I've never tried solar string lights, but I bought these battery powered ones last year:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006IB94BG

They were $16 when I bought them, Amazon prices change a lot so I'm sure they'll go down again at some point. Anyway, they work great: has a hook to hang the battery pack (uses 4 AA batteries), nice and bright, water resistant.

One of the best features imo is that they'll automatically shut off after 6hrs. Next day they'll turn on again at the same time for 6hrs again (unless you turn them on earlier, or turn them off yourself).

I took them into the festival with me to wrap around myself (so my group members could see me and we could stay together), and to illuminate around our blanket whenever we parked in the forest or at a stage. I need to get a couple more sets exclusively for our campsite

For campsite music I can't recommend this thing enough. The most powerful portable speaker I could find and runs on 8-D batteries. Was $350 last year, down to $230 now:

Coleman EZ-UP, I realize this one's is on the more expensive side but in my experience Coleman products are really great at being truly waterproof, no need for extra tarps and this one has LED lighting built in so no need for lanterns, etc:

Sanuk shoes with yoga mat lining. Especially crucial on days 3 and 4:

Portable Battery for cell phone charging with tons of juice for several phone fill ups:

Hangover assist/vitamins/electrolytes/hydration:

That's all I can think of for now, it really is great being fully prepared for this event :)

KindCreations has already mentioned most of the important ones to take before/during, altough I would not take 5-HTP before rolling (too much may increase chances of serotonin syndrome - but this depends on the individual) but rather, save it for the day after to help boost serotonin production. I would recommend this compound the day after.

can't endorse the downbeats enough, made being up front for glitch mob, cheese, tribe, umph super comfortable.

and I've definitely had some problems with hearing damage in the past. did lights all night vip in 2012 and was up front for ghostland, nero, and nectar. ghostland observatory was and still is the loudest show I've ever seen.

the best part about those high fidelity ear plugs is that when you're up front you can talk to other people wearing them with a normal speaking voice and understand each other really well.

u/ASOT550 · 2 pointsr/ElectricForest

So as someone who has never owned a hammock, and isn't really sure if he needs one, should I get this? Seems like a good deal, and with these straps it only comes out to like $50. Should I make the impulse buy? I'm also going to a few other camping festivals, (Counterpoint and Tomorrowland, possibly Tomorrowworld) does it make the festival experience much better?

So I will start with the list of things I already have saved from surfing this sub

EarPlugs:
http://www.amazon.com/Etymotic-Research-ETY-Plugs-Protection-Earplugs/dp/B0044DEESS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1418951680&sr=8-2&keywords=etymotic&pebp=1418951683220

These are great to put over your tent to keep the light and heat out in the morning so you dont wake up in a sauna at 7am

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GCRWCG?ref_=sr_1_1&qid=1420214365&sr=8-1&keywords=space%20blanket&pldnSite=1

And finally, I will never attend another festival again without this stuff, it is a foaming body wash that does not require water. We use it at my work all the time for bed baths and whatnot, so I thought I would try it for a festival and it works quite well. It doesnt get you as clean as a normal shower but this and baby wipes can keep you feeling fresh the whole weekend (just dont use it on hair)

These guys are bright as fuck. Easily lights up my whole campsite. Almost a little too bright if it's on the table like eye level lol. Last year we used a big carabiner to hook it to the canopy.

I don't recommend this, I ruined a hair straighter once with one of these, it completely over heated. Another time I took one to a festival and ended up blowing a fuse in my car. Thank the festival gods I had thrown extra fuses in my car on a different occasion. Look for Conair butane powered tools on amazon... trust me...

u/Cmaclsu · 2 pointsr/ElectricForest

If you want to be the star of your campsite bring this amazing blow up couch. http://www.amazon.com/Intex-Pull-out-Sofa-Inflatable-Queen/dp/B005OHF65I

People will try to steal it. I buy a lot of festival items and this is the one thing that has gotten the most attention. Great way to meet new friends as well.

u/adamreidsmith · 1 pointr/ElectricForest

THANK YOU. I did not know that. The actual product I use (as cheesy as the title is) is Rave-On. Its a mixture of 5-htp, antioxidants, and electrolytes. I use it after single night shows and love it. But I will def look into that because that does make me nervous. Thanks for looking out for a brother!

something like this

paired with this

and you're set for like 30 bucks

or you could just bring a black 5 gal bucket, fill it up in the morning and let it sit in the sun to warm up and just dunk a washcloth in there to wipe down and use wet wipes on the naughty bits. that would cost you like 4 dollars.

or, you could skip the tent part all together and just plop that bag on the roof of your car and spray yourself down in your underwear/swimsuit or naked if that's your thing...

edit: never tried the shower trailers, heard they aren't too bad though.

u/sassysaucer · 3 pointsr/ElectricForest

I got Dubs last year and really liked them. They're comfortable and worked well for what I wanted. And dang, they're ten bucks cheaper than when I bought them last year.

u/Mr__Fantasy · 3 pointsr/ElectricForest

Any suggestions on affordable but decent quality earplugs? Does anyone recommend going to an audiologist and getting custom ones, or will cheap store bought ones do the trick?

Edit: Looks like the cheap solid foam ones muffle the sound. Anyone tried these:

u/ohmybrown · 4 pointsr/ElectricForest

these are hands down the best ear plugs I have ever owned and totally worth the money. Make it sound wayyyyy crisper and I will never go to a show without them.

Got the girlfriend this gem for lounging around at camp.

u/xxirish83x · 3 pointsr/ElectricForest

excellent post.... i already have an eno or else i would get this.

i would highly recommend these straps to go with that hammock

http://www.amazon.com/Eagles-Nest-Outfitters-Atlas-Hammock/dp/B008OXZNDO/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

u/Subaudible91 · 3 pointsr/ElectricForest

Depends on the plugs. I use a pair of these and they're pretty good at keeping things quieted down a bit.

u/Lftshrk · 2 pointsr/ElectricForest

This zero gravity chair makes a great addition to your campsite, it's insanely comfortable to lounge in. It folds up flat so it fits in your car if you have a larger vehicle, but idk about a small sedan trunk. Totally worth it if you have the space though

u/Joan_Footpussy · 1 pointr/ElectricForest

Invest in a pair of earplugs meant for live music. I use a pair of DUBS but a set of V-Modas works just as well.

NO ONE LIKES TINNITUS.

u/ryanbimmer · 2 pointsr/ElectricForest

Along these lines, bring hearing protection! Highly recommend DownBeats! I don't go to shows without them anymore

u/brokendollparts · 1 pointr/ElectricForest

I recently bought an Eno 2 with stand.

Definitely bring a stand cause tree spots get filled fast.

u/rhythmwrecker · 3 pointsr/ElectricForest

just make sure you buy the ones that come directly from amazon! They are about a couple bucks more expensive but they ship faster so it's worth it!

These things are cheap af and are perfect little ash trays. They seal up too so you don't have to smell that stale cig stench. I bring em to every fest

u/TheMarginalized · 2 pointsr/ElectricForest

Pocket Ashtray. My wife has been using one for years and swears by it. Cheap, compact, and it works.

Purchased this and it arrived two days later.

External battery charger - power packs are a must for anyone wanting juice

At camp

http://www.amazon.com/ENERGIZER-Inverter-cigarette-lighter-compatible/dp/B00ATXERNO

Been using this connected to my battery and I can shut the hood for my phone and vape.

u/hypnobioscope · 4 pointsr/ElectricForest

just bought these yesterday. [2 pack of bright ass battery lantern] (http://www.amazon.com/Etekcity-Portable-Flashlight-Batteries-Collapsible/dp/B00XM8HTIS?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00)

And I got battery powered fairy lights to go around my canopy.
I also recommend a [head lamp!] (http://www.amazon.com/Petzl-TIKKINA-Headlamp-Lumens-Black/dp/B00UAJ2CXO/ref=sr_1_19?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1464147602&sr=1-19&keywords=headlamp) they're awesome for wearing around your neck so you can quickly access light to pee in not the dark and see around the camp site. It's annoying to walk around with it on all night though, goes in peoples eyes. You can get cheaper ones, and cheap ass ones at walmart. this is a pretty decent one.

u/ShivaCobra · 8 pointsr/ElectricForest

I'm a big fan of these. I picked up a pair for myself and my gf for BassLights and NYE 360. I can attest they preserve the music while lowering the distortion and damage to your ears.

u/marijuwalrus · 1 pointr/ElectricForest

$15 Reusable earplugs so you can RAGE until youre old
