Yeah, my family got one of these for my dad at some point in the late 90s, from some "museum gift store" type place in the mall; I imagine OP's is older, but /u/XXyo80XX def. has a pretty common one. It is also super cool and I ended up playing around with it more than my dad ever did.

e: in fact, you can buy one on Amazon right now for $70.

I got a great one off amazon that folds up small and is sparkly and purple (by God I’m going to have an awesome one if I have to use one). It wasn’t expensive and I keep it my backpack or car for when I dislocate or am just having a bad pain day and need the support. It’s also adjustable height which I love since I’m tall. MS-er here. This one is pretty great. I’ve used it for 6 months with no issues. Travels well, and fits into a purse! Vive Folding Cane - $16

My grandparents had this cane chair 40 years ago.

I have this one. It's foldable so it fits in my bag when I don't use it, and I actually like that it has a fun print - makes it feel a bit more like it was made for a young person (even though I also see plenty of old ladies with flowered canes). If it's a bit too flashy or expensive for you, I'm sure you can find something similar.

If you don't need it to be compact, you could also look into using a single elbow crutch, since people tend to associate those more with injury/disability rather than old age.

I just gave one like this to a friend of mine, and he loves it. We got a ton of use out of it, and also having pots it was great for those sudden heart rate spikes where you need to sit down voluntarily before your body takes itself out (both of us have pots, eds, and more but his condition is more severe). There are a ton on Amazon, and some drug stores even have ones similar

- kinesio tape

-biofreeze balm

- my NOVA brand cane. They come in a ton of fun colors. I have the proud peacock one, but there are many styles to choose from. My favorite cane. https://smile.amazon.com/NOVA-Designer-Offset-Handle-Flowers/dp/B00SWX4BHU/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1537596395&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=nova%2Bcane&th=1

I am a big believer in having equipment that is cute or cool or pretty looking so it matches your personality and you enjoy using it.

- Crazy Compression makes compression socks in fun prints. Also, they are the most comfortable compression socks I own.

- a memory foam mattress topper for my bed makes it at least a little more comfortable to sleep, though I still have a lot of trouble finding a way to sleep that doesn't hurt.

- a kitty litter scoop with an extendable handle so I can scoop the litter box without having to crouch! Total game changer.

- one of those grabber tools so I can pick up things like laundry without bending. should have bought one ages ago. It is making it a lot easier to pick up my room.

This is the perfect peripheral for this game! Even has Vive written!

I feel you. When I realized the cane was long-term, not temporary, I had a brief meltdown. But then I went from the ugly brass hospital cane to a cane in a color I loved. I realized I needed to own it.

A friend then gave me the Hurrycane as a gift, and that was even better! It folds up, which is super convenient, it (mostly) stands up on its own, and it comes in different colors. Also, the bottom is a bit more stable than the traditional cane.

It also comes with options like LED lights and memory foam handles, but I haven’t tried those.

I am 35 and used a cane from 30. Can I recommend getting a cane with a swan neck (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Drive-DeVilbiss-Healthcare-Folding-Walking/dp/B009DZP89Q/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1543599739&sr=8-1&keywords=swan+neck+cane) these make it easier on your hands so when you use it you don't get hand cramp (I have 2 blue ones). You can search for "switch sticks" to get some jazzy looking ones but the handles are not as nice.

Anything that helps you feel better is worth getting. Do not worry about the judgmental people. When you don't need the stick you can tell everyone you are having a good day today.

Thanks for doing this, you are an amazing person. I have a great fun fact about glacier national park in Montana that almost no one is aware of...it has a rain forest! I saw it when I was in HS and my biology teacher took us on a trip. The rain forest was in a deep valley between two mountains. The mountains trapped humid warm air in the valley and allowed the ferns, orchids and cedar trees to grow. There isn't much information about it on the web, but this is what I could find:

I really need a walking cane. This one is on sale for $10.99 with free shipping: https://www.amazon.com/Ez2care-Classic-Handle-Strap-Black/dp/B009OEAYL8/ If that is too much then maybe some earbuds as my last pair of headphones stopped working: https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-RP-HJE120-PPK-In-Ear-Headphone-Black/dp/B003EM2WAW/

I need help selecting an outfit for my grandmothers wake.

My grandmother just died about a month ago and since she was cremated it allowed us to have her memorial at the end of June. At this memorial is going to be family I haven't seen in quite some time. I would like to look nice.

I was thinking of buying a sports coat but I've never worn one and I'm not sure how to wear one or what type of shirts/pants to wear them with.

I'm balding and I like to wear my grey tweed newsboy type cap. Also I broke my leg and have started using a cane this one to be exact.

I also have a medium long beard.

I'm also not sure what color or type of material to buy in a sports coat. I was thinking grey to match my cap with the suede elbows or is that too cliche?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I am so sorry that you are struggling! I do too, very often, and it sucks!

The item that I need the most is this cane for me to keep my balance while walking...my current one is falling apart. If that is not considered self care, then I'd love this eyeshadow palette, please. The cane is on my default list and the palette is on my Beauty and Nail Stuffs list.

Thank you for the contest! 💖💖

I have a SABI cane. It's from a little startup out in California, but I'm not sure if they're still around? Regardless, they're still available for sale on Amazon and other sites http://www.amazon.com/Classic-Ergonomic-Walking-Specialized-Pinot/dp/B00GJR33SY

It's a bit more pricey than some on fashionable canes and other sites, but they're much less "old-lady-ish". My canes (I have a red and black) are over a year old and still gorgeous - the wood looks better as it ages.

Plus it's strong as fuck. I broke a cheaper cane from fashionable canes one day at work. That sucked like hell.

  1. When you drink wine you must do it like a sir and every good sir needs a cane

  2. I have a broom but could use the cleaning tool chest to keep things clean so mom doesn't try and ground me.

  3. No need for a hat but i'm often told i need a helmet

  4. Plenty of books to whisk me away in this house but never enough light to read by, but I have wished for a book light.

  5. Unfortunately my bike didn't come equipped with a trunk but a bike bag would serve well.

Bonus: Haven't you heard about how dangerous capes are? Do you want me to get sucked into a jet engine? I prefer to show my super hero side as glow in the dark man (keep that quiet ok, its a secret) with some of the electric neon wire.

It has a small 3 prong foot, nowhere near the size the 4 prong ones are. Here's a link...

Here’s are a couple suggestions:

https://www.fashionablecanes.com/
Crazy selection, (So. Many. Canes) many different options (length, grips, collapsible, etc.) Got a ‘Dr, House’ cane from here (the one with the flames on the bottom) and it was great and held up really really well!

Amazon!
There’s actually a great selection on Amazon at VERY reasonable prices. My colorful polka dot collapsible cane is from here (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QX459S0/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_416OBbSY6NY97) and was under $25. Its held up fairly well, but not perfectly. My thought is that for $20-25 I can changes them out each year and be fine with it.

I know there are many other options, but these are the two I’ve actually ordered from. Didn’t want to recommend something I haven’t liked because a crappy cane can really ruin things!

Edit: Fixed Amazon link.

You might be able to get one on Amazon, otherwise if you have a CVS nearby they have them! My CVS has cool designs on theirs but they aren't as sturdy.

This is the one I have. The four pronged base is what's gonna give you a lot of stability, especially in a crowd.
