Looks like this
I don't know your budget, but i here you go.
If you want to get something cheaper i would advise you to diy one with some steel pipe and wood boards from your local hardware store and some handy work :)
Just ordered this one, it's $225. I wanted the mid century modern look, low and sleek.
Modway EEI-3304-WAL-WHI Envision 70" Media Console Wood TV Stand, Walnut White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MTNHTF8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.sYpDbHDPNE2C
This one is similar but only $193

An equipment rack would take up less space than your current wood cabinet. It won't look as pretty though, and you'll have to figure out where to put the wood cabinet.
Here are some examples of equipment racks:
https://www.amazon.com/Sanus-Systems-AFA-Accurate-Furniture/dp/B00004U8A0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468352876&sr=8-1&keywords=sanus+afa

Turntable goes on the top, rest of components on the lower racks.
Great job so far! I would try to create a more open feel to the room, it looks a little too crowded for me. Axing the TV stand altogether or replacing it with a floating one would really help. Floating stands really give the illusion of more space. Something like:
https://www.amazon.com/Black-Altus-Plus-Floating-Stand/dp/B00CM5Y44E
Also think about replacing your coffee table. Seems oversized for the space. I don't know the exact dimensions of your space, but I would opt for something more, for lack of a better word, rectangular. Something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Modern-Large-Rectangular-Coffee-Table/dp/B01NCL1V4O/ref=sr_1_9?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1498701225&sr=1-9&keywords=coffee+table
FYI I'm not recommending either of these exact products, just the general styling of them
Gotta admit, I bought one of these things. I have this entertainment center: http://amzn.com/B002RRF9IM
My TV and soundbar take up the entire top surface, so the Xbox is in one of those center cubby areas. There are maybe three inches clearance on the left and right and 5 inches clearance on the top.
The Xbox gets noticeably hotter than it did when it used to be on my desk and the fan is louder under stress. My hope is that the Antec thing will redirect the exhaust out of the back of the entertainment center. As it is now, the hot air is vented straight up and console is just recycling its own exhaust.
9.5-10" tall shelves:

You're lucky, I can't find anything for my center.
Stock comes and goes, but this may be worth waiting for or finding elsewhere.
sonax
>I know the player shouldn't be on top of my receiver, endtable is just slightly too short to put side by side, so living with it for now.
Pangea Audio Vulcan X Add-On Component Shelf (Black) might work.
Or build a single shelf DIY flex racks:
Or a turntable stand:
Aw mr zip is so freakin cute! :)
And dang now that I looked closely the living room looks tiny. I think a good entertainment stand would be some like this , you could mount it or put it on the stand but ideally I think the tv should be at eye level so you don’t strain your neck.
And as for rugs I would recommend a dark color. I would get a solid color personally but I understand that’s boring for others but something like this.
I think these shelves would help you out a lot.
And I honestly don’t know where I would put mr zip. Cause in the pics i can’t tell if you would have enough room there for him and the couch. Do you have a pic of the couch under the stairs? Like if you were to stand in front of it?
I got this: WE Furniture AZ70NORSG TV Stand, 70", Slate Grey https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N25346X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_QZPR7XRMW64Pj
If you only put one thing in the center and don’t put that glass shelf you’ll have plenty of room.
I got AC Infinity Cabinet vents for the closed portions to vent hot air out.

I also have a long narrow bedroom (sort of similar), so I mounted my tv and also turned my entertainment center into a floater. Im gonna link you to the tv stand I have so you can check it out but with the colors I think I see, sorry its hard to tell, it looks like it would also go well in your living space

It's very sleek and hardly in the way taking up minimal space, then I also bought 2 16" heavy duty L brackets to mount it to my wall, and it looks awfully good with a mounted tv above. There's also a white version of it
I had a similar problem and ended up with a black metal TV stand, using glass shelves. The TV mounts to the stand, rather than sitting on it.

It’s for this purpose: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KLKJQV7
This sucker can hold up over 100 pounds total and 40 pounds are only hanging by these things.
http://www.amazon.com/Sanus-Classics-EFA31-B1-Foundations-Audio/dp/B00E8JLS4G/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1453662002&sr=8-5&keywords=sanus+component+rack
That one is supposed to support 400lbs of audio equipment.
amazon - floating tv stand https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CM5Y44E/ref=psdc_14109851_t4_B075MWQRBG?th=1
I was thinking about the M.2 drive because it would reduce the boot up time. I've never used M.2 so I'm not sure how much it would help with bootup, but I wanted to give it a try.
As for the case, I thought it would work best in the space I'm using this entertainment center and I wanted a good fit in the cubby on the right hand side, while preventing any ventelation issues.
How would a SATA vs M.2 boot up times contrast? That's a cut I'd be willing to make, even though I think it would be cool to have.
Through the wall. Then use a floating entertainment center. I have two of these, one in my bedroom and one in the living room. They are reasonably priced and are the cleanest in my opinion.
Black 58" Wide Wall Mounted AV Console - Series 9 Designer Collection https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008OS1WGQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_uJEkzbBD9VHN9
I agree it's not on topic with the switch, but to simply answer OP's question since I feel like hijacking the top comment, just get whatever fits your needs. I do suggest bumping up your budget though. If you can afford a Switch, you can afford to deal with what you have now until you can get a decent entertainment center.
Save up and get this. It'll hold your Switch, and everything else you need. It fits my 55" TV and my subwoofer. Dock sits on top of sub.

It’s a [Sonax FB-2607] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004IDS6II/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ajrvCbSDSZB2J), from Amazon. I’ve had it for 6 years now, it’s held up pretty well across 3 moves and 2 states.
Hmm, maybe
Ideally I want something like this: https://www.amazon.com/TransDeco-Universal-Mounting-System-65-Inch/dp/B002N6TYT2
Best of both worlds, get the centre up higher and keep the TV closer
But they're impossible to find in the UK...
-you could use this for dvd storage or for books, pictures, or anything else.
-entertainment system/dvd storage
-another entertainment system and storage
-hamper
