I personally feel it is the perfect bag for travel, work, and school.
I have this one that I used when I was dragging around my organic textbook PLUS the answer key PLUS my surface pro PLUS a binder full of notes. Rolling backpacks are simply the best for anything that's this heavy and this bulky. For stairs, you can pick it up by the very sturdy handle there at the top but I'll admit for two or three stairs I just let that shit roll up or down. It can take a beating.
In the future though, try and figure out if you REALLY need all these things with you every day.
