I would go for the Catan scenarios. We have had a ton of fun with the Oil Springs scenario. They are really cheap too. They can be hard to find because they are really small, but at your local game store look for a package that looks like a piece of cardboard wrapped in plastic. I think it was something like $5-$10, so probably the best expansion for your money. For Oil Springs they only charge enough to cover production costs and any extra profit goes towards Worldwatch's Transforming Cultures Project.

Oil Springs introduces a new resource (oil) and new settlement level (metropolis, 3 of everything), and a whole new game mechanic. As you use oil global warming occurs and you can lose tiles and coastal settlements and downgrade cities. Playing with my friend once he had three cities around an 8. Then I used oil and triggered a global warming event that took the 8 off the board. Then on my next turn I caused sea level rise and two of his cities were destroyed. If you upgrade your cities to metropolis they are immune to sea level rise. If enough global warming events happen the game is over and the player which sequestered the most oil wins the game.

Here are the rules for the Oil Springs scenario if you are interested: http://www.catan.com/en/download/?Catan-OilSprings-Scenario.pdf

And the link to the game on amazon, it even has prime: https://www.amazon.com/Mayfair-Games-Catan-Scenarios-Springs/dp/B006GHRSLK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1502733630&sr=8-1&keywords=catan+scenarios

Edit: you can also download it for free

Edit2: Video review of the Oil Springs. I watched a few reviews to find the best one, this one has a couple slip ups, but overall its the best.

A large tackle box works very well, along with baggies for the different pieces/markers of course. I don't remember what model, but this looks right: http://www.amazon.com/Plano-758-005-4-Drawer-Tackle-Box/dp/B000E39T28

Tiles go in the top right, borders (we also have long plastic borders) go in the flat space on top. Cards (separated into appropriate categories) go in the top drawer, pieces in the next two.

If you want to be sure, find your nearest outdoor store (we went to bass pro shops), take all your catan boxes in and sit on the floor putting stuff into different tackle boxes until you find the solution that fits you best.

While the really useful boxes are nice (since someone else mentioned them), I wouldn't recommend them for catan. I do use them for Mage Knight though, but that's a very different set of pieces.

I've gotta say that my fiance' and I recently got The Rivals For Catan, the two player card game built around Catan and we are having a lot of fun with it. It took two playthroughs to get the rules, but now we are expanding to the more advanced parts of the deck and really enjoying it. We were actually able to get a used copy on Amazon for like fifteen bucks so it's not too bad at all. Here's a link to the game on Amazon:

I think this is the storage box I got a while ago. It fits everything from all expansions (except manuals, but I have those on pdfs on my phone anyway). You just need to remove a few of the bins so the frame pieces fit inside as well.

I use this for Catan and a few other games. I just wish the base were a little bigger so I could fit some game boards inside as well. (I have Agricola, Power Grid and all of Catan except Explorers and Pirates in here (with 5-6 player expansion.)

It's rebranded by Husky and sold at Home Depot.

Yeah, I don't see them in stores. You'll probably have to go online, maybe something like this:

Although I covet the various plastic and wood Catan boards, I use $6 blue drawer liner which I lay underneath my Catan tiles. It holds the tiles in place, looks ocean-like, and is easy to fold/store.

Catanimaniacs!

Mille borne is a nostalgia favorite. More of a card game, but count it.

u/Jimothy_Riggins · 1 pointr/Catan

It's a brand that sells journals and leather notebooks. Here is an amazon link.

Where on Earth did you manage to get Fishermen on Catan from? Its now out of print. All I see is it is impossible to buy except at exorbitant prices on Amazon.

u/xSGAx · 3 pointsr/Catan

eh, they make actual, magic-style card sleeves for Catan cards here

> Moleskin

Moleskines are a small leather bound notebook many people carry with them. Here is one example.

Get one, they're cheap and tick loudly and end with a loud bell. Set a time limit for all turns.

The Frenemies mini-expansion is cheap at $7 and changes the robber mechanic. Instead of moving the robber onto your hexes, they'll be moving it harmlessly to earn tokens.
