Like others said, you're going to need square 1 algorithms, and 2x2 algorithms. The links I just supplied you with are considered the best of their type (best square-1, best 2x2) and I recommend both of them.

Also, you're probably going to look in to getting some lube. There's heaps of info on lube everywhere, and it's all pretty good. Check out Traxxas differential oil, and Lubix.

Some puzzles you may consider getting, too:

-Moyu Aosu 4x4

-SS 5x5

-SS Pyraminx

-Dayan Megaminx

-Rubik's Magic (no longer a WCA event, because it's the same sequence of moves. Still pretty fun to mess around with, and make shapes out of)

-If you're looking for something really different, check out some cubiods like this. Ignore the bad review, it's great. Also really good to get someone into shapeshifting cuboids.

Ok. So you'd probably want to buy a new and better 3x3. I highly recommend this cube called the [YueXiao] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01DJBK5JM/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1491741833&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=yuexiao&dpPl=1&dpID=51m%2BphgBjkL&ref=plSrch) (that is the stickerless version and this is the stickerless version. The only difference between them is if you like the stickered version better. It's a really good cube, and it I ordered it on amazon when I was getting into speed cubing and it brought my times down a lot.

The thunderclap mini is very good. Stickerless and black. If you're OK with not amazon, you can get it here in the US for decent fast shipping and a dollar less, or at CubeZZ (black, stickerless) for the cheapness and free, long shipping. Alternatively, Zcube is always great for the absolute cheapest prices, not including shipping.

Or if that's too much there's the Guansu, definitely not as good as the Thunderclap though.

It depends on your budget but I would suggest getting a 2x2-5x5 bundle. I buy my cubes off amazon so I can't speak for other stores but you can get a reasonably high quality one for fairly cheap.

If you're in the US, I'd recommend something like this: https://www.amazon.com/CuberSpeed-Speedcubing-JiaoShi-Stickerless-Classroom/dp/B06VWRC6BV/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1492687899&sr=8-2&keywords=2x2-5x5+bundle

If you're in the UK I'd recommend something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vdealen-Bundle-Stickerless-Smooth-Puzzles/dp/B01HI9HN14/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1492688100&sr=8-7&keywords=6x6+stickerless

> QiYi Warrior W

I just got a stickerless one for $8 and I really really like it. The corner cutting is amazing and compared to my shitty first cube it turns loosely enough for me to do turns with fingers other than right index and right thumb.

---

For that 4x4 parity I use the alg from Chris' 4x4 Reduction Method on speedcubing.com. It's probably not the best one time-wise, but I found it easy to remember for something so long so I stuck with it.

I remember it like this -

  • r2 B2 - Setup
  • U2 l U2 r' - Move inner slices down
  • U2 r U2 F2 r F2 l' - Move inner slices back up
  • B2 r2 - Restore

It was This one, and it wasn't too bad. I was pretty confused at first, but it didn't take too long to figure it out. Realizing I could use center rotation algs to fix my edges was pretty helpful.

Ok so tiles , something like this: [1]. I would want something like a 3x3x3x3 cube or one of those combined cubes [2].

u/greg_barton · 3 pointsr/Cubers

Hasn't broken on me yet. :) I've only done ten solves or so, though. Seems similar in quality to these.

A lot of people like the Gan cubes, but there are also many who prefer the Valk or the GTS2. I personally use a stickerless GTS2, which I am planning on adding magnets to. One nice thing about the GTS2M is that it is less than $25 from Amazon.

I believe that both Amazon.com and speedcubeshop have the Valk M for a relatively low price.

EDIT: Speedcubeshop has the Valk M for $34.99, so still relatively pricy.

Will they fit a cube like this

u/Cubing_cuber · 1 pointr/Cubers

Yeah, they have knockoff cubes, like this one, which is horrible but looks nice

u/frisbii · 3 pointsr/Cubers

Can I use this cable adapter and this usb splitter? I'm planning to get a speedstacks timer and I want to connect it to my laptop (only unified audio jack)

u/shelchang · 2 pointsr/Cubers

Look for 100% silicone based spray, it should be fine.

Alternatively, hobby stores carry silicone shock oil for RC cars or airsoft guns in various weights. Something between 20-30wt works great on cubes; this is the kind I have.

u/rusty_t · 1 pointr/Cubers

Something like this Food-Safe Silicone Spray from CRC might work. It says plastic-safe so at least it won't destroy your cube.

Hi guys, just ordered my first 2x2, i'm no professional here and all of u guys seem to know what ur doing but i feel the Fangshi wasnt the wisest choice? Anyway u guys enjoy being pros

u/micstar81 · 1 pointr/Cubers

Bottom middle is a 4 color cube. I modeled it after the mastermorphix. I really like how that one turned out.

u/Metaknight203405 · 1 pointr/Cubers

Hi! Im on a quest for a black/stickerless old plastic dayan 2x2. I've been looking for a while now, and I could only find the white one. The only other thing i could find is this but one person says it is original plastic and the other says it isn't. Are there any other places I could get one? (I do not like white puzzles and I have a $25 budget)

u/infernon_ · 2 pointsr/Cubers

Get a cable like this and connect it to the microphone jack.

u/HipHop_4_Life · 2 pointsr/Cubers

Thanks for that advice. I already ordered this which should be the same as this .

In the amazon description, the one I ordered, it says it's the mf3s not the mf3rs. However on the other description it says it is the mf3rs. I'm excepting it to be mf3rs because in this video it shows that the mf3rs is the one with the logo just like the packaging shows.

Only thing I'm confused about is the difference between the two. I know the mf3rs is better but why/how? What does the r and s stand for?

I'm looking for my "first" 3x3. I bought a Yuxin Little magic but it was extremely loose ootb, so I tried adjusting the tension and one of the sticky thingies that holds the corner piece broke off.

Right now I'm trying to decide between the Yuxin Hunaglong 3x3 and the QiYi Warrior W 3x3. Right now I'm leaning towards the Warrior because it's cheaper and amazon prime. Would buying the Yuxin Hunaglong all me to be "future proof", if I start to take speed cubing more seriously? Right now I haven't even memorized the algorithms for the beginner method yet.

Or recommend a better cube if you think it'd be better. I just read through the FAQ to find those.

You can get a ShengShou 10x10 on Amazon for $88. Link.

Probably the [Puzzle Master USES3 Quadruple 2x2 Cube](
https://www.amazon.com/Puzzle-Master-USES3-Quadruple-Cube/dp/B002TA5NQU).
Check the size. I have the EastSheen, and it's a bit smaller (under an inch vs 1.5 inches).

u/Penguin236 · 1 pointr/Cubers

It's this one. I didn't know about the Cubicle at the time so I bought this.

You can turn the corners, and you can also turn the entire tetrahedron inside out so that the triangles become corners and vice-versa. I think it's isomorphic to a Dino Cube.

I own this GTS 2M and one magnet in an edge piece came loose. However, this piece doesn't seem to be openable, as opposed to the stickerless version.

How can I open this edge piece so I can glue the magnet back in place?
