> With no effort, lemons were completely squeezed of all their juice. As you pressed gently, the reamer rotated in both directions to clean out the fruit half, and an adjustable pulp screen kept out seeds and let you adjust the pulp level of the juice with a simple switch. Great for bigger jobs when you want a lot of juice, but easy enough to use for just one lemon. Simple to assemble and clean.

AMCO Houseworks Enameled Lemon Squeezer, model 06-0354 - $11.95

> Surprisingly easy to use—juice gushes out. Of the squeeze-style juice presses we tested, this was the most comfortable and effective, with curved handles and a well-shaped plunger. Squeezing the rounded handles didn’t hurt our hands like others of this style, and seeds were contained. It was also attractive, sporting a bright yellow finish, but hand-washing is best if you want to keep the paint from chipping. (We tested the paint and found it lead-free.)

  > By far the largest press, this wooden behemoth caught the eye of every cook in the kitchen. Lovely appearance aside, this machine was easy to work, though its heavy plates can be a bit intimidating at first. A wooden sliver on the top plate keeps tortillas from getting too thin and also keeps thickness consistent. The 14-inch arm on this press gives great leverage, but it arrives detached and requires some assembly.

  > This product is lighter and more compact than our winner but still has sufficient heft to make pressing easy. At first, the handle was a bit stiff, but it loosened with use, and the ample surface area kept dough from squeezing out the sides.

If you are willing to put up with a bit of a learning curve, this model is a fine choice. It comes preassembled and is easy to store.

While this product was easy to use and came preassembled, the poor quality of the tortillas canceled out any redeeming qualities.
