much goes straight to the filter bag, which then goes pretty much straight into the air). I spend more time than I would like wearing a respirator while my DC is going. I need to make the lid a more complete Thien baffle and upgrade the bag.

I understand. The design in this picture is quite different though. See the filter at the top? This is a modified shop vac. That is the shop vac filter that is hanging off of the motor. There is already one baffle directly below the filter. And then the second one down below.

This type of lid has no thien type baffle at all.

There are so many ways to do this stuff which is pretty cool.

I have mine loosely setup with a "diy" 2 stage dust collector. It actually does a pretty good job with minimal footprint. It's just a cheap harbor freight single stage collector attached to this on a metal trash can.

We have the low ceilings around 6'8", 7.5' would be almost workable. I routinely move 8'+ pieces for milling and it's a huge pain in the butt getting them through without tapping bulbs and ballasts.
