it definitely behaves like its capacitive.

I don't know of any specific places for 4100 screen experience. I suggest you search Amazon's reviews (4.3/5 stars) on resistive:

  • Don't let the resistive touch screen fool you. It's very responsive considering it's not capacitive. Sure, you can tell a difference but it's not so bad that you'll want to shoot yourself. For instance, scrolling requires a minimal amount of pressure. And on the plus side, you can wear gloves and still operate this unit if you're in cold climate.
  • Screen is very responsive for a resistive unit.
  • The resistive touch-screen works great. I like the pinch-n-zoom functionality in the Maps screen of Android Auto.

    Also this reddit review:

The removable screen is awesome, worth getting the cheaper 4100 for it instead of the capacitive non-removable screen on the 8100.

This might be an elaborate way of answering your first question, but mostly I wanted to write out my experience of doing this exact thing. Also apparently I need to split this up into 2 replies.

I have an AVH-W4400NEX and a 2012 Prius Plug-In. After buying all the stuff I needed...

Pretty much any of the android set top boxes will do screen mirroring with something like miracast, and you can add gps to any of them with a receiver like: https://www.amazon.com/GlobalSat-BU-353-S4-USB-Receiver-Black/dp/B008200LHW

You just plug it into USB, and run something like the GPS Status to initiate it.

XTRONS Security Face Panel for Double Din Car DVD Player https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JRUIMHM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_lcaMBb6JNGK6P

Haven't tried it but looks like it would 😁

This is what car installers use to hook up steering wheel controls to the head units.

The kit appears to be universal... so if you don't have steering wheel controls built in... with this you should be able to wire switches/knobs in and program them pretty easily.

I have a JVC 830BT in now, I assume everything is the same (even the datalink settings, I bet). [It's a pretty simple plastic surround for a Rav4.] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FJC0FMW/)

I have the Pixel XL v1 also on Android 10 and we just got the 2020 Subaru Outback. I plug my Pixel into the USB port and the AA button lights up (it actually replaces the MySubaru button). Have you tried to clear cache / storage on the AA app on your phone. The AA app should start as soon as AA starts on your Outback. I'm using these cables.

Here's $95: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00I9ASGOK/

Like I said in my post, AA should reduce cost as it (in its purist form) requires less resources.

Looked for the Monoprice and couldn't find any that would be delivered by the time I needed it (waited until the last minute to start looking, of course). Ended up getting this one and (knock wood) have not had any issues since. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009X8EDEE/

Yeah... I just tried it and I didn't see it. I have a Parking Brake Override Bypass installed so maybe that is why.

u/Wizkid37 · 1 pointr/AndroidAuto

I have used this and this. It does the job. The down side is it takes a little bit to get it paired up every time and then it displays in SD. You won't need a chrome cast, it has it built in.

Thank you about that note regarding the high output charging. it explains why I had problems connecting my AX100 to a Pixel XL.

For anyone looking to install the AX100 and use the space where their 12v outlet is for the USB out, do not buy the PAC USB cable, which will have this blackout/charging issue. (I went through two of them, thinking at first I may have received a defective cable) The similar Rerii USB cable has worked without problems and is priced equivalently, albeit shorter.

Cable Matters 2-Pack, Right Angle... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J4NLOOU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I have a Kia Sportage, but most Kia have the same hole so I send the cable to the right and it keeps my cubby area clean.
